    It's funny how Anti-Chef is ostensibly a cooking show, yet really it's just 30 minutes where we all enjoy spending time watching a warm funny guy with a big personality, who just happens to be amusingly fumbling his way through a recipe at the time.

    What I love about Anti-Chef is that you went from a guy who couldn’t cook, to a guy that is more experienced than most home cooks and you accomplished it through practice, perseverance, and failure. This channel gives me confidence to try new things and to fail and to try again. Chef-to-be here! (Currently in culinary school, already an experienced home cook and working as a kitchen assistant)
      It is as Gustave says in Ratatouille: "Anyone can cook". All you need is the desire to cook and the will to learn. Start with one recipe, get good at it, and then build your repertoire from there. Along the way you'll learn the techniques and how different ingredients play together, and you'll get more comfortable in the kitchen. Heck, you might even start developing recipes of your own. That just kinda happens naturally when you get to a certain point. That's the journey we've all seen Jamie undergo, and anyone can do it if they take the time and resources they can to do so. :)

    • @ellenw391
      @ellenw391 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AvengerofGallifrey I was about to reply, but you did it far more eloquently. As I've told friends, if you can read, you can cook! Yeah, some things take time, and when you get the hang of it, what fun it is to create your own recipes (minus baking, although I consider tweaking cakes into perfection almost the same LOL).

    • @AvengerofGallifrey
      @AvengerofGallifrey หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ellenw391 Thanks! Yeah, all it is is reading, watching videos, and then trying stuff out for yourself. Of course, it's ideal to have someone more experienced teach you (both of my parents, my mum's mum, and my dad's dad are all big influences on my cooking because they taught me the basics), but you can easily figure it all out on your own if you just start with one recipe and build from there. And besides, everyone's got to eat anyway, so why not learn how to make it as best you can?

      @@Y2KNW Ok first, baking is not cooking. Baking is an exact science, and most definitely not a starting point. I'd suggest a roast chicken. They are super hard to screw up. You could do nothing but throw it in the oven, give it 20 min a lb at 350, (usually just over an hour for a reg size bird, longer for a big roaster) and it would still be delish. But I'd suggest washing the cavity, season with salt and pepper inside and out, sprinkle with the spices of your taste buds (can't go wrong with garlic powder, onion powder, and if you want to up it slice up garlic and put under the skin). Halfway in baste with the juices in the pan (put em in a spoon and pour over the top. If inspired, do it again 15 or 20 min later. I dare you to tell me you tried what I said and failed. Bonus tip. If you really want to get fancy, buy a whole lemon. Rinse. Roll on counter, cut in half and stick inside the cavity before baking. Dare ya!! You can roast some potatoes at the same time, even in the same pan. No fail easy peasy dinner

    I'm such a super fan, but have never commented. I'm a Pastry Chef, and I'm always like...if it didn't work the first time (obviously) then do it again after taking notes! Then if it doesn't work after that, do it again. Then there still is some tweaking to do so again do the recipe. After that, just do it again to do it. aaand so on and so forth. Many times I will do 4 tastings before I get an item on the menu, and that's after taking each component on the plate and R&Ding each recipes 4-8 times! Most chefs dream of having their own space; and for many of us that means a commissary kitchen. With industrial equipment, greywater disposal, and walk-in fridge/freezer space. I'm so so happy for you with this studio in MANHATTAN. So smart, and in the long run, you will be spending LESS TIME working, and more time with your new family. I discovered you when remaking a recipe from Ottolenghi’s PLENTY. An absolute delight. At 75 I downsized, which meant it was time to part with a substantial collection of cookbooks. My rule was “if I do not have at least four recipes from a cookbook out it goes”. With your show (I am now 84) I have been purchasing used copies of books that I once owned. I still have my original The Art of French Cooking (which cost $10 at the time and quite extravagant). Once again I have The French Laundry, Bouchon, White Heat, etc. Watching you is the experience I had when first discovering Julia Child on “educational” PBS station. By watching her I saw what “ribbon” meant. Watching you, and acknowledging the sometimes confusing instructions, I am embracing again, cookbooks that are old and now new again. It has been fun.

    This may have already been said and/or asked, but is your studio in the same building where you live? Incredibly convenient if it is! The layout seems identical to the previous kitchen in your apartment. So happy for you on both fronts, professional and personal! There’s nothing like becoming a parent! I wish you and your beautiful bride all the happiness in the world. Sounds like your theme song should start with, “Life is good!” 💖

    Congratulations! I've always wondered how the dynamics of a relationship work in a New York apartment with filming, work, and personal life all happening in one space. With the baby on the way, this is the perfect time to separate filming from your personal space and reserve it for your growing family. You know what they say "happy wife, happy life" or "happy spouse, peaceful house". Looking forward to the future.

    Congratulations! Finally Jamie can just get Chromeo from a shelf instead of storing it in the underworld and having to summon it via dark rituals every time. I think the only thing I'll miss about the old kitchen is that the new one looks just a little too clean and sterile- though I'm sure that will stop once you get to cooking haha

    Never commented, but have loved your "experiment" for years now. A former line cook, who doesn't miss the intensity/insanity of a pro kitchen, watching ANTI-CHEF is a breath of fresh and fun air - but with commitment. It's like watching an old friend making me food and yammering away and . . . just a lot of fun. Thanks and best of luck moving forward in the new adventure and most of all - Congratulations on "The Little Dude" who'll change the game even further! Rock on, man!

    Jamie, you have no idea how much fun and joy you bring to me and my husband every single episode. When I first found you on the tubes, I was hooked. Shortly thereafter I played one of your videos when my husband came into the room.....and from that point on we started binge watching for hours on end. That was over a year ago and we have not missed one episode since then. You've entertained and amazed at every turn! The most amazing thing is your unwillingness to quit, no matter how massive the failure! You just keep on plowing forward.....and now your skill levels have grown massively. SO.....congratulations on your new kitchen studio! And HUGE congrats on the upcoming addition to your family! Love and cherish Christie and the new baby that's on the way. You've been greatly blessed. And never stop cooking! I can hardly wait until next week when you cook your first dish in your bright, new kitchen! God bless!
