Barkha - Why don’t you do a candid episode on 26/11 covering (1) why it happened, (2) what were the lapses by Govt in handling it (3) Could it have been averted and (4) what is the role of media who are alleged to have given away vital information concerning NSG Commondos under the guise of investigative journalism. Be truthful without trying to defend your role also. It had inadvertently given away vital clues to the terrorists and their command control at Karachi. I know that wasn't your intention but you need to come out clear by admitting lapses of you and few other hyper journalistson that day. The RAW chief appeared incompetent and unaware of the situation. How could he fail to communicate with the pilot and remain uncertain about whether the hijacker had a weapon? He seemed to be merely following procedures while the pilot communicated with ATC. A commission of inquiry should be established to investigate this mishap thoroughly.
I don't understand why the fellow is either so overwhelmed or overly supportive of Pakistan, always using "Insha'Allah" in every communication.I initially had a good opinion of Mr. Vajpayee's government, but it seems they were just part of the typical indecisive Indian system.I can confidently say that if this had happened under Modi, the outcome would have been different. Mark my words, the people of India will remember and deeply appreciate Modi's courage and decisiveness after his retirement.

Our forces are smart enough to handle situations. Yes, it's true top leadership at both political & bureaucracy class hesitate a lot in taking up a decision. Either it's not taken or taken after a good amount of delay
The latest example is of the Puja Khedkar case where the DoPT took the entire 4 months to expel her from service while being an open & shut case

The security system underwent complete overhaul after 29/11. Chithamparum took over as the Home minister ( from his usual portfolios of finance and commerce, in which he used to be ultra efficient). A new security system under the lines of US interior security was developed, with quite a lot hand holding from the US government. This was a game changer. One has to know history before bluffing on ‘seeming’ correlation. The US security system after the 9/11 was quite proactive - this was documented by scholar like Amitava Kumar. Indian security system after 29/11 is modelled on this.

Barkha is doing back to back programs on this ic814 issue…. Without watching the series…. I find that strange… aren’t you supposed to study the subject before you discuss it …. I also find it strange that the survivors who witnessed everything… aren’t being called … or why nobody wants to say what the truth was…!!

I think to protect one highly connected officer (tomar)the whole IPS ,IAS lobby played with innocent people in the flight and gave away easy chances like stopping the flight from taking off in Amritsar and in-fact they exchanged a dreaded terrorist who came back and wreak havoc in india and still dng it
Its just the IPS-IAS lobby and all the rulers bend for this lobby

The releases of dreaded terrorist as deal always puzzling my mind.
Whether the civilians life is more precious than our security forces?
Being a civilian I wonder when it come to sacrificing for your nation seems it’s only for citizens who joined security forces!!!
Barkha rightly pointed out we’re afraid about the casualties that time and there after these terrorists gave us more casualties than then would have.
I personally consider the decision of our government and not taking timely action was weak and lethargic systems. Mr. Dullat looks me a man at job as kk Menon was in 1962 China war

    Bharkha ji,
Hijacking of IC814 in 1999 & kargil war reflected the failure of intelligence & security system at that time. The political indecisiveness and immaturity was the root cause. Not stopping, storming the plane at Amritsar & release of big terrorists was a damaging political decision. Had it been taken by Congress or other government, the RSS and BJP would have made it a very big and long lasting issue like kashmir.

The role of Punjab CM was deplorable. Such decisions should entirely be with the professionals of NSG who should take over the command of such emergencies.
