I first heard the drummer, Corey Fonville, play when he was about 15 y/o. I knew within about two measures, that this young man had a significant professional music career ahead of him. Great playing and feel by the entire band!
Donald Harrison, who never shirks from a challenge, looks Kind of Blue straight in the eye. It takes guts but there it is, a 21st century shout out to a 20th century masterpiece. He takes some brilliant in-the-pocket players covering several generations, examines the original five tunes (Blue in Green, So What, All Blues, Freddie Freeloader and Flamenco Sketches), throws in three new tunes heavily in the style (Kind of New, It Is and What Next?) and lays it out. This is it - Kind of Blue done Kind of New. Sidemen on this disc are Christian Scott on trumpet (Donald's nephew, who was 17 years old at the time of this recording) Javon Jackson on saxophone, Kenny Barron and Eric Reed on piano, Vincente Archer on bass and Carl Allen on drums.
...Swept out horn like Dizzy, chops like Miles. Christian and his boys are preaching fire and brimstone jazz... and I'm believin'. Love these young guns. [JazzLives!]
Meterse con Kind of Blue requiere mucho valor. Lo que hacen es algo nuevo y maravilloso sin perder la esencia.
This was tasty like the Adderley brothers, especially when they vamped. When Braxton started his solo - it was like Cannon doing his thing with Nat by his side. Thanks for the journey. You brothers are doing your own thing, it’s just these old ears have heard a thing or two. Bravo !!!
Hi Emmanuel, he has not released this on an album. However, he did play sax on Donald Harrison Jr.'s album featuring this song and album of the same name. Info below and thanks for watching! Info here: www.discogs.com/Donald-Harrison-Jr-Kind-Of-New/release/11350467
The future of jazz music rests in capable hands with these young lions. And then there's a lion cub by the name of Alexander Joey. Now this kid? All I can say is, "HOLY COW BAT MAN!" This is kid is something else! He's like the reincarnation of the late great Oscar Peterson! ( ^ _ ^ )
1:22 bass player, sir... that lead into the walk... 😳
Killin homie... kiiiillin...👌🏾🔥✊🏾
rhythm section know their stuff, great to hear this group play in the tradition
Christian acknowledges his roots.
This is the kind of music that grabs you, involves you...so ,it's in the spaces that I find meaning in music, as in life.
I watched it on its 36th view! love these guys!

That piano player's comping is perfect.
Pardon my ignorance but what does comping mean?
@@mvrz6 It means accompaniment .
This is hands down the best performance by Christian Scott & the group I've seen so far...beautiful

Keep the tradition going young men, well played!
Man... so good! His trumpet playing goes straight into the soul.

My introduction to Jazz was through Miles Davis and I think this is why Christian's style and playing resonates with me so much
