    Inside this video, I discuss when to give aspirin as an EMT. EMTs in the ambulance carry aspirin to give to patients with chest pain complaints and risks of myocardial infarction AKA Heart Attack.

    You should make a playlist of all these medications. I love watching your lesson videos and pharmacology is the one topic I can not find a good set of videos about.

      @@TheParamedicCoach Hi Evan! What if the MI pt is allergic to aspirin? The risk of dying from MI vs anaphylaxis confuses me. Patient has better odds of surviving anaphylaxis vs MI but MI and anaphylaxis at the same time...

    Hey I’m a little confused as to WHEN to call med control for some drugs ? Could you cover that for EMTs ?

    • @TheParamedicCoach
      @TheParamedicCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Med Control is only needed to call when you are asking for something outside of your standing order.

    • @jyeishareyes3629
      @jyeishareyes3629 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheParamedicCoach thank you ! I have literally memorized my protocols and now I see med controls purpose is to protects us as well when it comes to administering drugs for pts with conditions outside our standing protocols such as a pt not being prescribed a med like albuterol You are just calling to ensure a drug is safe to give given the pts current condition and it protects you being that it’s on a recorded line as well as ensures you don’t hurt your pt such as giving albuterol to a pt not prescribed and with past history of cardiac issues such. Thanks a lot.

    when would you administer nitroglycerin rather than aspirin???

    • @TheParamedicCoach
      @TheParamedicCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Alexia, welcome to the channel!
      These are two different medications so it's not a case of "either or"...
      Nitroglycerin for example would be given for chest pain (ACS/STEMI) but also can be used to treat congestive heart failure. Aspirin is used in patient's with Chest Pain (ACS/STEMI)
      They are best used as a team NOT one or the other.
      Be Great!

    can you give nitro after administering aspirin?

    • @TheParamedicCoach
      @TheParamedicCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, of course this depends on the nature of the call and the patient's medication history and blood pressure. Nitro would be given to heart failure patients and chest pain patients, in patients we suspect are having a heart attack

    Can I give both Nirto and Aspirin? When do I give one and not the other?

    • @TheParamedicCoach
      @TheParamedicCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can give both medications to a patient. Nitro decreases "pre-load" and vasodilatation effects which is helpful in MI, but they have to be off ED meds and have a high enough blood pressure.
