    Thanks so much for putting this simplified one out. Do you have any measurements to help guide the exact placement of your heater, or is it just nestled into the 'nook' there on the seat platform as best as you can fit it?

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re welcome!! I measured it out the first time and got as close as I could. It’s difficult to be exact when underneath the van so I drilled a small pilot hole and then crawled underneath to verify I wasn’t going to hit anything important underneath and had enough room for all the components.
      But getting it in that “nook” as you say, as close to the driver seat step is a good spot!

    • @TWSUF-JI
      @TWSUF-JI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to be a little careful of the EVAP solenoid below that area but otherwise it’s a perfect spot for a heater.

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TWSUF-JI you’re exactly right. In fact I’ll pin the comment so others can see. I should have mentioned this in the video. That is the reason I drilled a pilot hole. So I could see exactly where I was cutting!

    • @4945tv
      @4945tv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A great way to ballpark things under the van is to take drop a piece of coat hanger etc down the tie down bolt holes. some go right through tooutside. Then measure off that known point to do the pilot hole. I'm also using a few of the tie downs to bolt the floor and heavy items down for safety in case of an accident.
      I ended up almost dead center of where I had the plate sitting for layout in the van. Cheers.

Love the step you built around the heater, I'm doing a similar one in my PM but will add some cutouts to allow for shoe storage and after much deliberation I'm going with the Espar instead of Webasto. Excellent video with a clear, concise explanation of the Webasto heater. Could you address in a future video problem solving when the heater gives error codes? Maintenance too, as I learned from customer service that regular high heat running is critical to long term use. Having not done this, I think I’m currently suffering the consequences. I’ve used my Webasto for eight months and now it won’t start. Code F02. Customer service is excellent but closed on weekends. I’m at an RV Park relying on a small backup electric heater as the overnight temps are in the mid 20s. Glad to have a Plan B but desperately want to get my Webasto operating again!

    I'm curious, your video as well as another both have the exhaust pipe terminating slightly below 45 degree angle with ground however the installation manual advises it must be 90 degrees downward citing fire risk. I can't imagine what fire risk there is either way. Can you comment on what this is about?

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could see if the exhaust was pointing straight down it could catch tall grass or something on fire. But other than that a 45° has worked fine

  • @bjbhehir
    @bjbhehir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I installed my Espar last summer and I didn't use that mounting plate, but it sure makes the install a lot easier!! Great Job!!
    Do you have any concerns that your exhaust hose clamps are basically in the van? Normally you'd mount it to the floor and the exhaust hose is completely outside of the van and then I put some caulking around each hole so no fumes can get in. Those fumes are bad!!
    A friend has asked me to help them install their Espar in a few weeks and they have a plate and we'll be mounting it to the floor but I'll cut out the floor area like you did. Great video!!

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t had any issues or concerns! I used a hefty amount of silicone around the edges of the plate. Also that flooring is less than 1/4”
      Thick so it’s not too high above the floor of the van!

    After watching your video, I've gone from having about 43 questions down to just one.
    For the fuel pump wires coming out of the heater, how does one determine polarity? It seems to me the DC pump would want positive (brown) and negative (blue) to match up correctly. Any thoughts on that?

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey man thx so much for this video.
    2 Quick Q:
    1.
    I notice that we have a “1 amp fuse” next to the 15amp fuse that’s coming off the heater. Did yours have one too? I didn’t see it in the video.
    2.
    We just hit the road for the first time full time and getting some H83 errors then the F07 lockout … we didn’t use it for ~1 year. When I force reset by taking the 20amp fuse it works for sometime and then I have to reset it when I get too many H83.
    Having no luck on my online research on how to solve this H83…

      Typically Webasto is used for gas engines like most of the ProMasters and Transits, and Espar is used for diesel engines like most of the Sprinters. Espar does offer a heater for gasoline engines, the M2-B4L model, but I haven't seen it installed in many vans. I haven't installed or used either of them but that's what I know about them.

    "we should hear it fire up"....how can it fire up if there's no fuel?

  • @1QKGLH
    @1QKGLH 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You used the wrong fuel line at the adapter. The installation manual, and the webasto tech-support folks will tell you to NEVER use anything other than the supplied fuel line. Webasto sells a rubber adapter that goes right from the adapter to the plastic fuel line.
    I think you need to buy a better hole saw. I have drilled literally dozens of holes in sprinters, transits, and promasters and it still cuts great.
    I like where you put it. In a ProMaster that works great, there's nothing behind the seats really, no fuel tank, transmission, etc. Nice idea.

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Thanks for all the information. What is wrong with the fuel line I used from the adapter? Is there any harm or danger in the method I used?
      Would you link the adapter you used! That would be very helpful. And what kind of hole saw did you use? I used one of those $45 Milwaukee ones at Home Depot that says it’s designed for cutting metal. I may have just drilled too fast...
      and thanks! I really like the location of the heater too.
      Thanks for all the info!

    • @1QKGLH
      @1QKGLH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AnkeneyVanBuilds Truth be told, that short length of fuel line is probably ok, but the issue with anything larger than the stock fuel line is that the heater 'knows' that each pulse of fuel is going to deliver XX mL of fuel to the heater. If the fuel line is too large after the pump, each pulse will deliver more than XX mL of fuel, causing over-fueling and the problems that result. If larger fuel line is used before the fuel pump, the pump might not be strong enough to lift that column of fuel, causing either a no-start, or under-fueling.
      The adapter for the fuel connection is webasto part number 1319718, but you'll also need a 12mm version of the clamps that are in the kit. That number is 1310736. It's a great way to make that connection.
      The hole saw set I have is made by Lennox.
      You don't see a lot of folks using the ProMaster for these builds, but I think, if you don't need 4X4, it's a great option. That low floor and front wheel drive make for a great package for a build, in my opinion.
