One of my biggest reasons for not leaving the Twin Cities, besides family, is that it is like living in a National Park. Sure we don't have mountains, but there are lakes, rivers, bluffs, and waterfalls with a multitude of trees, plants and wildlife. Many lakes and much of the riverfront are publicly accessible park land, with walking, biking, and hiking trails. These areas are beautiful regardless of season. I've been in a lot of other cities in the U.S.A. and few of them seem to have the natural beauty of living in Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Been born and raised by my mom and our family since 98. Minnesota is and will forever be my home and even my mom has had that talk with me one day saying “one day you don’t want to have a house anymore here else?” And I was like “maybe but this is my home state and I don’t plan to leave even as an adult” but the fact that this state can be chill to live in (no pun intended) and we have nothing HUGE in terms of reasons to visit but you are totally write about the food people here make HELLA tasty foods. That and I would say we have some good areas too in terms of walking and sight seeing. And the history center is nice too. But personally my favorite thing about this state is is quite literally in the upper middle of the country next to the Canadian border. So in terms of safety it makes me happy and comfy

The midwest is not for wimps...Do not want to contend with alligators, lots of bugs, hurricanes, dry desert weather with high heat...I'm a Norwegian and like the brisk weather of the midwest..I get energized just hiking, snowshoeing, sledding or just walking in the snow....I'm like you, I sweat easily... My body is adapted to this weather...When temps are quite cold-before going out make this....Hot cocoa with cinnamon, cloves, ginger and cardamon, a little bit of pepper also...these spices warm your body. Try it, it works..Left MN and moved to Wisconsin, to a small town...Like it...

Hey fellow Minnesotan. As someone getting free college here, I can not complain. I lived in KCMO before here and there are nothing but pros for me. MO was way too hot and I didn't like that in the summer. The bugs are massive there as well. It gets so humid. MN summers are way nicer. MN & MO look very similar, but MN takes way better care of our parks. It isn't common in MN to see trash everywhere and needles in the parks like in KC. I also like how I got paid way more living here as the jobs pay better than in MO. Lastly, when it does snow MN obviously takes care of it quickly unlike in MO where the roads stay slick when it snows on occasion as they don't have the manpower to deal with it.

My whole life has been in northern climates. I was born in Chicago and moved to Detroit at the age of 5. I lived there for another 9 years before being shipped to Minnesota, where my dad lived (and passed away) 44 years later. I'm still here; this is home!! Sometimes, the summer weather gets to me because it gets uncomfortably ( high humidity) hot even though I am still an athlete 3-4 months is about all the heat that I can stand. This is a beautiful place to live, and always have been. There are lots of jobs here so don't be fooled by some of these so-called homeless situations, some are self-inflicted with drug use, criminals that are fugitives from justice hiding, illegal immigrants, etc... but most of this kind of activity is in parts of Minneapolis, in Stpaul, they have been forced to move out. There is all kinds of help for people that WANT the HELP!! but if you are healthy with no disabilities then you are expected to WORK or train for work. Our parks, lakes, and recreation centers are well-kept and used regularly ( tax dollars). Rents are going up just like anywhere else in the US, but with lots of jobs, some people just grab a part-time to off-set the cost of living. As far as the winter months, I save indoor chores for these months, like modifying ( or accessorizing) my e-scooters, e-bikes, and motorcycles, I am also a huge Vikings, Twolves, Gophers, and Lynx. time goes fast here because there are many things to do all year round. People from the outside complain about the winters, technology has changed with heated hats, gloves, jackets, sox, etc😁 I would recommend for a vehicle to have at least 2. (AWD or 4-wheel drive to handle the snow, and a city car) for the spring summer, and fall.

Lifelong Minnesotan, born and raised here. Walz is the worst governor I've seen in my 65 years. He spends our money like it grows on trees, he failed to return a 19 billion dollar tax surplus to Minnesotan citizens, many financial scandals under his watch, his handling of the Floyd riots was a fail, he changed our state flag, etc. etc. In addition to our horrible governor, driving on ice and snow in the winter can be dangerous. Other than those negatives, I love pretty much everything else about our state.

I hate being cold all the time. I hate when it snows cause the roads gets unsafe to drive. I hate I can’t grow my favorite perennial fruits and veggies all year round compare to warmer states. You’re so limited in what you grow in MN. You spend way more money in MN than warmer states. I just want to save money and grow my own food. My regret is living here way too long. Minnesota is the best state for outdoor hot tubs - especially in January when the water meets the cold air creates steam. The cold makes for great sleep which is healthy. Those who say it’s warm season only 3 months is a lie! You get at least 8 good months of leisure outdoor weather. The penalty living here is Dec-Jan-Feb but trust me, earthquakes, massive fires, mud slides, and hurricanes are a bigger penalty & don’t exist here.

I lived in MN for 45 years. I moved across the border to Wisconsin and it’s like a different world. Minnesota is pretty unfriendly honestly. I had neighbors and they never talked to me. People were rude. Moving here has been lovely. I know my neighbors and it’s just easy to live here. The DMV is not a shit show like in MN. I can pay for my tabs at the grocery store! They actually plow the damn roads here too unlike in MN where they don’t want to ruin the environment so they are ok with people getting in accidents. The cost of living is similar but it’s the way of life that is better in Wisconsin. Wish I would have moved here sooner. When I have to go back to Minnesota, I dread it. Too many “income restricted” housing developments. NOT section 8 just income restricted. This leaves the working class with limited options for housing if they fall out of their income requirements. Even if you make $100 more a year than their requirements you can’t live there.
I’m all for affordable housing but these are expensive even for me who doesn’t qualify so who are they really helping? I’m working class paycheck to paycheck and am stuck in rougher neighborhoods with more crime because those properties dominate the nicer areas. I’m sure the state is chipping in and subsidizing these apartments.

As a lifelong mn resident unless you are in a profession making 100k+ a year, plan on never owning a home or living in a crime riddled area or out in the boonies with an hour plus commute.
Fr, you need to make at minimum 19k to be above the poverty line in mn. We also have the 5th highest state tax.
The minimum wage is still only 11.50, and yes, certain cities raised that, but it's not going up or changing fast enough.
Finding a 2 bedroom apartment is at a minimum 2500 a month, not including utilities.
Please do more research than watching this video. A lot of this mans points seem ill researched and/biased.
Like the war one. We are a border state and have seen a surge of illegal crossings in the last 10 years.
Coupled with at least 7 military bases.
This state also made it a crime to defend yourself in a home invasion.
I could do more reasons like the failing school system or how the cities Minneapolis, st paul, Rochester, and dulth controll the state or how our governor got sued for staying in a mansion in one of thee most expensive towns after his house burned downed.
Or how our government would waste 2 weeks passing laws about abortion of which has been enshrined in our states constitution since the early 80s if memory servers.
Actually if your a vote blue no matter who crowd this place is probably paradise.
This state is always 5 years way from being California.

On a separate note, mn has a lot of brownouts in summer less than 30 minutes outside of the twin cities due to how we get power and my states "green" views aka shutting down coal power plants and refusing to build anything but wind and solar which lose massive efficiency in winter same with electric cars and hybrids.
California already told people in the dead of summer to not charge their cars. Can't imagine being told that in the dead of winter here in mn.
