  • In this video, I am connecting terracotta clay pipe to pvc pipe. Both of the pipes are 3 inch, but the clay pipe has a 0.5 inch wall thickness vs the pvc wall thickness of 0.25 inch. A 3 inch clay to 3 inch pvc coupler steps from 3.5 inches to 4 inches. The coupler that I used was a fernco P1059-33 (amzn.to/2J1daLk). You could also use a no hub coupler for an underground or over ground application like this.

For under slab, 'No-Hub' stainless sleeved couplers is what is required by code, all over Canada and the USA. The coupler you used is not meant for below slab. It should only be used in above ground, unfinished areas that are easily accessible.

Is it 4 inches on the inside diameter or th outside diameter? A 4 inch Terra Cotta pipe should have a 5 inch outside diameter. There is a 4 inch clay to 4 inch PVC available on Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B0009VUOTW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_JAz8DbA3R9079 . You can look around and search 4 inch clay to 3.5 or 3 inch PVC also if you want a smaller trap. I have a link in the description for a 3 inch clay to 3 inch PVC, which is 4 inches to 3.5 inches actual coupler dimensions.

Why having a P-trap main pipe since the toilet, sink, shower will have p-trap also?

Every house should have a “house trap” (minimum 4inch) on the building drain. It helps sewer gas from getting in your house

Also should be lowest cut riser in drain so if drain blocks up it come out of the trap instead of your floor trap in shower or something, it should be outside u der a tap search up org overflow relief gully

Is there a way of connecting internally, instead of rubber pipe connecting from outside, can it be connected inside. The pipe i need to connect is under a brick wall and would be impossible to connect the rubber connection over as i would need to remove bricks

If you connect it internally that would reduce the capacity of the pipe I would think. I'm no plumber but it sounds to me like you may want to call one

what the heck . remove that freaking total house trap-all, each fixture in your house already has traps..out-dated plumbing

This is for a floor drain, so it needs a trap since I don't have a whole house trap. The whole reason I could tell my trap had failed was because I could smell sewer gas in the basement.

@@CoolStuffGuysLike Your floor drain shouldn't connect to the 'poop' sewer. The floor drain should only connect to your weeping tile drainage system (considering its clay and you dont have a sump pump, its probably also tied directly into the cities storm sewer)

@@JSLEnterprises Plenty of places, like mine, don't have storm sewers - they just have ditches for rainwater. If in a flat area, the floor drain can only go one place...

Usually, floor drains go to the city sewer not the storm sewer.
