A great performance. Just makes you sit back and think. Nearly ALL modern blues lyrics singers, can't actually write this type of old song lyrics from a first hand experience. The old school originals have just about all moved on, leaving only 2nd hand experiences to be sung about. Respect to all forms of the blues!
"His harmonica spoke a language of our time: tortured, wailing, crying, and strangely beautiful -- its effect was powerfully human. He seemed to mold the notes through the long fingers of his hands, which were laid palm top palm as if he were to take a long drink of water from them. He would utter the words of his blues from the side of his mouth, slipping the harp between his lips as he finished a vocal phrase so that the melody was sustained on the instrument." Paul Oliver
Yes it is Stephen, thanks for pointing that out, I have played Trust My Baby but not in first position, will have to try it, SBW still one of the best harp players ever, so understated, and he never overplayed, wonderful !
wrong sonny is the best so much passion soul you can tell he's not lying i believe every word sonny says.. also i love the way he can play accapellas on harmonica with no music because i can't do that damn im speechless if there really is a heaven i hope to go were sonny went and meat up with him and have a heavinly blues revival with all the blues legends..
At (on the second counter) 2:52 Sonny Boy Williamson began a lesson in the blues many dont appreciate or even acknowledge. His ease was a product of his mastery. You could learn from him.
The blues is beautiful, but it was created out of pain. So it's not to be played with like some who do, without suffering of some kind. We know to experience, or live it , makes for true blues. It only becomes a bad or good cover, when people try to copy it. But not genuine from a tormented soul who can tell the story straight from the heart!
This is an important point and thank you for stating it. It can be considered that such applies to those who deeply experience and feel the blues by those who gratefully create the music of it for them and us.
In awe. This video is a tour de force example of Sonny boy's tone, bend technique and raw power. The solo sounded close to "trust my baby," so i am assuming he used it alot. I hope there will be more old footage taken in Europe found.
"The hands are bony, gnarled and beautiful. He is a gripping entertainer -swaying, leaning over backwards, tapping out the beat and blowing fantastic shrill notes, wails, moans and deep growling "harp" sounds." Chris Morphet, The Guardian Tuesday January 19,1965
i dont but . Its letting go of your bad vibes fucking with your soul. Not sad in the least. Ask any REAL bluesman, that is if you would recognize one if he slapped you.
Sonny Boy Williamson is my favorite Blues musician but I had never seen and heard him this early and primal . . . awesome and spiritual. Thank You for putting this out into the world. I hope that more humans will experience this sight, sound, and soul.
It's a common bait trick. The content of the video is paired with a logically distant idea that fits the parameters of a particular interest (they know you have) so you click.
@1986dovic Cheers man for the 'chilling down' about burning people and all... to be honest I hadn't 'tainted' any good memory of a picnic at the park because of the comments here (and probably it's unlikely I'll ever do it based on virtual comments as a matter of fact) ...precisely because of such rumors Gosh man! Let's FOCUS! Sonny boy - harp playing - BEAUTY!!! :P hehe, nothing personal 1985dovic ...things seems to be running out of control (yeah, started with my comment about the image)
sbw the 2nd!!! the goat, little boy blue, alex rice miller.king biscuit flower hour, was about to be in the band with levon and the boys but died.personality in music goes deep and he was a player ass character. my favorite harp player of that time period for sure

I've thought that. Thank you for stating it, and so well.
Amazing... this is who Howlin' Wolf learned from, and how my dad plays. Sure glad I found this video. Blues at it's best, play'em Sonny Boy.
Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. A true legend.
The epitome of cool.Another legend lost forever
This man is the reason we have to call Jimi Hendrix "the Sonny Boy Williamson of the guitar".... Awesome, unnatural sounds!
Wooow !
This is Sonny Boy Williamson 2 ain't it? Inspired by the original Sonny Boy Williamson
@@replacementkillah i believe Sonny Boy Williamson _the second_ is what he's called.
I’ve never heard anyone ever say that.
His real name is RIce Miller.
Unbeleivable!!! Inspirational...
Absolutely awesome! Too bad there are just a few Sonny Boy videos.

Thanks!

He's amazing, for sure, but Little Walter is the G.O.A.T. of the harp.
John Lee Williamson, Deford Bailey, Big Walter, George Smith. But there all the greatest of all time

Master
It shows real history any one that dose not learn from it is bound to repeat it
Anyone else not expecting the picture of a charred corpse at the beginning? Turned a buzz into anxiety.
yeah wtf. not what I was looking for

Not a bait trick, just a segment of a German TV documentary about the history of the blues and the shameful era that it sprang from.
super!!!
PQP SENSACIONAL ESSE VIDEO!
He is the way
