At 9:10 he nailed the difference between the objectives of audiophiles vs high fidelity enthusiasts.

The Spendors are a natural match for the Quads

Great review and very well worded. I Love Quad and Celestion I have ESL63s SL6S and Ditton 66 Studio monitors and can agree it is horses for courses. Get a sound you like and if you can stick with it, you will save so much money. If you loved the sound 10yrs ago why would you not still like that sound today… unless your musical taste has changed. GST a system you love and enjoy it and stat listening to the music not your system,,,, if you know what I mean. 👍😊

Hiya, deeply into the Harbeth and Spendor club now, I just picked up M40. 1 and have been resurrecting a pair of virgin SP100 cabinets into working units. Wanted to ask what you think of the Quad pre, I find the tilt a bit frustrating when just trying to take the edge off a poor remaster....
    Currently paired with Meridian G57.
    Keep up the good work!

Interesting. The Ditton system exercised more control over the speakers, whereas the Quads sounded quite fluent, musically, but just lacking that last bit of top end transparency, which is typical of the brand back in the day. But, as you say Kevin, the title controls would bring things into better balance. Having owned all those Quad components, I always felt, however, that that using the HF tilt bias tended to drop the LF response a bit.

      It does indeed.
Nice idea and it works but ultimately a frustrating solution in my opinion.
I personally liked it and was very musical.👍

      Awesome 🤩
I’ve rebuild/repaired and modified a fair few Celestion speakers so the younger generations can still use them.
As for building new ones? It would cost way too much now.
A modern SL600 in today’s money would retail at £4K+ easily.
