I’m a second year MSW student. All these feminist values, principles and practices are being taught as generalist values, principles, and practices, not distinctly “feminist” or apart from the social work norm. It’s reassuring to know feminist social work is quite literally just social work.

Honestly men do suffer a lot of acceptance it's not all about females just saying it's true

After reviewing this video, I am fascinated about the topic. The counselling strives to build a society free of vlence, inequality, discrimination and exploitation. It was clearly brought out the use of critical questioning and gentle prompting helps to raise conscousness. I saw all females in the videos, where do men fit into this picture?

This is so odd to me...it seems like, at 5:56, the counselor is fixated on the effect of the problem, but not the core or the root that caused the anxiety to begin with. No questions about what may have brought up the anxious feelings in general but, the focus is all on the feeling. Even the question caused the patient to immediately sigh... (So, you think that you're here because you're crazy?) I would have lost my mind if I was paying a therapist to state the obvious and ask questions completely off the mark...like really?

These are all general qualities and skills for mediators and therapist. These skills don't make you a feminist. Only when you begin to impose your corrupt political view that every women is oppressed and a victim of a patriarchy, do you then become a feminist.

I am in health care taking courses in counseling. I appreciate the video and learned a lot. I would feel more included if there was wider racial diversity portrayed in the providers and clients. I feels like it was made for the 80% or so of the counselors who are white women.

'Service User' is an impersonal mechanistic term that should be excised from the script and counseling language, but otherwise this has been an affecting video

Seriously..what's the difference between this and normal counsellors

    • @gaz312
      @gaz312 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Normal counsellors usually work on person centred techniques where the counsellor co-facilitates the client to explore their own issues and solutions that's individual to their equally individual problems as an individual. Feminist Counselling is about feminism and educating/brain washing them in their feminist ideology. As stated one of their main beliefs is "The personal is political" which assumes whatever you is personal to you is political if it's not they'll turn it that way because that when it comes to your problems that personal is political. Normal counselling helps the individual, Feminist Counselling brain washes women into their feminist ideology and politicizes their problems for their own agenda which can be very damaging.

Agreed, this is so misleading when they ay that the feminist counselling differs from mainstream counseling and the outlines the exact things ALL counselling utilizes.

You have just proven my point thank you.
If you have any knowledge of psychotherapy you will know how wrong, horrible and damaging feminist counselling is .
Your reaction shows you have not studied it as your criticising me for they’re own claims.
Feminist council if is about feminism and “educating” the client on feminist ideology.
It’s their claim what’s lol about that?
They also claim “the person is political” & that all their problems are political and that their problems are “a result of a patriarchal society and the solution is to “get them involved in political activism”
These are facts. These are their claims in their counselling theory.
Saying that’s it’s “Not True” and calling people stupid shows you haven’t studied Feminist Counselling theory or you’re lying both of which are not very clever things to do.
Carl Rodgers would be spinning in his grave if he saw this sexist cult parading this as counselling. You’ve taken his theories and mixed them with a misandrist extremist political system and used it to manipulate vulnerable women.
The examples in this video literally show the practitioner project her ideas and beliefs onto the client.
Something that is unacceptable in a counselling session.
My education doesn’t just come from college/university.
      Which it should.
Why would anybody want a psychotherapist who was unqualified and unexperienced What a stupid thing to say.
It comes from years of experience and education and actually reading the the books etc written by people like Rodgers, Adler, Freud, Jung etc etc studying and understanding them.
And it’s safe to say outside of woke college/uni classes and feminist sexist cults feminist counselling is considered to be one of the most alarming and disturbing practices to come out of the counselling realm in a long time.

Sadly I don't think so. I read about feminist counselling in one of my work books and it was not to dissimilar to this. Very alarming.

Although I’m not in agreement with your statement, the vid does have a voice of humor that I think was probably unintentional. I think it’s trying to just be positive and focus on possibility in a time where we really need positivity in our lives.

I think this approach comes at the client with a political perspective and is sexist and damaging.
      I stated everything is political.
It certainly is not and it’s wrong to twist the clients problems to political.
It seems to assume the cause of their problems as being men and solution is political activism against all men even before they’ve met the client and heard anything about them.
It also tells any men that any problems they’re having in their lives is due to them being an oppressive male.
Imagine being a victim of domestic abuse from a female partner and be told it’s your fault because your male.
You’d probably put yourself on the same level as his abuser.
Imagine that if your on the verge of suicide and looking for help.
      Not good.
The problem could be anything and the solution could be anything.
It certainly doesn’t seem to meet the three core conditions of counselling.
I definitely wouldn’t class it as person centred.
I doesn’t seem to fit in any of the main approaches.
      And probably for good reason.
You can’t say you know what a person’s problems are or what the solution is without first psychoanalysing them over a period of time.
The person to do this I believe is the client themselves. Often nobody knows them better than they do.
Through this whole example the “counsellor” is heavily dictating her beliefs onto the client. What her issues are, the reason and the solutions.
Paying no attention to client at all.
I think even the Freudian approach is more person centred than a lot imagine.
You certainly can’t decide that for them before you’ve even heard of them.
It seems more like a technique to brain wash exploit vulnerable women for their anti male agenda and should have no place in the counselling profession.
It is truly alarming and sickening that anything like this can even be entertained in the counselling profession.
