That was the failure, could you postulate as to what caused it? Resistors don't tend to do this sort of thing without a reason. From its value I presume that was a current sensing resistor in the Source circuit of the power mosfet. True? So was it faulty from the start (during manufacture) or was it destroyed by an unusually strong (and long) current pulse?
When I turn on my xbox360, orange turn into red light immediately, xbox360 light makes click noise but doesn't start, I know my xbox360 is working, cause I checked it with another supply

So does anyone know if when I cut the cord I will just have 3 feed wires? And are both of the outer ground terminals actually grounds? The other models of psu seem to have a turn on feed (blue) which you connect to the hot 5v red. They have 4 different wires.

The sparks could be seen flying in the resistor before you zoomed in on it. Amazing, but what causes the resistor to fail this way? Very recently I had to replace a dimmable led light bulb that died very suddenly and smelt like something burnt inside. I am not using it with a dimmer. Even though it is well inside the warranty limit I opened it to see what had happened. I found an ic chip DX3580T with missing pin/leg #3 which according to a datasheet is: SW Drain pin of the internal LV MOSFET. It looked like it had burnt and there was no visible trace of it and the plastic(?) casing of the chip was missing a piece next to pin #3. There were 3 failed film capacitors (2 split open and the insides oozing out) and 2 large resistors open (1 had a piece of the coating broken off). There were more damages to components on the PCB, to many to count here. There was a large amount of thermal paste covering the capacitors and resistors. The thermal paste was in contact with wires from both resistors which were installed virtually vertical. My question is, can thermal paste conduct electricity and cause this damage?
yes dear, it was also a great surprise for me to catch the sparking moment of a smd power resistor. it is a common failure in power resistors, specially in carbon film resistors, with compare to the wirewound resistors, the carbon film or carbon composition resistors are less rigid. DX3580T is a common LED driver chip and with a single spike with a slighter high amplitude can damage it permanently. as the SW pin 3 in this ic is the Drain pin of the internal power mosfet. if it is damaged that means that the internal mosfet is destroyed. it may damage from many reasons, 1. poor EMI filter 2. feedback failure 3. overload condition at driving end
