I got an mk4 Jetta wagon with an Alh tdi , I use it for family road trips and it’s the best ! I stack miles on it all summer and through the year . People break their necks hearing this little tractor clatter through town . I leave it idling cooling down infront of the hotel and people give me thumbs up all the time . I love my alh !!!
@@EngineInnovator It's been a good car - amazing on the highway. This last two years it needed a new timing belt and sadly, a clutch. Just had the injection pump resealed. I hope it has no more major needs for a while. It runs nice.
I have a golf mk4 with the ALH engine i've been driving it for 7 years now and only needs a oil change and timing chain but its hard to find in good condition the cars are too rusty, old and not good take care now days, pretty reliable .
Glad to hear it’s been treating you well! You’re right that they’re tough to find in good condition these days? How many miles (or kilometers) do you have on your golf? Thanks for watching!!
@@EngineInnovator My golf has almost hit 400,000 kilometers. VW doesn't produce such as good as the 1.9 tdi these days, in my opinion its the last most reliable engine.
Unfortunately, we don’t get the cool stuff over on this side of the pond. That’s a big bump in power from the factory over the ALH variant. Thanks for watching!
@@vukmitrovic687 all 1.9 tdi engines were shipped with cast internals, but some dealers had shops that could rebuild your engine. Stock cast 1.9 tdi pistons can withstand 160hp.
@@EngineInnovator the ALH and ARL are the coolest engines you can have in europe, the ALH is a legend of its own.. I personally have a AXR 74kw chip-tuned to 96kW in my 2002 golf mk4 and it RIPS, so much fun even when it's FWD
I have two, both 130 bhp, both mapped 170, one on 265k- one clutch 2003,other 180k- not touched 2001,both serviced ever 8k, and return 55 mpg, pull like a train and use every day. Try match a carbon foot print like this with an electric car!
What car came with ALH in 130 BHP config? Are you sure they're not PD 130? If so they're a totally different engine. I've only heard of them coming in 90 and 110 BHP.
Of course its an extremely reliable engine it comes from the best era for most vehicles that is the 1990s to the early 2000s after all there is another diesel engine from Germany that is the Mercedes-Benz OM617 engine but if you look at modern Volkswagen's and Mercedes-Benz they have totally lost the plot when it comes reliability and l actually own a vehicle with an extremely reliable engine it is a 1997 Toyota Hilux with the ultra reliable 22R engine and of course its comes from the 1990s although my Hilux has only done 439000 kilometres and there are many modern vehicles that will not reach that amount of kilometres but there are many modern vehicles that will reach that goal of over 400000 kilometres like Toyota Mazda Honda Lexus Suzuki and Mahindra
Thanks for the feedback! The Volkswagen AG does share a lot of engines and development research between brands for obvious reasons. I don't think this particular power-train was ever available in an Audi in the NA market - which is a shame! Thanks for watching!!
Most people replace them every 100k miles and if you purchase a belt from a reputable brand premature failures are very rare. You’re right that they can cause lots of damage if they fail. Regular maintenance is key! Thanks for watching!!
Hey @r11tc do you know if those engine codes correlate to any of the NA offered engines? VW has made some amazing engines over the years, for sure. Thanks for watching!!

I own one. Only 145k miles. Hope to keep it a while longer.

I heard it had forged pistons and forged connecting rods (the ARL 150hp model)
