So sad to hear that Ian passed away last month. His beautiful, flowing, melodic solos and phrasing on Alan Parsons' albums will forever be embedded in my consciousness. God bless Ian, you've been old and wise for many decades and your work is testament to that wisdom.

Fantastic musician for decades - everything he played and everyone he played with was better for his presence. Rest in peace.

Great solos here by the late Ian Bainson (RIP) with Pilot, one of my favourite bands of the '70s, and a group of top-notch fusionists, including bassist Stanley Clarke (5.50).

I rank guitarists by the pleasure they give to my ears. By that measure Bairnson is in the top ranks.

Ian Bairnson was part of the UK group PARIS at the time of their 1981 single HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE. A goodie it was too.

There's something about that distinctive bending, vibrating, phrasing, sliding and crossing those boundaries between pop, rock, jazz and time.
In another aeon, I might humbly let you know, what that's all about.

Killer playing and tone from Ian here. Do we know what drive pedal he was using on the first few clips?

That may have been just the Les Paul Custom with the Marshall Plexi on the Orange 4x12 cab switching the pickups and lowering the volume knobs now and then. In the later clips from a German TV Show with Curt Cress at one drum set the guitar had different pickups (DiMarzios ?). I agree that his sound has always been great, also on Alan Parsons albums.

No pedals, just Les Paul, lead and a 50 watt Marshall
Go to his website and he lists what gear he used

Wuthering Heights brought me here. Sad that I only realised it was his genius until he had sadly passed away, I thought it was Dave Gilmour.

Alan Parsons must have gave him some direction because he was more melodic when he was in the A P A
