Just a little tip I use. If you keep the sanding dust and mix a little with some PVA wood glue it makes a wood filler with the same colour as the natural wood. Fill it slightly proud to allow for shrinkage and sand smooth. It will take the stain the same as the wood so it makes it easier to camouflage the repair. Only use wood filler if you intend to paint it. Very nice job by the way

Just an FYI, you don't glue your drawer bottoms in. You tack them with small tack nails. Another FYI, anytime you need to take apart something glued, use white distilled vinegar using a glue needle. Let it sit for a few mins, then it should come out easy. If not use another go of the vinegar. Works!!
Beautiful! Even though that finish was hard to remove it probably was instrumental in protecting the wood. I admire your attention to detail and persistence in getting things right!
I love the way you kept the piece with the beautiful grain showing. I honestly wasn't loving the gold trim at first but when I saw the finished product I think it brought the warm tones of the wood out beautifully. Thank you for painting over this beautiful vintage piece. I have a waterfall front dresser and cedar chest in these tones that I would love to restore. Beautiful! Thanks for always talking us through the process. It makes you think you could do it too! Also love the gold trim with the gorgeous wood grain. It think it makes the piece and really highlights the beauty of the wood.
Hi, wood clamp and saw tip, when you need to use a “fence” as a guide to the saw like you did with the level(way to overcome and adapt), don’t clamp the level down, in this case clamp Behind the level. They will clamp tighter for you. Then put just one clamp on the level to keep if from skidding with you. The level will stay in line for your guide more easily and you won’t have to fight to keep it exactly line up for your straight line.
The bondo scraper/credit card with the sandpaper tip is great. Thank you. The whole piece turned out amazing. I loved your colour choice and the pinstripe gilding.

Beautiful and great explanations for us as always. Can you elaborate on why you use OSMO to seal? I don’t see other refinishers use this. Is there a downside to using it? Can you use it over gel stain (oil based) as well as water based stain?
I found it at Woodcraft and did some research on it. It’s a German company. It’s similar to Odies and Rubio Monocoat, but it came highly recommended so I tried it. I love it! It an oil and wax combo so you get the benefit of both and it dries with a natural feel. It can be applied after a light sanding to freshen it up or fix a scratch. You can use it over oil based stains and water based stains. You just need to check dry time before applying.

Liked learning about the repair process for the back pieces as well as the patched hole techniques. Mine seems dull after 2 projects even with interim sharpening. Also, how do you advise clients to care for the oiled finish? Is it durable if someone puts a wet glass on it? Question 3, did the 2nd application of the dark stain even out the wood tones on the two different types of wood? The wood color on the two different species was very different with the light brown dye, but seemed very consistent on the finished piece.
Thanks Heidi! You’re so sweet 🫶 I flip the blades over to get more use and then buy new when needed. I need to buy a sharpening stone. It’s on the list. I used this oil on a table for myself and it’s super durable. I can be reapplied too. I haven’t given the link to buyer’s about the reapplication, but I should. On the smaller, narrower areas that did not strip well, you might have tried a razor blade/utility knife blade using it like a card scraper. Smaller, sharper, and more maneuverable, it might have done the job.
A utility blade is super cheap, and you never have to worry about sharpening it-just toss it out and get the next one. My husband buys a pack of 100 and there are multiple uses. I like the carbide scraper kits, but they have to be somewhat expensive.
I love this style dresser. The holes on the back were mostly likely from a mirror as they used to use long wood or metal pegs that held the mirror in place. Most new dressers screw on to the wood pieces on the back. Gorgeous piece though & I’m glad you didn’t paint it.

I wish I were doing all that! But I have limits-so I will plan to re-sand and finish/paint a bookcase, and rebuild three cheapo, rickety, peel n stick finish particle board bookcases that fell apart. That’s plenty to keep me busy, and new activities ( like chalk paint ) to get me in trouble! 😍. Very best wishes to you and other craftsmen & women. You’re keeping my brain learning & my mind active. Hugs. 😊
That’s funny, I love the smell of wood too! Lowes and Home Depot are my happy places. 😅 I love doing furniture and I think all the activity has been good for me and keeping me limber and strong. Knowing your limits is good and yet still trying with small projects is smart. Good luck on your projects 🙌🏼🤩

You look to be handling the right kind of tools the right kind of ways. You’re very good but I expect in 3-5 years you will be as great as you want to be. I’m so jealous!
I will be glad when that crumbly quick wood runs out. You have been struggling to make it work awhile now. The piece turned out lovely. Going darker was the right move.
Right?! I think I need to switch to the Mohawk epoxy.
@@ivylaneinteriorsI am trying to remember which flip I watched that had some that was pliable and I think it was John’s furniture. She is from Canada and mentioned she loved it.
