    I thought Jericho was kinda over the hill but still decent.
    NOPE!!!!
    He showed he's still an absolute general in the ring and so good at being a heel

      He is such a great heel. My family was supporting Jericho during the first minutes of the match, but once he started to act like a dick they were rooting for Omega (even if they didn't know too much about him)

      Jericho's post-match conference also showed off his intelligent heel side.

    To all the people who are shocked that Naito lost and you feel it was the wrong the decision, you haven't been following his story through and through. Naitos whole goal was to main event Tokyo Dome, which that opportunity was stripped from him a few years ago. He has already won the Heavyweight Championship, it's not like he never did. Once he won the G127 and the final card order was set for WK12... his story had already came full circle. He got his main event slot.
    What most people also missed because most don't speak Japanese, That scene where Naito was walking away with a smile on his face... It was because of what Okada said on the mic. "Naito, main eventing the Tokyo Dome is pretty cool, eh?" As naito walks away with a smile. New Japan keeps their top talent on top of the mountain, Naitos story is now complete, this is storytelling at its best. Even in defeat, Naito accomplished what he set out to do.

      Still, Naito winning would be sweet.

      i hope he would have another match at Dominion and that time he will reclaim his IWGP Heavyweight Champion

    • @solomonexe3268
      @solomonexe3268 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      André Pinheiro It definitely would have been a breath of fresh air. I was rooting for Naito but Okada winning still made sense. Expect Okada to hold the championship for another year I presume.

    • @codenamecadet

      Solomon Another year would be overkill. Okada will drop the title somewhere around Dominion.

      That would require probably a draw in the finals of the G1 Climax. Followed possibly by a tie breaker at King of Pro Wrestling that ends in a double KO or some other finish that isn't considered cheap, but results in no clear winner forcing an unprecedented double contract for the Tokyo Dome.

    This was my fourth Wrestle Kingdom (although I only watched the three matches aired on AXS TV last year), but my very first live NJPW event and it was well worth staying up from midnight until sunrise. That pace of non-stop matches is a refreshing change of pace from watching a live WWE PPV. I'd definitely agree that Jericho/Omega was my match of the night. I'd put the Fatal Four-Way second on my list too. Love junior division action, but there was a gravitas and tension that took Alpha vs. Omega to another level. Plus, it really was kind of both a relief and really exciting to see Jericho perform at that level in his twilight years. His runs in WWE have been good, but his last few WrestleMania matches have fallen just a little short of expectations. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if this goes down as Jericho's best supercard (or WrestleMania/Wrestle Kingdom-level card) match in any promotion.

    • @RyuSensei42
      @RyuSensei42 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple. Naito fell back on his pre-LIJ move set. That is why he lost. He must now purify himself of the Stardust Genius if he is to be worthy of the championship. Sounds like a good year long story arc to me.

    One thing that makes me think that the main event wasn't just overprotecting of Okada is that it took Okada 3 tries to beat Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom. It took Omega 3 tries to beat Okada in a singles match. With many of these big, important moments, it comes on the third try. So next time these two face off at Wrestle Kingdom, Naito will probably go over. Plus, the title hasn't changed hands at Wrestle Kingdom in over 7 years, so it's not like an unlikely retention is exclusive to Okada. Oh, and a few times in the match, Naito lost control when he attempted the Stardust Press, so if Naito never tries to do that move and stays tranquilo, he can beat Okada.

    I don't watch enough NJPW to know if it happens often, but did anyone notice how towards the end of the match the No DQ rules kinda reverted with the multiple rope breaks. I know the ref started a ten count earlier in the match as well, but that didn't bother me so much. Them using creative ways to get out of holds had me entertained and on the edge of my seat. Once the ropes became relevant it took me out of the moment and that's part of a "WWE" match I could have done without. Otherwise it was a stellar match from two fantastic pro wrestlers.
    Edit: Referring to Alpha vs Omega match.

    That's right, there's a very rich story in that main event. People are saying shit about Gedo because they're used to WWE kind of crap. This is long term booking at its best.
    Naito couldn't do it in his Stardust Genius persona. He was rejected by the fans and betrayed by the company. He lost the main event spot and lost to Okada at WK8. Then he reivented himself (hey Andrade) as the Ingobernable and turned the table. Now he is tranquilo and can do stuff. He win over the fans. He manages to win the G1 again and is finally facing Okada for the belt at the main event of the Dome, it's his chance of redemption.
    BUT, on the other hand, Okada is on the most legendary title reign ever, filled with spetacular matches. After 3 years he finally dethroned Tanahashi as the Ace of the company and marked his territory by being the best there is. The undisputed IWGP Heavyweight Champion now building his own Tokyo Dome winning streak, he has that to surpass Tanahashi in it yet.
    We're finally in the match. As Naito can finally reach the top, he gets nervous. He partially comes back to his Stardust Genius persona, the failed babyface that dreamed so much on main eventing the Dome. He attempts the Stardust Press even, and misses. When he finally have Okada beat in that third Destino, he is not tranquilo, he wants to hit another one to guarantee his victory. That's what the old Naito would do. That was his mistake. By lifting up Okada he gives him a shot for the Ace, and Okada don't let it go. He sees the oportunity and hits another Rainmaker for the win.
    My shot is that, by continuing the CHAOS vs LIJ feud, Naito is eventually challenging Okada once again at Dominion. Here's where he should actually get things done. Naito has such history with the Osaka crowd. They rejected him, and they hugged the new Naito. There's where Naito is going to be tranquilo again and finally beat Okada for the belt. And yet the story won't be over: what is Okada going to do then? What's the main event of WK13's gonna be?
    That's why NJPW is the best. Storytelling and in-ring quality at its FINEST.

    I think this is even better for Naito. Naito using stardust press could have only one meaning and that is that the Tranquila Naito has still to overcome Stardust Genious. And once that happens, only then Naito's redemption will finally be completed. Although i am a little heartbroken but i am stil hopefull that this will turn out to be amazing from Naito's story point of view.
