there is one important thing to point here. When you click the Link option then it creates a shortcut and not a file, hence if we delete the original file then the created object won't open in the presentation.

Select the icon of the embedded file
Go to Insert Tab in the Ribbon
Select Action (next to Hyperlink)
You can see two tabs: Mouse Click & Mouse Over which is self-explanatory
Select Object action: Open
Feel free to check “Play sound” and/or Highlight click if you want
OK
Go to slideshow. You can move your mouse to the icon and click to open it now.
