I woke up in the middle of the night, could not sleep, popped open the laptop and saw the Mets signed Correa - it was like i was hallucinating - like i was in the Twilight Zone -- huh? wha? -- i was actually overwhelmed by this out of nowhere deal - they need to build a Steve Cohen statue at Citi Field - I will bow to it when i attend games!
I saw this news this morning and I couldn't believe what I was reading. I thought it was a joke. That statue would be niceeeeee!!!

I was watching BSPN last night and i kept seeing on the ticker something about Correa had backed out of a deal with the Giants because of the medical and had signed elsewhere. I kept missing who he signed with but i didnt bother paying attention to the ticker because in my wildest dreams i could not possibly see it being the Mets. So i go to bed at about 3am and decide to check TH-cam on my phone to see what was going on and as i scroll down i see "Correa signs with Mets". I stared at my phone and reread it like two or three times. I jumped online to look around to see what the hell was going on and it was true. I was absolutely shocked. Stunned. Unreal.

I do like the older format with more divisional games but this new schedule will show just how tough the NL East is. These divisional games will be very intense, playoff level series.

Mets never got the chance. DeGrom wanted out. He agreed to the contract a day or two before Eppler even learned he had accepted it. It hurts, because I love Jake and what he did for us, but he wanted out and there was no chance we could have kept him. The upside? It poked the Steve Cohen bear. Mets have a better team and likely a better rotation top-to-bottom DESPITE losing the best pitcher in baseball. Think about that.

@Chris Nalina Agree that he wanted out, but when he is healthy, he is the most dominant pitcher since Pedro in 99-00. He was injured, which is why he didnt win the cy young in 21, but he surely would have if he had played enough games. By every metric he was unstoppable when healthy. Add up his numbers over his last 35 starts for a full season and tell me he wouldn't have had one of the most amazing seasons ever.

I will even say that the Mets are a better team today without him AND that our 23 rotation could be even better top to botttom. But he was our guy, and he did some amazing things, and could have done more. And yes, based on his performance, when healthy he was the best pitcher since Pedro in 99. Will he still be that guy? Who knows? But based on what he DID do, I am surprised any Met fan wasn't devastated when he left. I will continue to root for him and I wish him well.

What am I missing? Correa is a good player, but his 2022 stats are far from a superstar. Also, kinda sad that the Mets have become an evil empire with a team of overpaid mercenaries, but I guess that is how modern baseball works.

The postseason is really where the monies at, and many players can't perform under the bright lights or in the postseason and are being paid lots of money.
