I had it done as well and to keep me from having the headache I had to stay and lay on my back for 2 hours before they released me and I had no headaches.
Mine was done for iih diagnosis. It was an emergency lp done in er. They did it within 20 mins of me entering the er. Idk why mine went so badly but it was the most painful thing ive ever had done in my entire life & it was sharp, stabbing, searing, aching pain and i screamed bloody murder when they did it. I screamed " mother fu**er " out and ive never screamed during a medical procedure before. The next day i was in excrutiaing pain & i could barely walk. My entire lower back was very stiff and my whole bqck kept spasming and locking up. I was crying all day long. Ive had back surgery before and this was 100% more painful than recovery from my surgery. I ended up in er 2 days after the lp bc i could barely walk & so much pain. They did mri on my spine & it showed no internal bleeding but abnormal spine results. Ended up at a neurosurgeon and diagnosed with multiple bulging discs, annulear tears, stenosis, etc. Then like 3 days later i notice my lp site is a weird numb sensation and i reakized i have a big swolleb lump there. It hurts. Went back to er and abother mri done. Now being sent back to neurosurgeon. I have NO idea what happened.
Hi Sara! I'm so sorry that you experienced a painful LP and had health challenges after the procedure. Oh, my goodness, it sounds like you are having a rough time. I'm glad you can follow up with your healthcare team to get the support you need. I'm sending you positivity and a hug. How are you doing now?
My pleasure! I hope your MRI goes well and you get the answers you need to move forward in your health journey. I’m sending you prayers and a virtual hug! 🙏🏾❤️
I had the procedure done yesterday. Afterwards, they forced me to lie on my stomach for two hours and then on my back for 8 hours. I was not allowed to use a pillow. I was told that people get up too quickly after the procedure and does not give their bodies time to heal (puncture wound to close and CSF to regenerate or something like that) after the 8 hours I was asked to still keep quiet for as long as I can. This morning, I got up and had no side effects or headache or anything like that. Felt a little pressure at the puncture site but nothing major.
Hi! Thank you for sharing! I agree. Listening and following the aftercare instructions is essential to ensure safety and the body heals. You listened and took care of yourself and your health. I'm so glad you had nothing major but some pressure at the puncture site.
Thanks for the all the information. So I had one question. My daughter got it done and it’s been 3 days, she only want to lay down only . Will she recover from the headaches or do I had to take her back and get it check. Seems like everything she do , she just want to be down only. It worries me .
Thank you for your video. As I’m watching your video right now I’m also suffering from that headache and severe stiff neck like I can’t get up. I can only lay flat on my back 😅
Thank you so much you are seriously such a sweetheart I'm sending you prayers and hugs I appreciate you making this video you explained it so wonderfully I'm going to be having that procedure next week and I'm terrified I have a migraine disorder and my pain is 8-9 lately it started off between 4 and 9 but lately it's been straight 8-9 pain every day all day I feel like I'm losing my mind so I have to have this procedure and hopes to find some answers My neurologist is really worried about me doing this procedure because he's terrified that it's going to make my 24/7 migraine worse I'm hoping it won't
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words and watching my video. I’m sorry you are experiencing painful migraines. The Lumbar Puncture procedure does not take too long. I hope your procedure goes well! Have a self-care plan in place after you take your exam. Get plenty of rest and relax. I hope the procedure helps you find out the some answers too! I’m sending you positivity and a hug! 🤗❤️
Hi Jo Jo! Thank you for watching! I was very scared. I’m so thankful that my doctor knew what he was doing. I did not have any complications after my lumbar puncture. Yes, thank you! 🙂
@@sierrachairston Hi thankyou for replying. I have a date at the end of the month to see a neurologist. I'm scared for what I might find out. My walking isn't so good, I get numbness in my arm and I get in pain when I'm cold. These are just a few symptoms I get. Thankyou for replying.
Hi Jo Jo! Okay, I’m glad you have an appointment with the neurologist at the end of this month. I understand. It can be an uneasy feeling waiting to see your neurologist. But, once you attend your appointment you will be more informed and be closer to finding out what is you going on with your body. The healthcare team will be able to assist you with managing your care. Sending you positivity and a hug! I hope you feel better. ❤️
@sierrachairston it went well, it was pretty painful and lasted about 30 minutes, while they were extracting the fluid I felt my blood pressure go down and was on the brink of passing out still trying to keep my posture they used lidocaine to numb the area and when they pulled that needle out that was the worst , but my partner was there to comfort me and he was very supportive however the aftercare was absolutely terrible, I did have a minor headache, but the worst back pain in my life, I stayed in bed for half a week because the pain was too much, and I had a really hard time walking, it wasn't a great experience, but I'm glad it's over. 😅 thank you
Hi! I understand. The pressure of the needle being pulled out of the back is the worst pain. I'm glad your partner comforted and supported you during your LP. The back pain is real; I agree! I'm happy it's over for you, too. 🙂
Hi! Thank you for sharing! I’m sorry you experienced those symptoms; I can’t imagine what you went through. The first time I had a lumbar puncture procedure, I was in a full MS relapse, so I had pain everywhere. In my second lumbar puncture procedure, I had a severe headache for over a week. It took me about one month to recover because my pressure was elevated, and excess CSF had to be drained, which, in return, I had to build back up my CSF.
Very educational.Thank you for sharing!
Hi Sharonda! I’m glad this video was helpful! Thank you for watching!🙂
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You explained it better than anyone I have heard so far. I will be having the procedure soon.
You are so welcome! I hope your lumbar puncture goes well! 🙂

It helped to hold the nurses hand. Don’t try to look, it’s like getting an injection don’t watch or jump.
I'm glad your nurse held your hand. My nurse gently hugged me and ensured I remained as still as possible. You're right; don't try to look!
