Thinking about doing more personal updates on the channel outside of camera gear. More focused on our nomad journey from time to time, like once or twice a month. What do you guys think?
I lived in Japan 3 years, 40 some years ago. To call home, we had to go through international operators to get calls placed, letters were fairly fast and we shared cassette tapes, too. Quite a change to today's internet. Unfortunately I missed the peak fall seasons as my travel agent, the US Navy, had other plans for me at those times. Intercity and local travels were quite convenient and in the major touristy areas, it wasn't difficult to find language help if needed. It's easy to get to snowy areas from Tokyo, but Tokyo doesn't typically get much. Spring was incredible. As noted before, summers are hot and humid, similar to the coastal areas of the South, with the potential for typhoons. Have fun!
We got trapped for about 8 months in Japan over lock down. It was glorious. Super easy to live there, the only thing I wished for was better, stronger soap.
I'm so impressed by the way this channel has developed over the years. Taking the nomadic leap and now considering a long term stay in Japan keeps the channel moving along. I'd wait on the long term stay until you have lived through a summer in Japan. LA may get hot but never as humid as Japan. Maybe you can head to Hokkaido during the summer. Hard to believe you are a month into your Japan trip and have yet to encounter/use a squat toilet.
Thank you! I've been to Singapore this year in May and I think I can imagine what summer would be like in Japan... unless it's worse... then ☠ I've used squat toilets before - just not in Japan yet 🙈
That’s awesome! I found people in Japan extremely polite and respectful. Being there for a while however, I realized how being Japanese isn’t easy due to having a lot of pressure from society and the whole honour thing. Overall though, they are the most polite, organized and respectful people on earth. I definitely want to go live there again and become karate kid again.
this video is AWESOME thank you! Also LOVE hearing that Kyoto is only a 2 hour train trip from Tokyo. 500 MBPS Internet in Tokyo sounds LIFE CHANGING wow definitely adding Tokyo to my list
researchers have always had nomadic experiences even before arrival of the digital era, during sabbatical periods for a few months up to a year or so, but you folks are really serious about it! Thanks for sharing and, yes, I love to recall my visits to Japan, the country has changed less than you might think in the last one or two decades.
Get it my brother I'm super proud of you and the Lady V, you two rock! The life of a nomad how crazy cool is that!!!! now if I can just teach my cameras how to afford me that type of traveling nomadic lifestyle that for me would check all the boxes,, hey guys thanks for sharing, great content, peace and much luv.
I need to travel back to Shinjuku, the last time it was for vinyl shopping. The canned hot coffee vending machine was the cheat code when it was cold outside
Love Japan, it’s great to see you take your time there, my wife and I have to go back as well one day, but I guess not more than 2 weeks (no time 😩). Thanks for sharing, interesting as well to see how working is going. Enjoy and i look forward to see what’s coming next 😊🙏🏻
100% would like to hear how to stay in japan for longer than 3 months. Easiest route I've found is to either be a student or setup a small business (which involves hiring a couple of native japanese workers)
wow Id love to hear about your experience moving to japan on a longer term basis! It is such a beautiful place and deserves all the praise in the world. I used to visit every year before the pandemic
5:33 watching this from an Osaka Japan AirBNB on my laptop and my back is killing me also after a weekend in tokoy lugging 24 KG of gear trying to tetris my furniture into a better desk.
been going to Arabica everyday here in Kyoto! Went to the Singapore one quite a bit as well to get some work done! Shame they don't have chairs with back support at either locations 🙈
@@JasonVong LOL! Okay, great point. I should have said, "It has Japan's version of a California vibe." It's genuinely an East meets West sort of feel. BTW, I love your content. I have learned much via your videos.
Hi Jason! Wow you are in Japan. Your channel has been a huge help for me. It was interesting to see you talk about Japan. More of that please! I would love to know the mexican spot your friend was talking about though... I will go back to Japan next weekend,,, I am going to say hello if I find you on the street! Lol Have a great time there.
I think Pat Kay is going through that now trying to get a long-term Visa, but from Australia. Great plan to continue traveling another year, and then a longer term stay. Looking forward to seeing your adventures out there!
Last time I checked the requirement for permanent residence was 10 years under normal circumstances, think hard before you commit to these things since it's going to usually take a large part of your life in terms of opportunity cost.
The coffees in Japan are addictive 😅. You can also get canned soups from the vending machines. They aren’t too bad. If your friend has a good a Mexican joint please post. I’ve found some that are ok but none are like CALI Mexican.
Do you think a payout wish list is a good way to support digital nomading? It's where you can make a wish list and when someone buys you something you receive the money. For instance, if you were to add $20 shoes and someone bought them for you then you would receive the full $20. I made this for my friend to use to help fundraise for her travels. I was wondering if you think that other people would use this.
Hey Jason. Thanks for the informative video. My girlfriend and I are digital nomads as well and we plan to be in Japan for 3 months coming up soon. We just left Thailand, and are currently in Taiwan for 3 months. Unfortunately, we don't have iPhone 14's so eSim is not an option. Are there phone plans we can purchase for unlimited GB's? We tend to hotspot a lot when there is poor internet. We'll be in Osaka for our first month! Thank you!
Hi Jason, I know that you're a digital nomad. But, I think I would love an episode of Vong Opinion on the best lens for studio camera (for video). Anyway, stay safe and healthy in Japan.
Good morning Jason! I was raised in Mexico and somehow I know about this Mexican restaurant in Japan (they opened another branch in Mexico but with Japanese food instead), it’s called Mexi-Pon! You should try it out before you leave Japan!
You should come to Yokosuka while you're in Japan because there's some decent Mexican food down here. It won't compare to Cali and the menu is on the smaller side, but it's pretty good.
Whilst you're still there, could you give a bit of a review on ubigi? All the prepaid multi-country sim cards I've used have had huge latency issues. Was wondering if you could let us know what kind of pings you're experiencing in Japan with ubigi.
What a timely video XD Just today I have found plane tickets in a normal price (taking inflation and longer route from EU in account of course) and will be doing my digital nomad 3 months in March-May 2023. Not my first time tho, before C and excluding 1 year when I actually worked and lived there, I have been spending about 2 months each year there since 2013. One bad thing is that I can not take advantage of current USD-JPY exchange rate XD
@@JasonVong It will only leave you wanting more ...or hating it, either of those two 😆 If my job hunt turns out successful it might turn to 3 or more years for me, not holding my breath tho... going back to lighter topics, here is a pro tip: cosplay photography is a great way to meet some awesome people. Happy to go back to it after a long... involuntary.. break 😅 Enjoy your time there to the fullest👍

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. May I ask how old both of you are? I think being a foreigner with a traditional job and low language skill would be pretty hard to live in Japan for a couple of years. But since both of you are digital nomads, Japan sounds like an awesome place to stay! Been in Tokio once and it impressed me, one of my favourite cities. Thanks for your for awesome work. I’ll watch any videos u guys make! 😂
