Levon will always be one of my favorites too. The Band was great! I’ve always said, Levon was the heart and soul of The Band. The kid from Turkey Scratch Arkansas. There is a Rock N Roll Heaven. And they have one helluva drummer. His name is Levon Helm.
Long Black Veil has been one of my favorite Americana songs ever, since I was 15. When my son went to dance through Croatia in 2000, with Vela Luka dance troupe, they did Western music and dance, LBV was everyone’s favorite Western song.❤
Let me tell you something. This was a magic time, a magic moment, Theresa was on Fire and the whole band was being held up by the Holy Spirit! So Blessed to have been part of those last Grammy Award Winning Years and all the special nights at the Barn that went with it. This is one example of the magic that Got a Hold. ❤️❤️❤️
@@nathanmester4585 as I would have to disagree as well, Daryle singletary in my opinion has done the best version of this song with Johnny paychecks blessing
One of the more interesting things about the Long Black Veil is that it is not an ancient song of Appalachia The truth is that "Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell.
Check Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings in Victoria, closing the show with this. Seriously...very subdued interpretation. I like anything Levon ever did, including this, but it could be argued this might be a bit energetic and stompy for the lyrical subject matter...not that I'd make that argument. But I wouldn't go so far as to say there are no better versions till you hear Welch and Rawlings...and possibly others.
I've listened to a lot of different renditions of Long Black Veil over the past week or so and have decided this one is by far my favorite. I've also enjoyed versions by The Black Crowes and Paige Anderson & The Fearless Kin... I definitely recommend checking those out.

Levon is a duel citizen. It may not be official but him and Ronnie Hawkins are honorary Canadians after tearing up dancehalls across Ontario many year ago.

Shout out to Larry Cambell and Amy Helm.. Larry is a true inspiration to all performers 😊
Amazing that Javier Bardem gets to play with Levon.
Is that what you're asking me? Is there something wrong with anything?

seldom scene with John Duffy
Couldn't wait to hear Levon's incredible voice nail this classic to the wall. No dice. Oh well.
No one does a better version of this song than you guys.the best!
Stan Stephenson ummm I'm sorry but Johnny Cash Austin city limits 1987.
It's Lefty's song. He killed it. This has way too much drums for such a dark, brooding song. It's almost too fast.
@@willthorson4543 Disagree - this has just the right tone and Teresa has just the right voice

Nicely done by a great group of musicians. RIP Levon.
That guy playing the mandolin, Larry Campbell, guys awesome. He spent alot of time playing for dylan. Multinstrumentalist.
