Exactly! I have to agree that, despite the seeming seriousness of much of his music (not a bad thing, of course), the man is also funny as hell, too! Okay... I thought I’d be the only one who finds the video a little comical. Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate this video. And I like the song. I’ve been a huge JM fan since the start. It really is genius. I just wonder how many people will really see that.
@@ChronosSyros yep I picked up on that too. Everything from the hair to the sets to the exaggerated emotions…all intentionally corny. I’d love to see the behind the scenes. I bet there was so much laughing and bloopers on trying to act sooooo 80s.

The songwriting in "Shot in the Dark" is so raw and vulnerable it's almost painful. I genuinely cannot believe the courage he has to put himself out there in such way. The whole record is the best thing that's happened since the pandemic and I hope he knows that. It made me scream "I LOVE MUSIC" by myself, in a silent house, past midnight, so I guess that aggressive marketing was right, after all. Hats off to JM's marketing team, by the way. You all deserve the world. And, Johnny - you made me feel like a 13-year-old staying up late for new music. I haven't had that level of excitement in almost ten years. "Sob Rock" is "make me feel happy to be alive" rock. Thank you.

GEEZ... how I needed a whole new album to bring back 80s vibes these days. Thank you, John Mayer. The whole album makes complete sense. It's just pure gold. Okay... I thought I’d be the only one who finds the video a little comical.
Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate this video. And I like the song. I’ve been a huge JM fan since the start.
It really is genius.
I just wonder how many people will really see that.
I thought he might be kinda serious until 2:30 when he releases the white dove like he’s in a freakin John Woo movie.
He made the best 80’s Soundtrack complete with the cheezy cliche video,.. done with perfection so it actualy works awesome
@@ChronosSyros yep I picked up on that too. Everything from the hair to the sets to the exaggerated emotions…all intentionally corny.
I’d love to see the behind the scenes. I bet there was so much laughing and bloopers on trying to act sooooo 80s.
@@angelahorn7013 He did mention that the record is kind of his idea of a shitpost, so this checks out haha
This song is so dreamy. I like it a lot. I'm not really familiar with his works but Sob Rock has definitely turn me into his fan. Currently exploring more of his music.
Please do explore. You'll love it all.
Sit back and enjoy. All of his facets are a delight.
He always releases an album when the world needs him the most.
‘I’ve loved 7 other women and they all were you’
My goodness. So freakin good.
His voice is angelic
Not the best epithet in my opinion if you remember someone like Jeff Buckley existed!
th-cam.com/video/HSG7ew3ASXg/w-d-xo.html
Again.
I never really used to have any opinion about many of his songs but I bought this album, I love it, no haters..............
Oh shit you're that guy who does all those piano covers! Used to watch your videos like crazy when I was 12.
People not loving this just don't get it! It's not only 80's sound but every visual you're seeing is 80's! This guy is freaking amazing! GOLDEN!!!!!!!!!
Ya! Anyone from 70’s 80’s would be blown away with how much he captured!
The song goes into the early 1990's.
@@cabalenproductions6480Yes!
This is the best version of 'Time After Time' I've ever heard ! 🤪
I never expected to laugh that hard. The dove flying out of his hand had me rolling. This is absolutely brilliant. I can’t wait for the rest of this album.
Agreed, the 80's drama is so extreme it's hilarious but also the music is so good. Stoked for the album
The dove was ridiculous
I lost my shit at the dove part too 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My thoughts it's that he exaggerated on purpose. Almost like a love letter to the cheesy MTV era aesthetics, but the music is so good that it works!
Seriously. So hysterical and a perfect take on videos back in the day.
“Is the gate code still your birthday?” Love that specificity.
I'm glad you posted this comment because I was trying to figure out that lyric!
It sounds like something Jen Aniston would do. To be honest.
KATY perry
❤❤❤...ich liebe deine Stimme und die Art wie du spielst und bist.
Wünsche dir alles Gute..❤❤❤
I could not stop laughing. This is SO 80's. Absolutely died at the dove. Bravo John
Or Johnny Bravo?
Same!
Geeez its the best feeling going to sleep knowing the album is gonna be live in the morning
It’s even a better feeling going to sleep after listening to the album ‘cause I live in India😁
Ahhh
Have fun:)
He just went full commercial , not the john mayer i used to listen back in 2010.
@@jager5796 ... My guy, you ever heard of this little song called Your Body is a Wonderland?
Good Lord. This is more 80s then the 80s ever were.

He brought me back to my childhood... Oh, the 80’s, so many great memories...! Thank you, John! 🥰✨
Nobody:
Literally nobody:
John: releases the dove.
2:29
Lolol
I literally LAUGHED OUT LOUD. So 80's. So cheesy. But also SO GOOD.
Too classic! 🤣🤣🤣
He really went there 😂
The songwriting in "Shot in the Dark" is so raw and vulnerable it's almost painful. Thank you.
Perfectly put!
🤨
It's like the (Storytellers) ✍ When the song writer puts his heart in his art and then the music follows along in his song to make the sound 👏 the ( Rhapsody) of Love is around 😍 That's when it makes it easier for the performer music entertainer to take his grounds👍❤👏👀
What does he mean by 'shot in the dark'?
Is it another song about sex?
@@markopetrov511 😃😆🤣 lmao..You think ?
Absolute filthy dance moves Bro! Love it!
Yes and yes! Finally!
Haha! I found some of his moves good others not so much, but not filthy. Hilarious comment anyway.
Haha.. just John being John!!
@@engineerMusician227 lol hes twisted in a good way
His dance moves looked like Arthur Fleck from the Jocker!
Fave line “I want you in the worst way is the gate code still your birthday “❤😂
I remember this song was playing during my high school prom. I can’t believe it has been almost 25 years since I last listened to this song! Such a classic.
Ummm you know this is a new song right?
@@carlomoran6320 he’s kidding man 😅
@Jo Navz Shit my bad
@@carlomoran6320 Glad you got it, my man!
John really just released a full album of "This is only our second date but I've got a really good feeling about this" vibe songs
Hahaha underrated comment 😂
This is a funny comment, however, I think it’s a full album of songs about regret, as it relates to past loves.
"I've loved 7 other women and they all were you"
That's deep af
Sounds like repeating cycles to me...
what did yall interpret it as?
@@akshayarun1351 I see it as he never got over one specific person so he dated other individuals that reminded him of that person.
Maybe he lived 7 lifetimes before and it was her in every lifetime ..like his song (Lifeline) 🕊👀
Well...
One of my favorite John Mayer songs now. And my list was already so long
I physically can’t stop listening to this song.
I deeply appreciate you for you for being a fan. It gives me so much joy that I am able to put smiles on the faces and heart of many.🤗
john looks like that 80s rock artist that everyone wanted to be
Actually, more like 80s pop-artist.
What definitely doesn't make it worse
Yeah, 80s pop music was the best
Rando: “John, I bet you won’t make a goofy 80’s themed song”
John: “say no more fam”
…one album later…
Bless John Mayer for showing how great real music sounds.
I have a feeling John did the choreography for Joaquin on ‘Joker’.
Bro I just spit my drink out reading this comment.
th-cam.com/video/Cmp1R7frXWw/w-d-xo.html
Which was both done by John mellancamp
Joaquin Phoenix's Joker laugh sounds like John Mayer's laugh.
I've never seen him dance at all, but I wouldn't put that past him 😆
Man's 45 years old looking like a 25 year old in 2021 but acting like it's 1985. I see what you doing John, genius move to unbound his music with time constraints.
John’s 43
For me, this is his best song in the album.
Agreed! Close second is all i want is to be with you
I don't think so....
completely agree
agree
When JOHN MAYER starts dancing at the end..I felt them positive vibes....my dude knows he is all that and some...love the vibes bro
"i've loved seven other women and they all were you" ahhh so you met her variants, John?
wait so this song is about miss corona 😭
or a Loki reference.
Alligator Taylor swift
I understood that reference.
@@elainegrace5525 who’s miss corona
John is so fucking with everyone. Is this the work of a genius or a madman? No matter... Release the dove. Answer the neon phone. Look over your leather clad shoulder. Bang on the wall in time. Dance like Billy Squire in a pink shirt...They'll love it.
I vote Genius. The world needs more 80's.
Release the dove 🤣
Love the ‘release that dove’… 🤟🏼😂
Its like in 1990 we took a long detour through grunge, nu metal, post-punk etc only to arrive back with music we actually really want to hear again.
This whole look/vibe is giving sooo much Continuum. The long hair really does it. Like this man does not age! A literal genius.
80s music at its finest ♥️
I was born in 1989 and my parents raised me surrounded by 80's music (and previous decades too). Actually I owe them my broad taste in music. I am very open to this music era but... GEEZ... how I needed a whole new album to bring back 80s vibes these days. Thank you, John Mayer. The whole album makes complete sense. It's just pure gold. I'm from Argentina and I just finished listening to it through and through and it makes me want to hit the road, more specifically RN40 (National route 40), and play it forever on loop at sunset. Thank you for this amazing masterpiece❤.
If you still want that 80s vibe, check out the midnight, timecop1983, fm84, Ollie wride. :)

Didn't see this coming. Sob Rock is full of surprises
The dancing was on point with the 80’s. I love the self deprecating humor
Where is he filming all these videos? Does a parallel 1980's universe exist that he visits? It must be were he is writing and recording these songs. I'm going to buy this album on cassette tomorrow morning with my allowance.
You mean this song was not recorded in the 80's?
Lol if you make a new comment that is just that last line of this post it'll get a thousand likes.
I kicked a date out of my apartment tonight and was completely honest in saying “I need to listen to the new Mayer Album on Spotify.” She laughed so hard I almost got mad. Not even a joke. This album is incredible!
My respect for you went ^^^^^^

The hell with her, I bet she likes Taylor Swift. 😆
This is the most generic boring sounding trash he’s ever released. The whole nostalgia 80s thing is cool and all but this album ain’t it.
The ultimate John Mayer performance: music and comedy at its best
I play random lists from youtube when I am working and John Mayer often comes up because I listen to some of his songs, lately, I have been getting to know his other songs too and whenever I hear a nice song I look up the date and I often find that the song was published 5, 6, 7 years ago and I get a little sad that I missed it all that time, but this is a very new song and I am here to just hay I am happy that I am going to grow older with this song.
John Mayer is the best male singer alive today
tomorrow and forever
The video is better than I could've ever imagined.
❤❤❤
Only JM has the audacity to release this video. Damn, what moves, what nostalgic MTV credit, what 80s cheesy shots. I believe in JM supremacy.
I remember my parents playing this 35 years back damn times sure passes fast good old memories ❤️

OMG... This made me realize how much I've missed these artsy music videos!!
Way back in the 80s and 90s, we just took them for granted...
Please carry on, Mr. Mayer!!
Yes what a cool way for John Mayer to mark his 20 years in music. I remember this type of stuff in soft rock in the early 1990's. 1990-1993.
