      And here I thought someone was selling THE pace car from the 78 race. Only to find out they made thousands of them just like it. Pftttt

    I own the Silver Edition L82. Best looking C3 Corvettes. In my opinion.

    One of these with less than 50 miles on the clock sat on the showroom floor of Walter Jackson Cheverolet in Ringgold GA from 1978 until April 27th 2011. When an EF4 tornado ripped through the town of Ringgold destroying Walter Jackson's showroom, most of his dealership and the 78 Corvette Indy Pace Car.. I believe it was a gift from Walter to his son Danny as a graduation present and Danny just drove it a handful of times and left it sitting on the showroom floor. I seen it once about 3 years after the tornado hit and the dealership had been rebuilt when i took my Camaro in for service.. That corvette was mangled, and i would imagine still is, because 3 years after it hadn't been touched

      Crazy story George! Thanks for sharing... Man that would have been worth some money with 50 miles on it!

      @@TheSpeedTraveler My pleasure.. Danny took over after his father Walter passed away & he's a really good guy that likes to talk to and get feedback from all of his customers, whether they are buying a Cruze or a Corvette and you can't say that about a lot of car dealership owners

    I test drive one of those back in 1985. I ended up buying an Indy Fiero instead. I’ve always been a Pontiac guy.

    How much are these cars worth as i have one of them and i dont know if maybe i should sell it?

    • @TheSpeedTraveler
      @TheSpeedTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chimi - depends on the mileage - most of these are low miles because people bought them and put them in garages. I would say for the automatic version $20K to $40K - probably an additional $5K for the manual version as there weren't many built.

    Beautyful car! I have question - why Corvette was (as we know) gm fastest car did not get a turbo in those days? And is that true that GNX Turbo 3.8 skipped because it was faster than Corvette?

    • @TheSpeedTraveler
      @TheSpeedTraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question. John Greenwood (who was the Corvette racing guy in the 1970s) experimented with turbocharging and even offered a few street version turbo Corvettes, the Greenwood Sebring GT in 1975 and the Turbo GT in 1978. I don't know why GM didn't go down this road with the Corvette in the late 1970s as you bring up they were working on a turbocharged Buick... There is a good Car and Driver story about Ken Baker, the GM engineer who developed the Buick Grand National which became the GNX. The first version of the turbo Grand National came out in 1978 with 165 hp, but in 1984 the GNX came out according to the article. We should do a story on the GNX, great car and thanks for the idea!

    Wow how did you get ahold of a car from EVS here on Wisconsin? I saw the rear plate at the 4:42 point on the video. Is that Ernie Jr"s car i think i saw at his dealership near Plymouth WI?

      Hi Dick!
      Thanks for the comment! Yes - we bought the car from EVS in Wisconsin... I don't know who owned it but if you do - please let us know! It only has 5500 miles on it so someone clearly babied the car. Thx

      @TheSpeedTraveler I don't know who EVS got the car from. When I said Ernie Jr. I was referring to the E in EVS. But now that I think of it I think the dealers name was Eric. His Dad, the original "EVS" was Ernie. My Dad bought a 78 Corvette pace car from the dealer in Campbellsport, WI when I was 17 and took it to Florida. He sold it with probably less than 50 miles on it. I wish I could find that car.....

    If you're looking for something old and over-rated to spend your money on for exorbitant car parts, you found it here in the 1978 PC.

    SO THIS IS THE ONLY MODEL OF CORVETTE WORTH HAVING AFTER 1973 . EVEN 1973 LOOK WEIRD WITH THOSE SIDE VENTS ...I REALLY DON'T LIKE THE TAIL PANELS OF VETTES AFTER 1973 . BUT THIS CAR WITH THE REAR SPOILER MANAGES TO LOOK COOL WITH THE PAINT SCHEME AND THE HOOD ...THESE ARE STILL VERY WEAKEN POSER CARS IN REGARDS TO PERFORMANCE ...BUT THEY LOOK GOOD AND THE 350 THEY CAME WITH IS AT LEAST A PLATFORM FOR PERFORMANCE I GUESS ...WITH A NEW CAM, RODS, LIFTERS, SPRINGS, MANIFOLD, HEADERS, AND HEADS AND CARB CHANGE YOU COULD GO FAST ...LOL .SO YEAH JUST KEEP STOCK , KEEP ITS VALUE AND LOOK FAST ...TO ME THESE WOULD BE WORTH THE UPGRADES BUT NOT IN THE EYES OF THE CAR COLLECTOR WORLD ...
