- The Audi TTRS is one of our favorite modern Audi's, and not appreciated enough, in our opinion. 034 Motorsport has been tuning Audi's for 10 years, and their new Hybrid Turbo system is, shall we say, quite effective!

@@markdafunky1 what do you think is reasonable to pay? There’s hardly any out there but prices range from low 20s to high 30s for this gen... anything to look out for on a PPI??
@@ImAHelicopterItIsSir I picked mine up for about $32k with 65k miles this past summer. I’ve seen some with less miles for the same price, but they go quick. As for issues, just make sure it goes into gear fine since the synchros can be a weak point. Also see if the shocks are leaking any fluid, they’re not cheap to replace. Otherwise, it’s a pretty stout car.
That inline 5 sound tho, Legendary Audi !
034 motorsport is very respectable.
They offer out of the box tuning packs for any audi or vw performance engine. The power upgrades are ridiculous!

talking about the 90's Audis the guy says "we made 1000hp out of a 2.3 or 2.5" and Matt doesn't even notice what he just said.. THAT'S INSANE! 1000hp out of a tiny little engine.

Laszlo Tallai thanks for the reply :P not my cup of tea it just amazes me how much power you guys can make from such tiny engine. That one in that vid is just annoying sounding to me, too diesel like. I love late model Audis, love that v8 but I'm still an American v8 kind of guy, just like I prefer a twin when it comes to motorcycles.. That being said, I'd still love to build a super high horsepower v8 diesel and put it in an old chevy or something.
+OtisENGINEuity 2.3 -2.5 isn't exactly "tiny". Sure, it is compared to a hemi or an LS etc. But in Europe, to us, 1.0 -1.2 is small. Shit, my Toyota Starlet was a 1.3 turbo and that ran 133bhp stock and 0-60 in 6.9s. 2.0 engines over here are notorious for making big power.

+OtisENGINEuity haha yes I did. I actually started going into that specifically but thought my comment was getting too long, so I deleted it. Plenty of turbocharged 2-2.5 Ltr cars make 500-1000hp with a good thorough build. You're looking at $$$$s tho.

Any chance you can find a Golf 7R with a TTE450 turbo upgrade (very similar to the one in this TTRS)? They've been clocked at 3.2s 0-62...
AstroFantastica That's like a 4k+ upgrade right? $700 USD flash gets you 0-60 3.7s, you can check it out on my channel.. pretty amazing imo

AstroFantastica Dang.. 3.2s is just beastly. And while I've heard of turbo failures in a lot of stage 2 R's and GTI's, I haven't really heard much in the way of stage 1 yet.. I figured its pay to play.. and hoping I don't have to pay *fingers crossed*
zed4me The issue is not with the tunes, there was a batch of turbos on the release model which were prone to failure (even without a tune). I believe it was the alloy bushings in the turbo that were the point of failure, VW now uses a ceramic composite for those bushings in current models.
AstroFantastica I believe these were the ROW models, the US model which didn't arrive to market until 2015 (vs 2014 for ROW) and I haven't read much in the way of turbo failures here even for the pre-order models which is what I have.

Laszlo and the guys at 034 are great. Been to a few of their open houses/dyno days and my bro gets all of his work done on his 25th anniversary gti by them. Definitely recommended if you're looking Audi/VW specialists in the Bay.

For those of you who were keeping track of the Farah Giggles-o-meter, my man clearly had a good time behind the wheel of that TT-RS.. And I'm glad 034Motorsport played a part in making it happen. In the 530Hp Dinan BMW M4 video, Matt said he was happy when the tuning company didn't send a representative with him and just dropped off the car.
Well a counter argument to having the representative with you on runs like this is the technical details.
Or in other words, we can get a lot more interesting details as you ask the right questions.
Because I seriously doubt Matt would take apart the turbo apart and measure the impeller of it to tell us what they had done. :D
I like both, and having Laszlo here isn't because of a lack of confidence in the product it's because he came from way far away to bring me the car

034 is a very good company, they play to the strengths of the base car and add to the weak points rather than just add power and hope for the best like many others seem to do

That first gear pull at 8:38 is why the TTRS is such a weapon. Love it.
Just picked up a 2012 TTRS, thanks for the video, I was looking for a great modded car reviews for this platform. Crazy that 7 years later and the TTRS are back to low-mid 40s, especially with 40-80k miles. It will be interesting to see how their value holds in the future, the US ones are rare enough.

TGAT86 Well both these cars are fast as fuck, but I changed my exterior camera to a GoPro 4 Black, from a GoPro 3 silver, so I think the camera just processes 60 FPS in a less "artificial" looking way. Before, it really slowed everything down. Now it seems about right.
TheSmokingTire There's a huge difference in the way the camera perceives anything outside the center area. I'm watching those mountains really fly by fast. It's awesome to see. XD

I have an 04 1.8 tt that' I tuned to be the same as this one. Boosting at 22-24 trimmed fins I still ripe it every other day
I really like the One Take videos. Lots of fun to watch. One thing that I think would make them better would be a MPH and G force indicator.

holy shit talk about a killer road car. The mid range on that looks immense! And the solid chassis and Quattro grip. If I won the lottery I'd skip over the R8 and get one of these bad boys. Love the noise so much.

Hey Matt, can you make a video going over all the roads you like to drive, and your favorites from even around the world? I would enjoy it and I think others would too. Love the videos, keep doing what your doing.
I don't think Matt knows just how fast TT-RS's are stock. A STOCK TT-RS is almost dead on with a brand new F80 M3. At the time the TT-RS was out, with the E92 M3, it was quicker.
Of course with 540hp it will walk an M3. It will walk just about anything this side of a supercar.
The M3 has never been about pure speed. While the stock TTRS is as fast as a stock M3, the M3 is better in every other way.

I m not a big VW or Audi fan, but i have to admit Audi is the only company that can make a 5 cylinder sound good. I still like the sound from the original rally Quattros from the mid to late 80's best. Defiantly worth you tubing Audi rally Quattro sounds and listening.

I use to think the same way, but then I test drove and bought a MK7 GTI. I have never enjoyed a car more than my GTI, its just such a fun and great all around package.

The audi tt is what you get when an audi R8 and a volkswagen turbo beetle have a baby.
I bought a set of Sumi HTR Z III XL's for my high hp 300zx TT planning on just getting some cheap tires to hoon around on and frankly burn right off. They ended up being excellent tires, and I was actually disappointed about how grippy they were! I imagine them being excellent for a high hp daily driver application. They're a little less than 1/2 of the price of the Conti's I usually buy, definitely a good value.
You have got to try out the IROZ Motorsports car. 1000hp daily driver RS3. These guys, 034 included just keep making more and more power. I think IROZ is over 700whp with a 68mm custom hybrid turbo and his porting to help flow and power pre boost. Absolutely insane for little things
IROZ has a kit capable of over 1,000 HP now with the right gas.
