Log and flat profiles are designed for video, for colour grading, as raw video is still not widely used. So they change the tone curve in order to elevate the midtones by 2-3 stops to not underexpose them in compressed footage. The black and white points do not change thiugh. So when you shoot Real time LUT with VLOG as your base profile, the image looks like it is properly exposed on the monitor, but you can see the Luminance spot meter reading that it is actually pretty underexposed. That is what reflects on your RAW file. You might want to raise the midtones in curves rather than raising the exposure, as that will not alter the black and white points, giving you a more accurate result.
That makes so much sense! Thank you for this comment. I think I didn't realize that the base profile would have any effect on the RAW file since I thought RAWs are entirely unprocessed but it makes sense that it's applying a tonal curve to compensate for compression on an uncompressed file! That explains exactly what I've noticed since when I brought up the exposure at 3:52 I noticed that the plant pot and the background sort of blend together since I was changing the white point with this method. Raising the mid-tones would definitely be the way to go. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge on here.
@@jackjvkd I didn't understood very well, still making tests. Is there a way to make a diferent Photo Style for Video and one for photos? Because everytime i change the Photo Style, it is applied in both modes. I don't understand why the camera has two modes if they only function together.
WHAT..... that is obviously the biggest UI flaw I have encountered. I just ruined a whole shoot for me. V-Log I so made for video, I did not expect that color-profile to affect my pictures when I went to RAW stills shooting ESPECIALLY since the preview looked ok, and was properly exposed. This is a gigantic flaw from Panasonics side, and has left me second guessing my choice of hybrid cam. Its a disgrace
Today I took photos with the white balance in a very critical situation of continuous blue light, and when I saw the photo in the camera, it looked perfect, however, when importing the raw in software, the photo is blue again, so much so that The adjustment does not allow me to return it to normal color...
I had this same issue last weekend. Would be cool if there was an option to lock the color style to natural for pictures and real time lut for video. If you're a hybrid shooter like us it's annoying to do and easy to forget. But luckily it's quite easy to recover the raw files, although the noise level is quite a bit higher in the shadows, because of the shorter exposure time, compared to a properly exposed raw picture.

Thanks for this explanation! I got my S5ii yesterday and have been trying to figure out what the heck is happening to my raws.

There is actually a way to do that using the custom modes! I’m planning to make a video about that.
