Hehe, you met our dear railroad company, with a "tiny" 45 minutes delay. :)) So, sadly our train infrastructure is in a state of disrepair due to neglect, hence the slow trains. The EU is pouring money in as we speak, but it will take a few years of things being bad until they get better. The trains themselves you'll find that they belong sometime in the late neolithic era at most, there are generally no restaurant cars nor any such amenities you might expect from riding western European rail networks. On the flipside, they're very cheap and not completely uncomfortable, so there's that I guess. :)
As far as classes go, if you need to travel by train, do yourself a favor and get a 1st class ticket if one is available, especially if you're coming or going to a tourist/vacation spot. That class of 40 children? Never such a thing on 1st class - they always go cheap, as usually they can't even find enough seats for all of them in the 1st class car, so you're safe from that. Also, on 1st class the air conditioning almost always works, whereas on second class, it may be a bit more hit and miss. The space you get is bigger, I believe the seat quality is also a bit better in 1st class, and if traveling alone and you're purchasing a ticket from the CFR app there's a convenient function there that allows you to pick your seat. On 1st class, you can pick a solo seat, as most cars configuration is 2 + 1 rows, as opposed to the 2+2 configuration for the second class cars. At least that would be my advice. Oh, yea, and if you can help it, don't get a seat near the toilet of the car. Usually it's okay, but there's always a remote possibility that it might be out of order and stink.
Take care and have a safe journey!
