    Lyrics:
And the caravan is on it's way
I can hear the merry gypsies play
Mama, mama look at Emma Rose
    She's a-playin' with the radio
La la la la, la la la
La la la la, la la la

I had the pleasure of taking classes from Nathan Rubin (the violinist featured here in this Van Morrison performance beginning at the 4:33 mark) while I was a music major at Cal State Hayward in the mid 1970's. Professor Rubin was so wonderfully eclectic. As a virtuoso violinist and in his teaching, Nathan embodied genre equity - validating and elevating the status of popular music genres and respective musicians within the established European/American Classical tradition of study.

There is no rock artist who can say more with just rhythm and sound than can Van, IMHO. Looking at his lyrics on the page, they often look like nothing. But, oh my, when he has a band chugging along behind him, he is sublime. Funky and ecstatic at the same time. Neat trick that few can pull off. When the band hits, that is what is all about. Van is often a surly performer, but when he is "on" there is no one like him.

I would imagine van is the envy of his peers, he has total control over the sound but is gracious enough to allow the musicians he is working with to add their own embellishments. Not every artist has an ego loose enough to allow this and it works because he hires the best in the business. But the genius of Van will studied in centuries to come.

Van has nothing to answer to nobody. The double CD is still worth searching down. (I would be "gruff" too if I was coming up with this magic. :-))

09.04.22 - 9 AM CST - Lake Geneva, WI, mostly cloudy. Heading to a gosh forsake Wal-Mart and for the first time in my life, I heard this version of CaraVan, on the radio, in my POS MiniVan : - ). I wasn't feeling to great, for whatever the reason (see minivan & walmart), but soon had out of control smiling goose bumps!!! Thanks Van and the gang!!!

This is brilliance beyond compare! I have never ever been blown away more in my life than when I watch and witness a musical genius named Van Morrison. His passion, and valor are captivating, and addicting. This song is a true testament to the man that created this beautiful music!! Damn!! I honor you Van Morrison!!

The man, for 50 years keeps growing and expanding his talent. Got to give a shout out until the throat gets sore to the band. John Platania is still working his guitar magic in concerts on the East coast. Brothers, and that includes you, Van, you all have to come to Chicago for some Blues Soul jammin'. The Blues of Chicago is missing Sir Van and Platania.

'It's Too Late To Stop Now', one of, if not the greatest live recording of all time. I still listen to this record all the time. Aside from the performances just being blindingly good and Van absolutely crushing it- it's so well recorded! You just feel like you're in the room as you listen to it. It transports you to another place, even the crowd really play their part. In the rendition of Cypress Avenue from the album, a crowd member can clearly be heard shouting out during a quiet part, "Turn it on!", and Van just coolly replies without missing a step, "It's turned on already", the crowd laps it up and then the band kick it up to full volume. No one does it like this anymore.
I wasn't even alive when it was recorded but I feel like I was there :) Fortunately I got to see VM perform at The Royal Albert Hall during the Astral Weeks 40th Anniversary Tour, cost me a bloody arm and a leg. I've never paid so much money for a concert, but it was Uh-may-zing! Worth every damn penny. Will never forget it.
Cheers Georgie boy, you're The Man!
