  • PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tech channel, but simply a show-and-tell. It is not designed to give advice and support on vacuum tube amplifiers but to show what I get up to each week in the workshop.
I deliberately keep tech talk to a minimum, or at least to a point where it’s understandable to the casual viewer. There are other channels more suited to that level of detail.
I do not do reviews, either paid or unpaid. My opinions are entirely my own and do not represent those of others.
All comments are welcome but those deemed unhelpful, rude, inappropriate, or unsavoury will be reviewed and possibly censored.

Ken also used some of the Mullard GZ-34 Rectifier tubes I scored for him circa 1991 😊. Miss Ken...

Very interesting to see the frequency spectrum analysis. Mark Knopfler used two of these Reinhardt amps some time ago. Thanks for posting.

Harmonics was really interesting. I suspect most digital stuff rolls off at 20kHz (44k sampling and filters) - some newer stuff will be 48kHz (96k sampling). Even if we can’t ‘hear’ such frequencies they clearly change the signal shape (rise rates etc)

I like that they took the time to test and mark outside foils in that mini plexi thing. Also interested in what is going on with the diodes around the phase inverter... Maybe a fizz fix?

Love the channel Chris, especially the diagnosing parts as I am a junior tech and learning as much as I can! Could you show us how to put in the strain relief with that tool, are there any tricks? I always have problems installing the fatter 3 wire cords into fenders, even with the tool you have. Cheers

Good to see the tangible harmonics spread, most of the info is not told to musos. They read stuff and get confuzed. Great explanation

Custom build = Cornford RK100?? You mentioned later 90's/early 00's in another video and the dual gain pot is a Martin Kidd signature....

Chris, amazing video as always - very impressed that you had the Rheinhardt in,- a 'very rare' amp, with nearly no real information out there but what an amp !. I always wanted a Talyn - any chance you could build one ??

Interesting to see you sticking with axial electrolytic caps for the new design, I would have thought that designing it for radial electrolytics would help with future proofing. Would be nice to hear your thoughts on Wednesday. 😊

Really curious what's going on with the grid feed resistors on the Reinhardt, with the diodes and something else I couldn't identify on the video and extra resistors, is it some type of MV or something? Thanks for sharing a cool looking amp.

The guitologist works on amps sometimes. He's USA. Inside a $10K amp

Hello, I have a question. I have a Fender Vibrolux Reverb and the pot is a 100k Linear, would I gain more range control using a 100K Audio? Fenders have this range from 2 to 3 without going into a canyon reverb.... thank you Jim

I understand how bias affects dissipation and why that needs to be in an appropriate range, but how and why does bias affect tone? Does the B+ affect tone (assuming it is biased at the same amount of dissipation as for differing B+)? - thanks. I appreciated the spectrum analyser,, I know the effect but nice to actually see what happens .

That's a cool program that allows you to layout the wiring and components of the amp like that. Is it affordable to a hobbyist? I 'd like to use that to record what I find in an amp when I open it up. thanks
