I'm a machinist by trade but I still find watching this channel cathartic. Today I spent 8 hours making a specialized bolt for a nuclear power plant. The tightest tolerance was in tenths and it had a parabolic contour for a metal on metal seal. I respect the breadth of Curtis's skillset. I could probably compete on the machining end but I'd be lost with the various types of welding he managed to do so they look easy.
My mind is beginning to boggle from the description of that bolt for a nuclear power station! With some Aussie politicians talking about nuclear power stations and the description of that bolt, it has got me worried that Australia may no longer have enough high end engineering tradespeople to build and maintain said power stations. There was an article on ABC a few years ago that Australia is going to need something like 30,000 welders to be able to support the new renewable energy industry. I have a real problem with that figure as we had zero boys in our Design Technology classes in years 10, 11 and 12 this year. Not enough boys chose the subject and they have access to a terrific DT facility in the Senior School. Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
CEE. I would wager that you never expected this channel to become so popular with such a global audience. 781k, and we see people commenting from all over the globe! (Missouri, USA here) Honestly what is so compelling is the fact that you made something of very high value using core components saving more than half the cost of OEM. The videography is equal to a Science Channel “How It’s Made,” especially the high speed stuff that shows the crucial details when slowed down, Homey, and of course chips to go with the welding. I initially started watching due to my own son learning welding, and I wanted to have the understanding to discuss what he is doing with a better understanding. Clearly, welding is just a gateway to much higher fabrication and repair skills. I’m sure I’m joined by thousands of others who wait on Friday morning every week for their “fix” of the master @ work. Thanks both for sharing just a small portion of your lives with us.
Hey John! Thanks for noticing the value focus - love that you dig the "Science Channel" vibe with the slow-mo close-ups (and Homey & chips!). Knowing thousands tune in Fridays is incredibly motivating. We appreciate you sharing your time too!

We don’t have anything like them in Canada but your visiting Butcher Birds really do have a beautiful and musical call. I understand why you like them.
Greetings from Boise, Idaho! I enjoy listening to the many sounds in the shop as the work progresses. The "Ka-chunk" of the interrupted cut gradually merges into a gentle hiss. And "George" and " Gracie" singing a loud cheerleader duet added to the symphony of shop sounds. However, the most gratifying sound is the "click" at the end when you use the tape machine to tie the job to the pallet. This signifies another great job by Michelangelo and Company! Well done!
Love this channel! Where else can you you watch a top-notch, honest machinist work that seems to enjoy everything about what he's doing - even the tough stuff. The outtakes at the end and the breaks showing the "wildlife" are priceless! Change nothing! This formula is working!

We don’t have anything like them in Canada but your visiting Butcher Birds really do have a beautiful and musical call. I understand why you like them.
Another great video from CEE thank you Kurtis, Karen and Homey for bringing us along...
Great slo motion shots of the initial interrupted cut! The strength of those inserts are absolutely amazing! Another great video! Thanks!
*Cutting Edge Engineering Australia* Hay guys always a pleasure to see another video, thank-you for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Glad you enjoyed it
Greetings from Boise, Idaho! Well done!
Always a bang up job. Said it before, I'll say it again. Doesn't mess around this bloke.
Love this channel! Where else can you you watch a top-notch, honest machinist work that seems to enjoy everything about what he's doing - even the tough stuff. The outtakes at the end and the breaks showing the "wildlife" are priceless! Change nothing! This formula is working!
Hey mate thanks for the great feedback and taking time to leave a comment we appreciate it!
Yes ! Friday with CCE has begun. Hello and good morning everyone from Munford, Tennessee, USA.
Been quite a few months since I have visited your channel, I am sorry about that you just get full of watching perfection in motion.
The work you preform is just that, perfect. And is just as exciting to watch as the first time!
Gladd everyone is fine and I hope in good health.
Good One on Ya.
Sincerely R Serr
I have been watching you channel for 2 years now. If I had my time again I would seriously consider becomming a machinest and doing the sorts of repairs you do. Looks like interesting and rewarding work. Love your work.
It is such a pleasure to watch an old school machinist at work.
Nice one. And credits at the end...clearly a pro operation! Thanks guys!
Karen, love your filming when you’re shocked is the best. Curtis I do woodworking, I have to watch your videos every Friday your detail in explaining what you’re doing is great. I really enjoyed seeing the actual picture of the part from the OEM today in this video.
Yeaaaaaa!!! Thank you both!
Best regards,
Alan Tomlinson
You're welcome Alan!
Karen, love how you left the Birds singing and talking in the video......
such fine friends you have visiting your shop
Love watching Kirtis doing what he loves, we also enjoy Homeless playing and your birds visiting.
Thanks for watching!
It’s Trunnion Time 😎 Absolutely killer work. My eyes widened when I saw the new barrel. Looks amazing
Always an absolute treat! Cheers!
Nice job once again, that first cut was a bit scary but you don it with no drama.
Every video is deferent from the other and always exciting thanks for the hard work 👍 👌
6:01 the sound of the first cut on the lathe would make a really good techno song^^
you even know the bpm, because he said, the lathes spinning at 145 rpm...
the nice thing about using coolant that goes through the boring bar is that it keeps it cool when doing lots of cutting
AND THEY ARE BACK!!! YEAH!!! FRIDAY POWER!!! ❤
Nice job on the trunnion, I expected in internal chamfer to get the weld deeper. Always interested to see you true things up after welding. Hope you get some crane time soon. Have a good weekend, all.
Damn Kurtis being the professional, you make it look easy ,your skill set 110%.
So I'm not a stranger to a cutting torch. I've used track torches to cut up to 1/2 banana plate and an orbital pipe cutter but it still blows my mind how clean of a cut you can actually get through 160mm of steel with a torch.
Great video. I find this sort of stuff to be very interesting. You do a great job of not making it too boring (pun intended) and making it too glib. Thanks!
Shout out to all of the old pallets out there who have carried 1000's of loads and are still kicking on
Wow, Karen… you truly have an eye for superb editing. Bravo!
Thank you! 😊
This is now my favourite time of the week, waiting for the next CEE video to drop!
Keep up the good work guys!!
thanks for watching mate we appreciate the support
Here for the machining but really enjoy Homey and the birds. Thanks for sharing these videos.
The interrupted cut makes for a sick beat! 🎧
Sample it and loop it :D
This shorter format occasionally is amazing to see. Doesn't need to be super detailed every time great little mix up. Well-done cee team
