      Australia still is an independent country. The constitutional monarchy arrangement is one between the Australian goverment and the House of Windsor, not the Australian goverment and the British goverment.
      The way the arrangement works is that the UK and Australia are two separate nations with two separate governments but share the same constitutional monarch.
      And the constitutional monarchy doesn't actually hold legislative power anymore, and instead remains for mostly ceremonial purposes, such as the ceremonial oath shown in the video.
      If the UK held a referendum and voted to end the British monarchy, King Charles would still be the constitutional monarch of Australia.

      @jamesclarke2789 I bring it up because I believe in democracy and not monarchy at any level. Regardless of the ceremonial nature, personally, I can't stand privileges earned by birth. I see the same "reasoning" for monarchy in most western Europe. I dont believe in "bending my knees for privileged few." That is just me. Appreciate your explanation.

    • @jamesclarke2789
      @jamesclarke2789 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arungore2797 I generally agree with your view on democracy and monarchy. My first comment wasn't really an endorsement of the constitutional monarchy, just an explanation as it seems that many people don't seem to understand the crucial differences between the British goverment and the House of Windsor.
      My view is that the constitutional monarchy in Australia is an outdated relic of Australia's past and doesn't really represent or reflect modern Australia, as a country moving into the future, and its increasingly multicultural population.
      My own self and my family being an example as my Japanese mother doesn't have any actual cultural or traditional ties to the House of Windsor, or the UK as a matter of fact.
      Plus, I know that many people from a place like India perceive Australia as largely 'White Anglo Saxon British/English' because of the ancestorial and language ties, but from the perspective of most white people born in Australia, Britain still is a foreign country, with foreign people and with only modest cultural connections to Australia.
      The fact that there are shared ancestorial and language links doesn't change the fact that the UK is still seen by many white Australians as a faraway country halfway across the world, with decreasing economic, cultural and political relevancy to modern Australia.
      That sentiment tends to extend to topics like the constitutional monarchy.
