  • On the Nebraska plains, Mark Peterson relies on the spot-and-stalk method with his new Mathews Lift bow to pursue bison, known for their keen sense of smell and cautious demeanor. With the wind as a crucial consideration, he stealthily approaches these wary animals, navigating through the hills to get close enough for a shot. Hunts like these help pay for conservation efforts to keep the bison population at a stable number.

    Fantastic animal, Congrats Mark. Your adrenaline must've been pumping, although you looked calm.

      Is there still a public land in the States where you can legally hunt 🦬 bison?

    • @almanaylor9117

      @@chocothycflowerio6122yes, Utah has two/three (depending on your definition of free range) free range, public land herds. Arizona has one, and Wyoming has one or two. All are incredibly low draw odds and the last two have very low success as you can only shoot one that leaves the National Parks. Alaska has a few opportunities for public land bison.

      I had similar sentiments and used to dream of drawing a public land Bison tag, that will never happen. Unless the federal gov. decides to buy vast swathes of prairie, ranch is the only real option. Watch videos of public land bison hunts, they’re really not skittish animals.

    Are you going to get him mounted with the ear tag left in?

    That’s an exit hole. When you punch them behind the ear, it turns and goes there. They are all over Montana like that.

    What a great hunt! Have you ever got the tag for elk in Kentucky with the reintroduced population there that's like 13k plus now? Saw it on meateater with steve rinella that seems like a great hunt to do if you're lucky enough as well. Love the channel and the adventures you share!

      Thank you! Yes, I have been fortunate to hunt elk in Kentucky. In 2014, I was able to take a great bull. This was before I was doing content on digital/TH-cam. I may have to go back and dust this one out of the archives. Thanks for watching!

    Its cute how many people don't know what, free range actually means. He's using the term correctly. Free range doesn't mean wild. It's an agricultural term that means, keeping livestock in natural conditions (i.e. outside) and giving them the freedom of movement.

    Ranch and free range don’t go together, if there are fences it’s not free range no matter the size, but still watching

      You can tell these buffalo get fed every other day the way they don’t spook and when they do they just run 100 yards 😂

      @@braydenwillis4733 no Bison spook. Yellowstone Bison are one of the purest strain wild bison left in North America. They are dumber than a box of rocks.

      I think I know what you mean… but because there’s no unfenced areas in this country anymore, there must be no free range game anymore? You said “if there’s fences it’s not free range no matter the size.” Do you mean just for the Buffalo or deer and elk too?

    • @MrNatty13
      @MrNatty13 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I guess my point is this - even public land and parks like Yellowstone have an exterior border. So in regards to your statement about it not being free range as long as fences are involved “no matter the size”, all lands in this country fall out of what you call “free range.”

    • @rosshill2565
      @rosshill2565 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MrNatty13 Nevada has lots of free-range land. What fences we do have are short and do not hold any animals in. I think the big difference is if the fence is large enough to keep the animals from leaving, then that is not free Range.
