The Universe has spotted the small islands of the Philippines and right in Manila city was this young, small and charming lady, named Lea Salonga (who was just 17 y.o.), and, voila, "Kim" was found. It was a heaven-sent event that hit Manila as part of global search for this great musical show that also found several other Philippine theater artists that complete the 'Miss Saigon' cast in West End, London. Ms. Lea Salonga had paved the way for Asian artists to have opportunities to play in West End and Broadway as well as touring musical productions in different parts of the world. According to one of the composers, one of the reasons they chose to go to Manila and hold auditions was because of a Lino Brocka movie. Schonberg saw this movie in Paris and it struck him how beautiful the scoring was and it stayed with him.
