- Episode 9 of Evantures.
During my 6 months in Iqaluit I've tried out almost all there is to offer in terms of restaurants. Enjoy my personal favourites.
Note (I still have not tried out wing night at the legion and storehouse)
Let's go - บันเทิง
I always imagined that perishable food would be nearly impossible to come by in a place like Iqaluit. Never did I imagine you could find poutine, shawarma, pizza, and fresh sandwiches. I gotta visit Nunavut one of these days.
This video made me realize how expensive Vancouver is. I usually pay around $12-14 for a large Shawarma in the city so I was expecting yours to be at least $30... but $18!?!?!? Damn. I need to get out of this ridiculous city. Lol
Wow that does seem pretty steep!! Covered in gold??
Yeah the high rent prices in Vancouver make living there expensive so the business owners charge an arm n a leg just to get by.
Precisely what he said. Foreign buyers buy up the houses but don't live in them, which means less money circulating in the local economy. So the people who do live here have to pay more to make up for it. Also the nice weather and beautiful scenery are large factors too.
@@U4rikSoundin Ottawa the rent isn't terrible considering. Wait maybe it is bad...
@@Evanturesrents and mortgages are expensive here
Evan, since I live in Iqaluit, I'd like to be ur guest in youtube, since I am a local here who can speak the language and tell u lil bit about the inuit culture here
Oh shit nvm u moved🤣
Great shawarma spot. Always visit Yummy when I’m in Iqaluit
Love your videos! I've always wanted to visit Iqaluit. Keep it up :)
thanks Dru!
Thanks very much for sharing.
Yummy shawarma is my favourite.
MORE!!! haha XD that pizza looked bomb!
theres some good pizza in the Arctic I've gotta say...
I used to Fly through Iqaluit when heading north to work, never got the chance to stop and actually check out the town
Gotta say the language looks beautiful. Like script wise. Respect.
Great reviews! I like that you thanked all of your servers! Are restaurants closed there because of Covid? If so, are they managing to serve take out? Can you do a video about the impact of the pandemic there? Thanks
They have been closed for a week and a half... (Even though Nunavut has no recorded cases of Covid 19)
Still takeout though! Next upload will be the changes
cheers
@@Evantures is there a Walmart in iqauit
When it's that damn cold outside, I bet all of that food and the coffee taste so much better.
So true 💯
interesting clip at 0:48 :)
Have you tried the poutine at yummy shawarma
Shawarma in Northern area yayyyyyg
Hello Evan you didn’t price a beer how much for a cut just want to know from nunavik
🇨🇦❄️❤️

😂 funniest Easter egg
Same prices as where I live 2000 kilometers away, but I always knew I was being shafted. Pulled the uno reverse card on government, though, didn't have a child.
Where does the water usually get filled up? Is all the water potable up there? Why are you unable to refill the jugs yourself & why was refilling at the shawarma shop considered a lucky break? Thanks
Water pipes often freeze if you are on the utilidor, and if you get water delivered to your house, they take it to the tank beside your house.
Bonjour,
Merci d'avance
I'm very curious to know what is the night life like in iqualuit? bands/ karaoke
I'll do a video on that for sure! great local talent (and karaoke)
@@Evantures You have not been here when things were normal. Im not sure you should do a video on that.
Hookers?
I am dairy free and gluten free. Are there many options there for that? Do rotational workers bring in a lot of their own food to accommodate for things like this?
You dont want to try that here. And rotational workers often have food allowances or bring up to 50 pounds of luggage, so if they can bring stuff in, they do.
also be safe
When i worked in a small rural BC town they had the best pizza ever. Weird where the best pizza is. Not the big cities that's for sure
Couldn’t agree more 😅🍕
Prices are not that bad considering the stupid amount it costs for food up there
For sure. I'll do a video on the cost of groceries!
@@Evantures I'd like to see how one can eat on a budget in Iqaluit so this would be very helpful. Have you ever been to the KFC? I'd like to also see a video on it.
Do people there mostly speak their local language or English?
It's been so cold
can i get and live there
Looks nice man
But ill stick to warm tropical cali Colombia
I’d love to check out Columbia some day!
Is there a Walmart in iqaluit

Any leads on local native cuisine?
You can sometimes get a caribou or musk ox burger at the Aqsarnit Hotel, but other than that you pretty much just have to ask a local. It’s called “country food” here, and is usually raw seal, whale, caribou, and Arctic Char.
-50 is very very cold
Wait, isn't alcohol illegal there?
Dependent on where within Nunavut you are. I gave it a quick google and apparently each one decides if they want that community dry or not and it appears that 6 are. Seems interesting and I might want to give the place a visit some day… especially for that delicious food they have
‘twould have been better if you used sisqo’s “thong song” for the background music.
Is yummy shawarma halal?
Yes
No Love for The Nav, Frob and the Snack......
I want to teach there, yeah. Will you recommend a school and can you provide an email address? Please.
Did you need to ask from the community to make TH-cam videos?
Population is around 8k
I know that your a grad four teacher
Are you Even
Poutine...forgot you are Canadian. Not a fan of poutine.
Yea not for everyone 😅
Based on this video, it appears that Iqaluit is 98% white.
It’s not, wtf are you talking about?
