Very very close, but the Buick edges out the win
There was a 1968 Buick for sale last year in the next county. I want to kick myself so bad for not selling everything to buy it.
The Pontiac 455 wasn't a Big Block. They used the same engine block from 1955 on starting with the 287.
BUICK 👍👌🇺🇸
Would like to own one - a used one
All...but gimme that 442.
LOVE ALL GM BIG BLOCKS!!!!! ITS SO SAD THEY ARE NOT MADE TODAY. THESE ENGINES ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE OVERLY COMPLEX OHC V8S AND V6S OF TODAY. TODAYS OHC V8S AND V6S ARE TO EXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN AND REPAIR AND ARE NOT AS RELIABLE FOR THE LONG TERM!!!!!!!
Different badges but each 455
The Pontiac 455 wasn't a true GM big block. It's based on the 400ci small block
All pontiac blocks are small blocks, so there's that.
My friend owned a W30 with 411 gears and it was very fast…
You forgot the Cougar Boss 429.
Thanks for the comment! It wasn’t forgotten, I’ve got another future video planned that will discuss it. So between that and its ultra rarity, I decided to leave it out. The Eliminator with the Boss 302 is much more common and definitely deserved to be put side by side with the Mustang in this one. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
It’s like comparing Superman to Clark Kent!!! It’s the same.
The Olds 442 gets my pick. The best looking one i think. Sadly the 443 model with the Olds Hemi beast was cancelled. that would have been the car to watch. Only 2 of those hemis was built. how cruel lol
My dad had a 70 Buick Riviera with a 455 I got it to drive to Highschool in 1980. Flipped the Air Cleaner and that old boat smoked a few Camaro's and Mustangs easily from the late 70s and early 80 Smog cars. Nothing to brag about but it was for me from 80 to 82 in Highschool. I miss that old Buick.
over the last 50 years I have owned 5 Buick GS 455's, including one true Stage 1, I owned 1 1970 w30 442, 6- 400 firebirds and 1 455 HO trans am. also challengers, mustangs, and the odd AMX 401big bad. my money will always be on the Buick
we can't get Astronauts back from the International Space Station that's a short 250miles above the ground in 2024/2025 and you actually think we go on and back off the moon that's 238,900 miles away? give me a break
Didnt the buick have most torque? In W30 stage 2 version
I have a Pontiac 71 455 HO in my 70 GTO and I love it ..
It's safe to say all muscle car era car horsepower ratings were "light" The Stage 2 Buick would be hard to beat stock. All 3 would look sweet in my gari!
No body could touch my tempest
The 455 Pontiac block is no larger physically than their 301 block
455 ROCKET ......
Wasn't the 1969 corvette aluminum 427 engine car the fastest quarter mile car at 12.1 seconds. 2nd place was ford cobra with 427 at 12.2 seconds in quarter mile
Not interested in electric bullshit.
I am a Pontiac guy but I love the yellow Oldsmobile.
I'd be willing to bet that the W30 was actually closer to 425 HP and with just a set of headers / drag slicks, could break into the high mid to high 12s with the 3.42 gear.
Big block power. You can't beat it. Put modern transmission with more than four gears in it, yeah. You'll shave a off a couple of seconds. Need to do one on the 8.1 liter Cadillac's. Couch on wheels but good God Almighty, the torque was ridiculous.
The Judge didnt have a 455 in '70. You had a choice between a RAIII or RAIV 400. In '71 which they keep mixing up here less than 400 were produced before being discontinued mid year.
In 1975 Cadillac has a 500 cubic engine with 400 hp and 550 ft lbs of torque. Wake up and smell the roses. That was the big dog and the king of all v8 engines produced.
And to add insult to injury to Olds & Buick) in 1973 my dad ordered a Grand Prix SJ with the 455 SD, posi and boy did I have fun with that!
A neighbor of mine when I was younger had a new 1969 GTO judge that speed shifting 1 to 2 he could pull the wheels,by the way it was orange with the ram air.
No conclusion. Clickbait alert.
Cadillac had the highest torque rating in 1970
Buick. Pontiac is gonna pump all the oil up top and throw a rod. Olds is just heavy as hell…..
So Buick skylark was the car to beat
All 3 are beautiful and awesome cars, I'd love to have either one of them, but if i had to choose. I'd choose the Oldsmobile 4-4-2. Im an Olds guy for sure!
Had a friend back around 86’ who bought a 70’ GS Stage 1 from a customer at the fu service gas station he worked at. Guy was just stopping to get gas. Perfect car. Column shift auto, bench seat, black w/tan interior. Paid $1800! Car was an absolute beast out of the hole. Raced another guy who had a 65’ Vette convertible 396 4sp. Vette got a car link on the hole shot (friend wasn’t a good driver) but we ended up getting to his side (about 1/8 miles) before we had to slow down for the next red light. Guys in the Vette looked over and asked, what kind of Cutlass is that? I said it’s a Buick. A Buick!, the guys replied. We all went HD together. Keep in mind that the Vette was a factory Z16-425hp car. And it wasn’t stock. Both cars would be worth a ton of $ today! Especially that Vette.
I have a 79 trans am,came with an olds 403 (automatic), block cracked and I replaced with an olds 455, fit right in, just a little taller, but it’s faster and sounds mean!
I like em all, because I got them all,70 GS,442,GTO, plus the 70 Chevelle
The 2jzgte comes factory with forged pistons, so no the 3sgte is not a better engine.
Naturally the Buick I always had love affair with Buick the quality is always been top notch the Buick with smoke all of them they always kept the best of you and always
Too bad Pontiac never put the R/A IV package on the 455 until after government mandates for emissions had killed compression ratios.
The Buick 455
The Buick all day
In 90 GM began putting Chevy engines in all it's cars. So NHRA Manufacturer Championships Olds 8 Buick 0 Pontiac 0 K?
For anyone wanting solid advice go read books from these time periods and other sources of information from this time period.... over the time these written words all changed when brought to the internet and to many people posting comments who never even lived during these times... strong 💪 advice from a OLDSMOBILE MAN setting the records straight and right.....😮
The El Dorado became the Section 8 housing of cars in the 80’s
Never heard it put that way before but you’re right. Absolutely terrible. Thanks for watching!
poor chevy 454 does not make the club?
Buick always had terrible marketing. They had the GS for years, then the Grand National, and people still think its an old mans car...
