Probably a little late but well... With your first finger. It hovers over the D string and kills it - simply do not lay your 1st finger flat but fret only the 5 fret on the A string :)

In the Live Kawasaki version, I saw John play the main riff (the 14g, 13b, 12,15e etc.) partially with tap harmonics. Wonder if he did this on the recording or if this was just a one-time live thing. It sounds cool anyway. But this is a great lesson nonetheless!
