    Lol when you said 1788 was long and boring. I’ve ridden that road uncountable times from Midland to Seminole. I find it much more enjoyable than 385 from Odessa to Lubbock.
    Thanks for sharing your trip on the BMW. I was and still am excited about your opinions on this bike. I stated before I’m die hard Goldwing for almost 50 yrs. I absolutely know you have an honest opinion and review of this motorcycle. I’m so diehard Goldwing, I’m not so sure I could be fair.
    I’m looking forward to a trip back home to Visit my sisters in Minnesota in the coming weeks on my 2018 DCT Tourer. It’s so much nicer to have views others than the oilfield of West Texas. However, I love the almost year round riding here. I also am planning a trip to Key West, Fl in the fall and May stay in south Florida all winter. Love retirement. I don’t plan on leaving Lubbock Texas area ever. It’s close enough to Lubbock anyway. 30 miles. Growing up and navigating Minneapolis/St.Paul traffic jams, the growing crime and the cold winters. OMG…. Lubbock is boring and I like the solitude. Close enough for medical reasons and far enough to stay sane from a metropolitan jungle. I love the backroads out here to nowhere, nowhere is where I want to be. I wished I could have rode with you a few miles out here. I’ve followed you for a few years even when I lived in Minnesota and value your work you put into the Goldwing community. It means a lot to this old man.

    The awareness of deer is real. A deer hit me 6 weeks ago and totaled my BMW K1600. She ran out and hit me in the helmet. I have been riding since 1968. Raced motorcycle's for 25 years traveled the country even instructed motorcycle safety courses. I have a broken spine and back, Had all the safety equipment but still suffered road rash. Wildlife is no joke. While I am healing I enjoy watching your videos and plenty of other people.

    Keeping your foot on the rear brake does nothing with this bike unless you’re only using rear brake. As soon as you use the front it will add the rear brake automatically, regardless of how much pressure, or lack thereof, you provide as input.

    Trick I learned yrs ago, traveling across AZ/NM/TX: Koolgater, soak it every time you fuel up and a camelbak backpack filled with Gatorade - I place a freezer pack between the bladder and the backpack, keeps the drink ice cold

    Great videos, there are two main reasons that made me choose the GW rather than the GTL, the low center of gravity and that the GW will most likely outlast the BMW by 30 years.
    The only downside with the GW is the poor capasity of the side bags.
    I have the 21 DCT tour airbag.

    • @curtissmith8789
      @curtissmith8789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow outlast it by 30 years!! I'm riding way to much to think about a bike lasting 30 years, no matter who makes it. Unless I'm collecting them that's one thing, but as a primary ride...No. At the rate I've been doing the last 25 years 30 years would be about 750k+. Nevermind the bike lasting 30 years, what about me.

    I hit a deer in 2012 on my old ZX11 while doing 70 down the highway. I must have just caught a back leg because it almost threw me off the bike, but not quite. There was a small hole in each side of the lower fairing after that, but everything else was mostly ok. The only loss that day was to the underwear I was wearing. They weren't any good after that!

    I like the BMW too but if I would choose to go that way I'd rather take the R1250RT. I am excited to find out what a head to head is going to be. I had a scary moment on the last GW I had too. It was early in the evening and I drove uphill. As soon as I was over the hill there were two deer in the road, one in the middle, the other one blocking my roadway. I gradually accelerated and aimed between them and made it as there was not enough time and space for a full on breaking. Also my 2015 didn't have ABS so that was a factor too. I made it but my hands were shaking a little after the incident... Lol

    Upon your early morning departure did you notice that the handlebar switches were not backlit? The console and handlebar bar of the Wing are all lit up. That’s a real nice feature. As well, the front directionals on the GTL are located mid level of the bike, just above the radiator, whereas the Wing are right on the mirrors where motorist see them best. Just an observation and an opinion of course. Looking forward to your point by point review. Looking good out there.

      Fair enough. Had you compared the 15 GTL to a 2015 Gold Wing? More brilliant are today’s Gen 6 Gold Wings. A different specie.

    • @mavorik66
      @mavorik66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roadglide I did when it first came out and I agree entirely different, when I first saw it in person I felt honestly they had downsized it so much in comparison to previous Goldwing that they may have taken a page from the K1600 in actuality, test riding a dct and approaching my first turn around had me pucker up a bit for the fact it had shifted mid corner, I understand since that such can be manuel shifted if rider chooses so, so not a big factor especially for those owners that absolutely know shift points per the rpm in a particular mode
      My other observation in comparison was that I felt I sat more on top of Godwing (new version) vs BMW GTL
      although I owned the GT version, so the GT was Morso like that of the Goldwing

      Got it! Sounds good. The manual 6 speed tranny on the new GE is also smooth as butter for those that are not fans of DCT. I get the tactile difference and slow speed skills control advantage of a clutch’s friction zone. The DCT is a hooligan off the line, open highway or slow speed traffic. Relieving the hand of the clutch lever. But cone weaves and obstacle course navigating the DCT requires a practiced technique as you are using only brake and throttle. Good stuff. Ride safe. Any day on two wheels on a great day.

      My experience and belief is that you went sort of with the masses by going with HD for what the Goldwing produced, having been a owner of a showroom display 2015 K1600 although not the GTL but the more sporty posture GT I could certainly say Honda had thoughts of making this generation of the new Goldwing stature somewhat similar in size versus the sofa on 2 wheel status and followings

    If you only have 350 miles to cover in the day, why highway? Why not some roads even somewhat interesting?

    Regarding the BMW Nav and BaseCamp, did you import Route, Track or Waypoints, or all 3? Which did you select to route? In order to use BaseCamp waypoints effectively on the BMW Nav, you need to alphabetically order the waypoints in the order of on your route. Ex: 01-Start, 02-Break, 03-Lunch, 04-End. Otherwise not doing this with a lot of waypoints will cause the BMW Nav to mix the order of the waypoints. This is if you select the Waypoints to route. If you selected the Track or Route option to route, you'll just get turn-by-turn and no waypoints. Regarding not being able to hear the Nav through your headset, do you see your headset paired in the Connections from the System menu? Both Bluetooth and WiFi are used from your phone to connect with the bike. WiFi is used to transfer the graphical maps from the phone to the bike's TFT, and Bluetooth is used for the rest of the connections. Without knowing and seeing how you currently have the phone and TFT set up, it's hard to say what's wrong.

      @@cruisemansgarage So I assume you selected the Route option you imported to actually route you? That would explain why no waypoints.

    Today.......... I sold my GW 2020 Tour DCT White on Black motor/frame/wheels :-(. The reason? I already gave a deposit for a 2022 or 2023 (Lord knows when it will be here!) BMW K1600 GT.
    Why BMW K1600?
    On my last round trip from Miami to Harrison, AR (The Ozarks,) the other two riders had BMW RT 1250 (2022,) which sparked my interest in the BMWs. Upon my return, I contacted a friend who has a K1600 GTL, he was kind enough to let me try it for a 100 miles ride.
    What I liked................POWER!!!!
    What I did not like:
    1. Top-heavy.
    2. Riding position is not that comfortable when compared to the Goldwing. The seat is too low (I'm 6'), and the footpegs are a bit towards the back; therefore, your legs are bent less than 90 degrees (almost approaching a sport-bike position)
    3. Since this GTL was not a 2022............the electronic cluster/GPS/dashboard is and looks so outdated.
    4. When I ventured to open the side cases..........They are flimsy as hell when you compare them with the Goldwing.
    Both bikes handle very well in the twisties. The Goldwing is a competent one taking comers. I did not notice any K1600 advantage over the Goldwing.
    So, Then why a BMW K1600? As I said before POWER!!!!
    Why a GT and not a GTL?
    1. I like the metallic with on black motor/frame/wheels, just like my Goldwing.
    2. The riding position (for me) in the GT is almost as comfortable as the Goldwing
    3. The top case (which I already ordered) can be installed in/out relatively quickly.
    4. I have been riding Goldwing for almost 20 years. I have always been a sport-rider, I don't care for the straight lines, but I love the twisties and a good engine punch. I think the BMW K1600 will give me the power that I crave and the comfort that I need to continue riding with my wife ( you know it..... comfy wife............ happy life!)
    I will miss my Goldwing, it is a great bike, and she took me on delightful trips and allowed me to meet great people................. so I have changed the Brand, but not the Band!
    PS:
    He knew he was walking
    Into a waiting trap
    Neatly set up for him
    With a bait so richly wrapped
    So he went inside there to take on what he found
    But he never escaped them, for who can escape what he desires?

      Sounds like the cons outweigh the pros. I will never give up willingly my DCT Tourer. This (or any) Goldwing has never left me stranded and I have been on Goldwing since 1981. I think you made an error. But, your ride, not mine. Be safe out there.

      Your choice as more of a speed junkie, I get it. I'm not, sport mode on the Gold Wing is thrilling enough for me. Maybe get a Hayabusa. I have a 51 year old friend that's a speed junkie and rides a Hayabusa, to each his own. You can't put a helmet in the BMW's top case, NO HOLE FOR A BACKREST in the seat !!!. A major must for me. A worse dealer network and more expensive to work on and maintain. Harley is the king of aftermarket and culture, then Gold Wing and worse for BMW.

    Well, I’ve watched the previous K1600 videos. I really don’t care about the bike. Other observations…too many commercials, too much filler, too much self-promotion, the music overlay blasts when it’s on, then when you speak the volume is too low, and if I didn’t like Lidlox before the videos, I surely don’t like them now. I used to find value in your videos, but recently that has not been the case. I’m sure it won’t make any difference but if I continue to find little value in the channel, I will unsubscribe. Just thought you should know.

      @dennism665 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, perhaps I was a bit harsh. I’ve been with you for years, own both of your video repair series, and have usually found value in your reviews. In answer to your question, videos should be either informative, or entertaining. The best are both. Product reviews and how to’s are also good. I was annoyed with watching 68 minutes of boring Highway, and most comments, with multiple repeats over, and over, and then again on day 4. Banners and ads overlaid and repeated. I understand you only had one camera, so all the more reason to cut it short. One 15 minute video could have encompassed that 68 minutes, and I wouldn’t have felt like I wasted so much time. Travel vlogs are nice,but you have to put something interesting in there.
      You asked, so I replied. Sorry for the delay. I was out riding.
