Vintage Lace junk journal

  • I wanted to make a junk journal dedicated entirely to lace, and that's what I've done here. I have a collection of vintage lace scraps from the Sunnyvale Lace Museum, and want to use them up!
    Here I am using the digital download kit "Mabel's Diary" once again, because the colors of the kit work so perfectly with lace! Red, black cream and white perfectly complement the pieces of lace I was working with.
    In addition to the kit and the lace, I used vintage papers from my own growing collection of letters and postcards I've gathered from antique shops and used book sales.
    Mabel's Diary is available from Ephemera's Vintage Garden. Get details at www.ephemerasvintagegarden.com

    Lovely journal and a wonderful idea. I have many lace and tatted items from my families' past. They sit in an airtight container in the closet. It would be wonderful to put them in a journal and explain about them. I love the way you have used Mabel's Diary. The colors come alive with the lace. TFS.

    I loved your idea, I inherited lace and postcards from the beginning of last century and I did a JJ that gave me great pleasure as a way to honor those ladies of the past to whom they belonged.TFS

    Margaret, what a beautiful way to showcase your collectibles. This collection was one of my first digi download purchases. Your thoughtful selection in order to combine the use of white, black and cream lace was genius. New subbie. Happy Crafting.

    Love to hear that you have falling in love with all that lace. Love your journal, so beautiful pages, the paper kit goes perfectly together with your laces. I'm going this summer to Bruges in Belgium and there is also a lace museum I'm going to visit.

    This is one beautiful journal, Margarete!! I love all the vintage lace, gorgeous. I had no idea there were lace museums, but why not...I'll have to research to see if there's any in my country. The tissue you used is from Michael's, in their packaging section. I've bought it there a few times and used it on covers of journals. Not Tim Holtz...maybe Recollections? But last time I went looking for it, they didn't have it anymore. Too bad since it is awesome. Thanks for sharing! Debbie :)

    WOW! That is really beautiful! I love the research you did behind all the different laces. I guess I never thought about different kinds or regions that they would come from.
    I can see using those fragments in a collage piece the way Nik the Booksmith does or Nazy at Amity Bloom. And YES! There's an audience for lace on Etsy. :-)

      So glad you like it! You know, 6 months ago I never thought about lace other than if it's pretty or not. I also, never thought about where it came from. It's been a fun education for me too :-)

      Thanks, Edwina. I'm glad to have given you a few ideas of what to do with your lace :-) At some point in the future I will sell off a chunk of my collection of vintage junk journals; have too many now and am not attached to most of them. Maybe by mid year I'll put them up on Etsy (including this one).

      Thanks for replying. Any chance, when you do decide to put them in Etsy, you could reserve this one for me? I would love to buy it, I just love it. My email address is: edwinakinch@btinternet.com If you can let me know when it is available to purchase that would be fab.
      Thank you so much.

    did you use black paper or did you make it

    • @MargareteMiller
      @MargareteMiller  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For black pages in the journal, I used book pages that I dyed with black ink. Secondly, I used black card stock for inserts and embellishing pages.
