  • Did you know that the Independent Order of Odd Fellows started in Baltimore in 1819? In 1891, they built the Romanesque Odd Fellows Hall at the corner of Cathedral and Saratoga. Please enjoy today’s video and we’ll see you next week!
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Twice a week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and website. For more information or to become a member of Baltimore Heritage, check out: baltimoreherit...

My Great Grandparents were Odd Fellows, buried in PA Someone with my last name wrote the book on the subject.
I'm ODD too, don't fit in to today's society of created thought - that makes us different!
History is something that should never be forgotten! Thanks for keeping it alive :)

I am a former odd fellow ( Ellicott City Lodge ) thank you for getting the history right and out to the public. Unfortunately service orders like the Odd Fellows are suffering from a decline in membership.

The monument on Broadway is a very cool place to relax and chill on a beautiful spring day.

I used to walk by that building all the time! I thought it was an old police station, like the building on Keswick in Hampden. Nice to know where it came from.

When I was very young, I went to school and church at St. Alphonsus on Saratoga and remember the USO located in that building. Happy to see it mentioned in this piece.

Do you know what’s interesting I work at a museum in New Orleans and they did an exhibit on this exact order, and I saw the caption Baltimore written into one of the exhibits so when I come back home, I plan to at least take some pictures of that corner stone
