  • Parker International 505, restored and ready to go back on the water. From 1973, this black and tan boat is in immaculate condition and fully fitted from that day (with a few modern extras).

    One of the coolest boats ever made. Should have been an Olympic class. Wish I was young enough to still sail one... Beautiful job on your restoration. Was never a huge fan of the spin launcher on the bow but they do work.

    I raced 505's back in the day, ultimate racing dingy of that time period!!!

    Great work and I like my sailboats, but that's just too many friggin' ropes to manage. There has to be a simpler way.

    Did they have aluminium masts in 1973?

      Not easy that one, many of these boats were quite differently set-up, it depends on the level of restoration, is it structural or more just a fit out?

    Does anyone know the purpose of that scoop in the bow? . . . I don't think it is an anchor locker. Maybe it is. I have never seen that.

      The hole in the bow is the exit for the spinnaker which is launched from the chute under the deck. I had 7 years of racing these glorious boats obsessively in the late 70s into mid 80s. This is a beautiful restoration. The magnificence of the boat is the ability to adjust everything for speed...so don't be concerned about all the lines, just learn how to use them and find some good wind for the ride of your life!

    I plan to restore an almost identical boat. Can you advise or direct me to information about how the centreboard case is attached to the hull? The case sides need repair / replacement. Thanks!

    Looks amazing! My family is also restoring a 505, we're currently improving the shell of the boat, however, are confused about the rigging of it. Could you please make a video explaining the rope work, I'm sure it would help out a lot of people. Thanks

      I have a series of photos, that I can upload. Start with the basic elements, like the mast around the centerboard casing, basically rig, the boat (with what you have) and use a spare sheet to start, ensure each side of the boat allows for adjustments. You may find many methods, most of this boat is set to reduce as much "rope" as possible and we use tension wheels (for the forestay) as it has more purchase and less rope. There are no real plans left that I can share.

      @@mauwi1997 I have sailed 420s before and am aware of the basic rig (main + adjustments, and jib), if you don't mind uploading the photos you were talking about, I'm sure I will learn something new.

    Hi I recently was given the same model boat that needs restoration work but it did not come with a rudder and can not find any info on the specks of a rudder and was wondering if you could add a picture of the rudder I might be able to make for my boat. Thank you.

    • @mauwi1997
      @mauwi1997 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll add a photo of the rudder, to be honest, most of the rudders/stocks in those days (late 60's early 70's) were wood and were not the most reliable, in the end people switched to aluminum stocks, my advise, if you are in the UK is go to Pinnel&Bax and get a new one, it will fit and probably be more reliable.

    • @Surfcityham

      The British had (have) a plywood designed for rudders and centerboards. The layers are 45 degrees from the ones below or above. Not the 90 of regular plywood. As best I can remember from being a fleet measurer, the centerboard had to fit into the centerboard case and there was no design requirement on the rudder.

    Beautiful restoration.
    With the wood side rails I would have gone with the walnut shells in varnish non-skid instead of the white tape non-skid.

    I came across an original one in outstanding condition. Where is the Hull ID #? can't find it

    • @mauwi1997
      @mauwi1997 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's usually on a black alloy plate, so the boat number is usually 4 numbers, this plate is usually inside the stern, alternatively you may find the number etched into the wood transom or underneath or down the back of the centre board. These are the usual places.

      @@inspectorgadget5698 I cannot give you the exact date. But, my Parker 5-0-5 was hull 3219 and was delivered December 1968. 5-0-5 hull 3844 was at the 5-0-5 World championships at Santa Cruz CA July 1971. Looking at my photos, many of the boats that I can read the sail numbers of have 3700 and 3800 hull numbers. They ere probably the newest boats.
