@@CharliesMaidenCovers absolutely. yellow colorant categorically is a lot thinner and spreads out far less opaque than other colorants. I'd highly recommend, if at all possible, using a traditional paint sprayer and using a tinted primer. hardware stores like home depot and lowe's have primers that can have colorant added to them to assist with color transitions, so getting a yellow primer will help immensely not just in getting the new color down but getting it down EVENLY.
To avoid droplets and uneven spraying, shake it like there is no tomorrow, and then do a few short burst away from your target to prime the nozzle, then while painting do short fast burst taking care not to overlay the paint in each pass to avoid unnecessary build up. Adam Savage has a good display technique and explanation on some of his one day build videos.
not to mention that keeping your finger away from the hole where the paint is coming out of helps too if you're not careful, paint droplets build up on your finger, and then that gets sprayed on your object
I'd mask off the inner parts as the paint will add thickness to the parts and your hardware and pcb may not fit as well once you put it back together. Also going to a graffiti supply shop is your best bet for paint with high uv rating to prevent fading, and you can get paint with a nice matt finish that you won't need to clear coat. Try Montana Black. The price is the pretty much the same as the crappy stuff from the hardware store. All paint will need a few days for the solvent to evaporate out completely and for the paint to cure to full hardness. Best to not bring it into the house but leave somewhere like a garage. And you should ALWAYS wear respiratory protection.
Recently into spray painting peripherals, I find this helpful and it has improved my painting skill. My custom mouse will look better after a little sanding (like you did with the droplets). I had a thick clear coat on a border because of the low light in the evening.
Great painting trip is to also put some kind off plastic box or something over the painted thing so random dust and particles don't stick to the surface
A month ago I spray painted my Royal Kludge RK987 in dark blue to fit a set of keycaps I had for a while (OEM profile blue gradient doubleshot pbt keycaps from Massdrop) to give to my brother to replace his old mech (has some old Steelseries with scratchy mx blacks, not to say that the RK branded reds are much better but he does like them better). Went flawlessly, looks incredible, I also picked up some dark blue aluminum feet from kprepublic which work great! Awesome vid!
An "old mate" told me to do a quick spray holding the can upside down after use to help clear the nozel which avoids them spitting globs out on the next coat.
Great video and builds. I would like to say that it is possible to spray too light of a coat. Ideally, each coat should have enough coverage so that the droplets all connect together before they dry. This allows them to form a flat, continuous film over the surface because of surface tension. Otherwise you can start to get droplets drying on top of previously dried ones which makes a bumpy texture, unless that's what you're going for.
I think the texture comes from the way it was sprayed. (Fast and from far) You usually need wet/heavy coats to actually get a smooth finish especially with clear coat

Put tape over the top of the keycap and using an exacto knife, trace the outer borders of the legends and remove the tape that isn't covering the legend. After putting primer and color paint, remove the tape over the legend and then apply clear coat.

You could reduce the number of coats by first painting on some white primer.
Actually most hardware store paints are really bad so i would use the "graffiti"" proffesional" from montana molotow flame
so thats why I needed 2 cans to spray paint my bass guitar to yellow... and other colors only 1 can was enough

Record a couple hours of the sounds that just happen in your back yard and put it out as an ASMR video. I would fall asleep to that every night.
Spray closer to the keyboard. if you spray that far away the paint will have half dried when it hits the surface, creating a gritty texture.
