If you had done your research you’d know the dolls were NOT based off siblings or their image, only given the first names of the handler siblings and that’s it. the Barbie dolls full name according to Mattel is Barbra Millicent Roberts & the Ken doll is Kenneth Sean Carson. The dolls were NOT at all modeled or “based” off the handler siblings image.
well, I've always loved Barbie. I played with so many Barbie dolls (although some of them I wanted and couldn't have it because of their prices :/) I watched all of the Barbie movies. And i still love Barbie!! Nothing can change that.
Tbh I think some of barbie’s controversies were taken way out of proportion. Talking Barbie said “math class is tough”, not “ugh I hate math class”. Tbh it *IS* tough aha. Like any other class can be. Pregnant Midge in the happy family line sounds like a fun addition for a kid to play house with their barbies if they wanted to.

"Meanwhile, Blaine has pretty much disappeared." Not true. He's a major character in The Most Popular Girls in School. 😂 In all seriousness, now I wonder if giving Blaine this name in MPGIS was actually intentional, or just a massive coincidence. 🤔
@@calmingme01 Oh, I’m referring to a TH-cam series called The Most Popular Girls in School (MPGIS) featuring Barbie dolls in stop-motion. Blaine is the name of one of the main characters. I was just making a joke 😂
I "inherited" a very valuable collection of barbies in the early 1960s from my older sister's friend, who was dying to shed her childhood and get right to the real thing so was jettisoning her toys and dolls. All the clothes were incredible, there were hundreds of dresses and shoes, coats, hats, etc., so much so, that I started designing and sewing even more clothes for them and gained a lifelong fascination with style, and how transformative clothes and accessories were for even hard plastic faces (like today! Kardashians, anyone?). My only regret is that I gave away the whole set up when I was 14, giving away thousands and thousands in valuable collectible barbies and their gear without realizing it, but it was so great to thrill our little neighbors and see them busy creating lives for the now old dolls, who held up very well.
My grandparents got me into Barbie as a young girl. Giving them to me for birthday and Christmas. My favorite memory with my grandpa is him taking me to go get a Barbie pool for all my Barbies even. My step father ended up giving them all away one day when I was in school in the 3rd grade. I went to my grandparents house a couple years ago after my grandpa passed and I found one of my old Barbies. She lives now with me in my office. She’s a small part of my childhood that I treasure so much.
@@KittyMcFlame because Ken is supposed to have been Barbie's boyfriend And seeing as their names were inspired by the creator's son and daughter Do you consider that normal??
Well hopefully Barbie remains what it is today. My sister was quite a Barbie fan from when she was a kid, even I played with her with the Barbie’s at times though I was into other things.
I had a Growing Up Skipper doll. When you turned her arm clockwise she would grow breast and turned her arm counterclockwise she would go back to having a flat chest. Barbie’s sister Skipper was one of those dolls that could confuse an eight year old on how breast are developed.
I had her too!! When she had boobs her arm was always stuck straight up like she was saluting storms troopers, so I left her breastless most of the time, plus I had to have one preteen doll for my story lines around ken, midge and so on ...
Barbie’s origin may be controversial, and a lot of the dolls too… But Barbie made my childhood, helped me dream and create stories, was my friend through all of it! I will cherish that forever ❤️❤️❤️
@@pilardavg they did! She's actually how I already knew Barbie was from the Midwest! She's Barbie's vintage childhood friend, she's even black and white when she shows up, and a running gag is that she's not fully articulated so she can't bend her elbows or close her hands 🤣
dude, all she said was math class is tough. She didn't say math class is tough for me. She didn't say math class is tough for girls. She said math class is tough.
Barbie and Ken were Named After Ruth's kids, Not "Based off" Ruth's kids. And they were given different last names. Barbie Roberts and Ken Carson, So its pretty obvious the dolls were not meant to be siblings. If you want to get technical, Barbie was Based off a doll made from a adult comic, Billid Lilly.
Thank you! She only named the doll Barbie as the first name because she saw her daughter Barbara only had paper dolls or baby dolls to play with and that’s about it.
I remember the pregnant barbie I didn't see that weird since it had an interesting idea of what a family looks like and young girls love to play house so it was interesting. and parents always complaining of everything they make of toys which is ridiculous and annoying.
I had a Midge doll, in fact I still have her in a box somewhere. She was my favorite Barbie because she was always the mom in the family. I never thought of her as a teenager. Yes, the removable stomach and baby are weird as an adult, but as a child I was just excited that I could play Barbie’s as having a family complete with dad (Ken), daughter (Kelly), baby, and mom (Midge).
While the "math is hard" and books that say "don’t eat" were bad choices, among others, I never understood the doll shape controversy. While I do appreciate introducing Barbies of different ethnicities and abilities, the whole "irrealistic proportions" outrage just baffled me. She’s a doll.
This is the funniest list ever! I never heard of any of these entries… and I’m glad about it. I played with Barbie until I hit my teenage years and never looked back. It was an expensive time and way too shallow
The creator of Barbie probably ended her relationship with her kids after making their doll counterparts a couple. Like they could have said, "Mother, you've caused us so much trauma in our sibling relationship that we can't even look at each other anymore... and what, for DOLLS?"
The dolls are NOT actually toy counterparts of the handler siblings, she only used their first names and gave the dolls different middle and last names as well As different images. The Ken and Barbie dolls aren’t designed at all to be the handler kids. Ruth used their first names and that’s about it. which honestly there’s thousands of people running around this country with the names Barbie and Ken.
And no, the handler children remained close to Ruth until Ken died & Ruth’s death. They didn’t like their first names were used for the dolls, but they loved their mother and stood by her. it’s said that Ken was a rather big asshole about the fact that the Ken doll didn’t have genitals, but he didn’t hate his mother if you read about them. The handler kids were only Ruth’s inspiration to create a 3D doll cause she saw Barbara only had paper dolls or baby dolls to play with & that’s why she named the doll Barbie….not because the doll is supposed to be her cause the doll is not supposed to be the image of Barbara handler at all.
Barbie is smaller now than she was when I was a little girl. My grandmother made some beautiful clothes for my Barbies, I mean they were fabulous. She gave me the clothes before she died and I bought dolls for them. They don’t fit. So frustrating. And the quality of the doll is not what is used to be either.
@ about 12:40 in the video, there's a unique sculpture of what appears to be a near-naked woman sitting in a chair. Had to do a double take to see if was real or not.
My defense for the pregnant barbie is there could be kids who had parents who were hving another baby and the doll could be a way to see what the mom is going through. Since kids started playing with the dolls, they always took care of them like babies. They fed them a bottle, changed their diapers, played house, etc. Why is pregnant barbie any different. I won’t lie, the full process is kind of creepy, but the representation or depiction isn’t.

Make people especially younger children understand that people might be in a wheelchair or have a disability. It is great to see that reflected in barbie today.
