Just FYI for anyone watching this, picking up a live round but not ejecting the spent case is more often than not a weak extractor spring. The extractor spring can become weakened on any MP5 variant even with one jam. I have found after owning several mp5 variants, is that most - if not all ejection issues are solved with the extractor spring, a new ejector, or rarely a new extractor. All genuine HK parts are easily found online (except for the genuine ejector as of late). Hope this helps anyone if they are having this issue. :) Sorry you had bad luck with yours Strider!
Look at ejection pattern. It was his terrible red dot placement. Half the brass goes straight up like a normal MP5 and the other half straight to the side. Brass was hitting his dot and going back into the action. Dude bashed this company for no reason other than his own stupidity.
@@Zaucey Where else should I mount the red dot if not on the factory provided rail? Mounting a red dot to a factory rail causes failure = stupid consumer. Maybe the gun should not be wildly ejecting straight up.
Idk about you but when I buy a gun, I make sure the irons are on. Did you skip a step and just go straight to optic? I’d like to think normal people would pick up on “it ran great till I put this giant tacky looking optic on this short barrel 9mm”
I got a ptr 9kt. Ran over 1000 rounds through it first week I had it. No issues. Installed a sb tactical brace, AFG, sight tower rail with surefire light and Romeo 5 red dot. Only thing left to get is more mags. I’m sorry about your ptr but I love mine and spoon with it at night lol
I bought one of these online and then I saw this video before I got it and was worried I was in for trouble with it. Fortunately, the one I received runs perfectly. I did the break in procedure with my reloads and didn't have a single issue, I still haven't had a misfire with it even with some subsonics I tried . I have a red dot on it and it's very accurate also. I put a Gearhead works folding tailhook brace on it and it's my favorite of the PDWs that I own. Cheers!
Very disappointing. That makes two expensive US made guns I've bought new that would not run. I was so disgusted I had to make this video. Vetting a replacement PCC now that's doing much better so far--no failures at all, eats any ammo I feed it, supressed or unsuppressed, and about 1/3 the price. Thanks for the comment.
@@strider_sphinx what pcc do recommend, I am working on a stribog, just put new lower on from it Lingle to use scorpion mags, had several failures to eject, however, after doing about 250 rnds it’s starting to work better. A3 tactical has new lowers for bog coming this July. So will try theirs next, but still in the market for a reliable pcc. Thanks.
@@skierdude.244 I’ve had good luck with Stribog in terms of reliability and ammo compatibility, but I got an early SP9A2. Later SP9A2s are partially made with A3 parts while Grand Power was waiting on import approval for A3, and MilitaryArmsChannel has documented those issues. I also had to replace all my mags with the Gen2 with steel lips. Overall the Stribog is a non-recommend also-but if you’ve already got it you can make it run good with some effort and it costs less than half of the PTR 9KT and about 1/4 of what an HK costs. If money was no object I’d get the HK SP5K. For reliability and price, I’d get a Kel-Tec Sub2000
@@strider_sphinx I would love to get the hk, king of the pcc, out of all the research I’ve done the stribog s upper receiver is one of the toughest, like an ak47, I had the steel tipped mags as well, didn’t have any problems with original or steel tipped mags until I started using the suppressor, once the mags got dirty from gun powder residue , started having problems with them. Anyway, just put the new lower on this last week. A3 tactical send me a message, saying to shave the scorpion mags down a bit, and maybe mag catch down a bit, try to get a better alignment. Also considering maybe a different a recoil spring. Plan is to keep working with it, dump ammo through it, hopefully it’ll just break in. That ptr is such a good looking gun, it’s for sale on Atlantic. Shame it has so many problems. If I can’t my bog to work properly, will probably save up and look for that hk. Thanks for your time.
I think most people had good luck with this model. Mine was an early one (serial under 500). I still contend that for $2K it should have worked from day one. It certainly should have after 700 rounds of “break in” and a trip to factory. Had they fixed it, this video wouldn’t exist, even though they’d still be at fault for shipping it not working to start with. If one gun can ship not working and the manufacturer fail to fix it, it’s conceivable it will happen twice or more-and I hope this video keeps anyone else from losing a $1000 on an unreliable clone.
@Strider thanks for the honest review a lot if not all the guntubers won’t show real footage of failures and other ppl online are ashamed of their gun not working so there is a lot of people who are misinformed about certain products. I hope you have or will find something model like this that’s reliable though. Once again I appreciate and respect your honesty!
I’ve got this same gun. Had similar issues at first, but nowhere near as bad as what is going on with yours. I did their recommended break-in, as specified by the manual, and in the 300 rounds, I probably had 10-15 FTEs. They didn’t become less frequent as I shot more, so I sent it back in. They replaced the bolt, extractor, and grip, and it seems to work fine now. Just got it back today, shot about 100 rounds through it, and only had one malfunction, which I’m pretty sure was operator error. It was the first round of the day, and I was using an ETS magazine, which has a different feel to it, and I just don’t think I seated it in the mag well properly. No malfunctions after that one. Hopefully they got it fixed. When it works, it is a really great gun.
Glad to hear yours is OK. Mine wasn't even after going back. Only 2 of the 10 different FMJ ammos I tried after it came back from the factory worked. Loved it when it worked--extremely accurate and low recoil. Just didn't like being restricted to only 2 ball ammos.
I do realize this video is old and early guns always have problems but to say PTR is not recommended from your sample of ONE is not fair. The only reason I commented here is you seem to be the one guy online that does not like PTR. Do you even own other HK roller locks as you NEVER even mention the term bolt gap or what could happen if its out of spec. If fact no one in the comments mentions it. If you are into roller locks a bolt gap gauge is a must have tool. th-cam.com/video/oIBo1eVqvVA/w-d-xo.html No what you have is a lemon I own half near a dozen HK MP5's SP5's, SP5K's, SP89, SP94 and Mp5 parts kits builds and I had a SP5k 2018 date code that had problems similar to this. Point is ANY gun can have a problem especially with these early production guns. I bought a 603 a few months ago to use as a sear host and it runs flawless with steel and brass ammo. I also agree its odd to sell a gun on consignment for a huge loss I mean hell who the heck sells their guns at a gunshop that is the worst place to sell anything... Funny I see more positive comments about this gun than negative. Ive been shooting and collecting for over 30yrs and price or brand does not matter when it comes to getting a lemon. I had SIG, HK or heck any brand where I had to service or fix it from SCAR's to Tavors NO gun is flawless. Heck nowadays you can't give a MKE's or AP5's.
In fairness to the PTR 9KT, none of the short receiver MP5k type guns should be fired with the locking piece that comes in these pistols. Every brand, including HK, comes with a 110* locking piece, which is what the gun should have if it doesn't have a stock or a silencer. Adding a stock or silencer requires an 80* locking piece. Due to the design of the MP5K, using the 110* with a silencer or stock will destroy the receiver. But screw them for screwing you.
Yeah, I was running suppressed, unsupressed, with an arm brace, with a stock--sucked in all configurations! If it needs a different locking piece it should have come with it, and it sure as hell should have been changed when I sent it in for factory service. PTR did neither.
FYI.. the second setting is if you wanted to nfa fully auto it, you can simply drop in a sear and your good to go unlike other imported options, there’s other areas you have to change in order to be law compliant. So with other options, not only do you have to go through the whole nfa process plus their costs then pay about 800 more for other parts that need to be changed in order to function and be law compliant.
Glad yours is working well! I am hopeful future buyers will get a good product. PTR should be ashamed of their failure to reproduce a 50+ year-old design in a way that actually functions. Getting it right on "some examples" or "later manufacture" examples is a failure of the worst kind at this price point and with US manufacturing.
I got one of the early production models. I was not satisfied the performance. Call PTR and they sent me a prepaid shipping label to send it back. They replaced it with another ptr 9kt far later in the production. Did they have some issues? I believe they did. Do they stand behind their products? Absolutely! Not sure why you sold this back to the FFL at a huge loss. Seems odd.

Military Arms Channel yes it does! Especially at this price point! I’ve owned lots of “review worthy items” but this was the first one I felt compelled to actually take the time to review. PTR should be ashamed. Lots of folks are having good luck with later serials on this and I’m glad for them. Mine sucked and it proves what you said in your video on the 9KT-manufacture of these stamped firearms is more complicated that it seems and if one little thing is off the whole thing is garbage!

Strider Same here, I did learn that PTR has made their bolt carriers proprietary....so they claim. I ended up buying a full bolt carrier group from RCM and sent up to TPM Outfitters in Dallas Tx. They spec’d the internals and per Hk they barrel spacing was off by .050” yep fifty thou. So....now my PTR is in spec with both HK and RCM parts. Too bad PTR couldn’t get this part right.
I replaced several springs and pins on mine with genuine HK parts. My gunsmith alerted me that this gun didn't like 115 gr as much as 124gr,,and anything +P. It runs like a sewing machine with PTR mags and ETS mags. Hopefully your next clone work out better for you.
Firing without harness to push out while holding harness holds it in causes an equivalent to limp wristing if you were to shoot a regular pistol. Consider using the harness or get a brace to allow the action counter push and sufficiently cycle correctly
Perhaps not an invalid point. However in this case, recoil was not causing these failures. Poor manufacturing caused the failures. Even without a sling, at over 7 pounds, a 9mm pistol that's over 12-inches long and weight forward will not recoil enough to induce "limp-wristing". Even if I'm wrong there, it's still not the issue here since hundreds of rounds were fired with brace and with sling--you can see quite a bit of shooting with the sling in this video if you watch the whole thing.
The F position on the safety selector does allow for full auto fire by simply dropping in a registered sear pack unlike the MP5 options offered by Zenith.
I figured as much, but have no experience with changing from a semi-auto trigger group to a registered full-auto sear trigger group. Thanks for confirming.
Great review! Hands down! Recently purchased the PTR 9KT, seen your honest review however I believe they fix the issues you have been having or I am just this lucky. I'm sure you know and others know, that in the manual, does state to have a break in period procedure/ I followed the break in period. Did not experience nearly as much issues you have posted. After break in, (Which I followed step by step in owners manual)- I can honestly say this is 95% reliable firearm in my opinion. I have only tired 3 different FMJ, and all 3 brands/grain ran great. After break in- out of 500 rounds- had 2 failure to feed and 1 failure to eject.
A couple of things.... 1 you do know there is a significant break in right? I can't remember if it's 500 or 1000 rounds... 2 not driving it forward with a sling and or the lack of a stock or brace could potentially be causing you to limp wrist it... just food for thought.
It had about 700 rds through it, as I recall, before going to factory, and then another 500 or so. This is from memory, but 700-1200 rds, mostly with an arm brace. Arm brace is not shown in the video since PTR will void warranty for suppressor use and I didn't want anyone thinking the brace somehow messed it up (it couldn't). Even if limp-wristing was possible for a gas operated firearm (it isn't as far as I know), it wouldn't happen for a 7lb 9mm. As I understand it, limp-wristing is caused when a weapon is blowback or recoil operated, and on very light guns, limp-wristing occurs when the shooter's wrist movement uses up too much of the energy meant to cycle the weapon. From what I've learned since posting this video, I could have fixed this gun for about $100 in parts (extractor, extractor spring, and maybe a different locking piece). I wish I'd know enough then to try and fix it, but I should not have had to on a nearly $2000 firearm that also made a trip to the factory. THEY should have put the $100 worth of parts on it that's what it needed. Thanks for the comment and ideas.

I am having the same issues with my 9KT. I cant get more than 3-5 rounds w/o an issue. For the cost of this firearm, its TOTALLY unacceptable. They are sending a return label, however, they are slow in doing so. I will be discussing this with my PTR rep. I cannot recommend or sell this firearm in my shop knowing all of this
Yeah, that was the part that bit the most. I mean here's a 1950's design firearm made of mostly sheet metal and welds, and it costs almost $2K--and doesn't work!!! You can buy a Pietta or Cimmaron clone of a Colt SAA for $500 and it WORKS!!! For $2K, PTR needs to be selling the Colt SAA version of the MP5K! If this was a $300 gun I could see this level of performance--not for $2K.
Enjoyed the video and came here because I'm working through the same issues. Sent 9kt (200s serial) back to PTR after repeated failures to eject. It's better, but still not up to a level that I would call it reliable. Continuing to try and figure out a fix, including feeding it the ammo it seems to like best (nato/124gr +p). Interestingly, switching out the trigger pack makes the problem much worse. With PTR's trigger, I get a failure every 20-50 shots. With the same ammo and a Franklin Armory trigger, it fails every 5-10 shots with the +p, and fails 100% of the time with subsonic ammo. Well past the break-in process and a bit discouraged, but still wanting to make this thing hum given I already filed a form 1 to give it the SBR treatment.
Sorry to hear you're struggling too--especially after a Form 1. Do some research on MP5K locking pieces. Yours has a 110-degree. HK used to put 110 -degree locking pieces in all of theirs K guns and they switched to 100-degree (I'm told). The HK MP5SD uses an 80-degree. The 100-degree may be a better all-around--HK allegedly decided it was. Another thought--the buffer got beat to HELL in my 9KT, which makes me think the bolt is rebounding too fast. I think the locking piece change might slow the action down, but I didn't experiment for myself. I wasn't committed enough to the gun to start changing parts and perhaps engaging a local gunsmith, but with your SBRed, it might be worth it. Good luck! Mine only ran on Federal 115gr Range-Target-Practice and Freedom Munitions 115gr re-mans! None of the expensive stuff I tried would work.
All MP5 models have a break in period of 500 rounds though. MY CT had one malfunction with 115 grain aluminum federal ammo out of 500 rounds. A guy next to me was shooting his MP5KT and also had no issues. Yes the firearm is capable of accepting a full auto sear trigger pack with no modifications to the gun or bolt. Don't grip the magwell, just don't. "it's x amount all old world weapon design, steel with tight tolerances, it should just work" No, that's spoiled gun people talk. Go buy a super expensive 1911 or other race gun and it's going to have issues and reliability issues even with factory ammo. Now you did git a Monday gun. I have gotten Monday guns from Ruger, Springfield, DPMS, Auto Ordinance and ZEV Rock Island etc. Not a single one of those guns got fixed by the factories except the Rock island and they bluntly told be that they destroyed the gun and made a new one with the same serial number because it was so jacked up. I ran Winchester white box, some random assortment of steel cased ammo with some being wolf and tula and Federal brass/Aluminum all in 115 grain.
Glad yours is working well--CTs have no known issues, but lots of KTs do (see comments on this video for just some examples). Maybe you're right, and MP5s only work on NATO ball ammo, and require frequent service by military/LE armorers. If you're OK with paying $2K for that, the PTR 9KT may be the gun for you. I wanted a gun that ran all (or at least half) of the 10 factory ammos I tried in it. It didn't, so I ate a $700 loss and made this video to let other shooters know the gun is not a reliable firearm. If the issue is not poor quality and craftsmanship (which I think it is), then we can at least agree the 9KT definitely isn't for "spoiled gun people" like me who want it to go bang when the trigger is pulled! Think of this video as a warning to all the spoiled gun people who just want guns that are capable of igniting factory ammunition more than 20% of the time.
I'm glad not everyone is getting junk from PTR at this price. Mine had 750+ rounds through it, and a trip back to the factory where PTR gunsmiths could have done anything they wanted to make this gun right. Yet it still only functioned on 2 of 10 factory ammos (some of which were premium ammo). Thanks for the view/comment!
I know they are not using updated ejector levers, the ejector levers I have examined on several of these were of the older design that HK has since updated, and they sat too low in the ejector notch of the bolt to work properly. Also, they sometimes have too large of a bolt/carrier gap, which makes the action harder to open during shooting necessitating hotter ammo. Most people think only the locking piece affects how much energy it takes for HK's to open, but bolt gap affects it as well. The mag wells on many of these put the magazine lips at an upward tilt, rather than almost parallel with the bottom of the bolt, as they should be, and to top it off the KCI mags sit rather high in the gun just because of where KCI puts their latch notch on the mag body, causing the bolt to drag on the mag lips and/or bite into them and damage them. All these things together can combined for failures to eject, or weak ejection with most ammo. You can replace ejectors/rollers/mags to help, but if the mag well itself is too out of spec, there isn't much you can do. Other caliber PTR guns seem to be fine however.
yep I just got a 9ct. Boy what is wrong with the people assembling this gun? Its like they do not use a square and straightedge when they are setting up the workpiece! IM REALLY PISSED OFF and Im going to ask ptr if they can take the gun back and reweld the pic rail and rear sight straight and true! Also, my magazine is cocked to one side and is not straight up and down. For 2100 dollars I expect right angles and perpendicularly positioned components, DAMNIT.
I bought a PTR 9KT and it had a number of problems. It couldn't get a round into the chamber, so I didn't even get to fire it. I returned it, got it back today, and it has all sorts of problems still. I haven't even test fired it yet. They had to break one of the takedown pins to assemble the gun. PTR has proven to me to be a very bad company. This gun is absolute garbage. It would be a ripoff for $400, let alone $1800. Oh and it was made in November of 2020. High serial number. They have NOT figured these guns out. I think there just isn't any ammo so people don't know how bad the guns are yet.
I have issues with my ptr91 if you don’t lean into it while firing it won’t fully cock the hammer so it will extract, eject and load the next round but when you pull the trigger again nothing happens. I think it’s the recoil spring. Maybe yours was something like that.
I really wish the QC and machining was better. PTR has the chance to do something great here. Roller delay can be finicky even when everything is done right let alone when a piece is out of spec.
Feel bad that you got a defective PTR. Had I seen this video prior to purchasing one, i likely would have not bought it. But I’m 2 months in, hundreds or thousands of rounds down the pipe and not so much as a hiccup. Gun runs absolutely flawless. No regrets, no quality issues and likely appears your issue is a Monday or a Friday gun. The weld issues, the quality problems, etc, none of them exist on my PTR 9KT at all. Wish it had last round hold open, but that’s it. If I ever want to get a suppressor, it’s a simple $34 fix. I add an 80 degree locking wedge and I’m able to run whatever I want. Sorry for your issues. That sucks man.
I'm always glad to hear my gun seems to be the exception and that someone else's is problem free. Always loved the MP5 and so disappointed that PTR either could not or would not fix my early example.
I had a few misfeeds at first but followed the Manufactures recommendations as for a shoot and clean. After about 200rds the gun runs like a well-built sewing machine. I also have 2 Zeniths and 1 HK MP5 and put the reliability of the PTR up with these. Like anything else today you may have just got that one that doesn’t want to work. I bought a new 2017 GMC Sierra Denali, after 18K GMC bought it back because of all the problems with that truck and sent me a new 2019. Did you break the gun as recommended by PTR?
Glad yours worked well, and I wish mine was the only one with issues, but it isn't--just look at the comments from other owners on this video. If PTR wants to say they just sent me a bad one and give me a new one, like in your truck example, they had their chance to do that when I sent it back to the factory with detailed documentation of the issues and they sent it back with the same issues. I wish PTR treated me as well as GMC treated you!
I agree 100% with this comment... I bought a Springfield xd45 that miss feds all the time. I bought only because of the good reviews and my dad has the xds which shoots amazing... but my luck I’ve had nothing but issues with the xd I’m actually going to trade it For a 1911 or a glock21 ...
Purchased one last month, it has run flawlessly with PTR polymer mags and HK mags. And Fiocci and Lawman Ball ammo. Haven't tried Hollowpoints yet. Have you tried different mags?
@@reeivaxlondonn8404 Try changing your locking piece to a 80 0r 100 degree one. I bought mine from Rim County Manufacturing for 35 dollars.(rimcountrymfg.com/product/rcm-hk-style-mp5k-9mm-locking-piece-2880-deg/) Also check your locking piece, I have heard that incorrect locking pieces made it into a few of these guns. should be 100 or 110 degree, mine has a 100 degree in it from the factory and I have had zero issues even with my reloads and subsonic ammo. Never heard of any 9CT issues. PTR didn’t indicate to me what they thought the issue was. Notes when they returned gun said “adjusted magwell”, but it still would not run reliably.
I was having the same problem with my PTR 9C. PTR replace the extractor extractor spring and adjusted the mag well. When I got it back it was functioning but it was cramping the end of the spent casings. Needless to say I sold it and purchase of Century Arms AP5. I cannot say enough good things about the AP5 it runs great.
I have a new kt and 700+ rounds later-not one issue. This is my third PTR and never an issue with any of them. Makes me wonder. Just put another 180 rounds down range. Flawless.

My zenith k version did the same thing I sent it back they said it was good still had problems I told them I only used Winchester white box and they said that ammo wasn’t great and it’s a stiff action that needs to be worn in so now 9mm ammo isn’t around to test other rounds I sold it and bought a sp5 I found at my local shop it’s not the k version but it’s a HK mp5 and zenith doesn’t import anymore as well so is a HK worth the loss of a zenith ? I think so
Absolutely! Hate admitting I wasted my money but happy if I can save someone else from making same mistake! To be fair, lots of guys have good luck with their PTRs, but I’m not going to recommend people gamble at this price point. Shame they didn’t fix it even after it went to factory.
I would not. I am pleased that most later guns seem to be good, but I can never recommend a company that cannot/will not fix a brand new $2000 firearm.

Take a good look at that ejection pattern… I’ll bet money that this was all your fault. Notice how it naturally wants to throw brass straight up? And other half of the time it sends brass straight out the side? It’s your scope placement. Brass is bouncing off of your optic and back into the gun. Watch it in slow motion and look closely
I may be wrong about what I’m about to say next… but look at the brass at 22:55. Do you think it rotated out of the chamber like that? Or it went straight up like half of all the other brass, hit the largest part of your dot which just so happens to be positioned in the absolute worst spot possible and bounced back into the action?
Look at the way a normal MP5 ejects brass. They almost always throw brass up at a 10-11 o’clock angle. I wonder how many people didn’t buy a ptr because you couldn’t figure this out.
It wasn't the mags--and if it was, PTR should have sent me new ones. They either could not or would not fix it, and both are unacceptable. For what it's worth, on ammo it liked, it ran well with both the PTR mags and Korean steel mags.

Glad you got yours to work. I had some different mags for it, but it had the problems with all the mags I tried. I did not try oiling them, but I feel like I shouldn't have to--I know I don't have to with any other magazine fed guns I have had.
Would have been a better choice for the pricepoint, for sure! Might get another MP5 one day and just hold out for the HK! It's just an iconic gun for me, and the MP% mags load so much easier than the CZ Scorpion ones.
No--I did not get into trying to repair it. For nearly $2K for a brand new firearm, I had the expectation it would work without needing repairs/replacement parts. I also sent it back to factory and they supposedly fixed it, but it still didn't work when I got it back. If their factory gunsmiths can't or won't fix it, I have no desire to work on it!
yeah, I covered that in video. PRT worked on it, sent it back, had same issues. Sold it back to dealer where I bought it for a heavy loss. I'll never buy a PTR product again. It's bad enough I had to send it in--inexcusable that they didn't fix it!
No....this thing's way to heavy to flip at all, and we shot it with an arm brace, and two-handed with sling tension. I'm not sure it would be possible to limp wrist a roller-delayed firearm as long and heavy as this one.
My god!! What a total hunk of junk… I have heard good reviews on ptr and others that say the gun sucks I have heard good reviews on zenith and others that say there’s is junk… these mp5 knock offs definitely seem to be hit or miss.
I just bought mine and I can’t remove the ETS magazines that came with it by using the magazine lever only the magazine release button allows me to remove the magazine. Has anyone had this problem?
Add a little grease to the cam inside where it engages with the side release. Also a little in the inside magwell on the lever face. Mine was a little rough surface and had the same issue and now it is much more smooth on my ETS mags.
Sorry to hear that--please let me know if yours is right after going to the factory. Mine was still wrong even after a trip to the factory, but still hoping I just got the one gun that couldn't be fixed. I hope yours is right when you get it back.

It worked better, but was still unreliable with 8 of the 10 different FMJ ammos I tried with it after it came back from the factory. Loved it when it worked--extremely accurate and low recoil. Just didn't like being restricted to only 2 ball ammos.
It's contained in the video. I sent it in and it came back with the same issues. Slight improvement, but still wasn't reliable on 80% of ammos used. Sold it for half what I paid, back to the gun shop where I bought it, with full disclosure of the issues and why I was selling it.

And all you have to do is stretch the extractor spring a tiny bit and it's good to go and not even fn will warranty a 4,000 scar if supressed..so I feel you are crying too much about an awesome reliable gun before doing you're homework and by watching you're footage you are holding that weak wristed which with many guns can lead to a malfunction..hold it like a man and you're posture is horr8ble so I can see why you're having issues..so all I'm saying is before you go put a very credited company on blast about some things that very well could be by what I can see operator error, why don't you become educated first before ripping apart a good gun..and 1,800 is really not that much for a clone!

10 different types of factory FMJ ammunition were used in it after it had been to the factory for service and returned to me. 2 of those 10 ammunitions would function in it. See annotation at 12:34. A $2000 firearm should be able to function on more than 20% of factory manufactured FMJ ammunition.
At nearly $2K, break-in shouldn't be required, and it isn't required according to PTR's owners manual provided with the gun. 200rd break in is required according to PTR. With my particular gun, after 750+ rounds AND a trip back to the factory, would not run on 8 out of 10 factory ammos I tried. Unacceptable.
Maybe I'll be better off getting one of the ones from Pakistan lol. PTR sounds like a bunch of idiots....hey let's make a $1800 gun and put a supressor mount on it, but if you use a suppressor it voids the warranty.
If you're buying Pakistani, get an AK! They seem to work better and this PTR 9KT weighs as much as an AK! Thanks for the comment and I agree that PTR's thinking on this is pretty messed up. Now that the HK SP5 is out with threaded and tri-lug options and German quality, these PTRs will be relegated to the junk heap or tinkerers who don't mind finicky guns.
man i wanted this gun so bad until this video. Thanks for posting it. I did reach out to customer support from PTR to confirm the claim that the use of silencers void the warranty and that statement is 100% accurate. Hard pass on PTR. Will wait for Zenith to come back in stock (which may be never).

Just FYI for anyone watching this, picking up a live round but not ejecting the spent case is more often than not a weak extractor spring. The extractor spring can become weakened on any MP5 variant even with one jam. I have found after owning several mp5 variants, is that most - if not all ejection issues are solved with the extractor spring, a new ejector, or rarely a new extractor. All genuine HK parts are easily found online (except for the genuine ejector as of late). Hope this helps anyone if they are having this issue. :) Sorry you had bad luck with yours Strider!
Look at ejection pattern. It was his terrible red dot placement. Half the brass goes straight up like a normal MP5 and the other half straight to the side. Brass was hitting his dot and going back into the action. Dude bashed this company for no reason other than his own stupidity.

I got a ptr 9kt. Ran over 1000 rounds through it first week I had it. No issues. Installed a sb tactical brace, AFG, sight tower rail with surefire light and Romeo 5 red dot. Only thing left to get is more mags. I’m sorry about your ptr but I love mine and spoon with it at night lol

I bought one of these online and then I saw this video before I got it and was worried I was in for trouble with it. Fortunately, the one I received runs perfectly. I did the break in procedure with my reloads and didn't have a single issue, I still haven't had a misfire with it even with some subsonics I tried . I have a red dot on it and it's very accurate also. I put a Gearhead works folding tailhook brace on it and it's my favorite of the PDWs that I own. Cheers!

Very disappointing. That makes two expensive US made guns I've bought new that would not run. I was so disgusted I had to make this video. Vetting a replacement PCC now that's doing much better so far--no failures at all, eats any ammo I feed it, supressed or unsuppressed, and about 1/3 the price. Thanks for the comment.

@@strider_sphinx what pcc do recommend, I am working on a stribog, just put new lower on from it Lingle to use scorpion mags, had several failures to eject, however, after doing about 250 rnds it’s starting to work better. A3 tactical has new lowers for bog coming this July. So will try theirs next, but still in the market for a reliable pcc. Thanks.
@@skierdude.244 I’ve had good luck with Stribog in terms of reliability and ammo compatibility, but I got an early SP9A2. Later SP9A2s are partially made with A3 parts while Grand Power was waiting on import approval for A3, and MilitaryArmsChannel has documented those issues. I also had to replace all my mags with the Gen2 with steel lips.
Overall the Stribog is a non-recommend also-but if you’ve already got it you can make it run good with some effort and it costs less than half of the PTR 9KT and about 1/4 of what an HK costs.
If money was no object I’d get the HK SP5K. For reliability and price, I’d get a Kel-Tec Sub2000
@@strider_sphinx I would love to get the hk, king of the pcc, out of all the research I’ve done the stribog s upper receiver is one of the toughest, like an ak47, I had the steel tipped mags as well, didn’t have any problems with original or steel tipped mags until I started using the suppressor, once the mags got dirty from gun powder residue , started having problems with them. Anyway, just put the new lower on this last week. A3 tactical send me a message, saying to shave the scorpion mags down a bit, and maybe mag catch down a bit, try to get a better alignment. Also considering maybe a different a recoil spring. Plan is to keep working with it, dump ammo through it, hopefully it’ll just break in.
That ptr is such a good looking gun, it’s for sale on Atlantic. Shame it has so many problems. If I can’t my bog to work properly, will probably save up and look for that hk. Thanks for your time.

I think most people had good luck with this model. Mine was an early one (serial under 500).
I still contend that for $2K it should have worked from day one. It certainly should have after 700 rounds of “break in” and a trip to factory.
Had they fixed it, this video wouldn’t exist, even though they’d still be at fault for shipping it not working to start with.
If one gun can ship not working and the manufacturer fail to fix it, it’s conceivable it will happen twice or more-and I hope this video keeps anyone else from losing a $1000 on an unreliable clone.

I’ve got this same gun. Had similar issues at first, but nowhere near as bad as what is going on with yours. I did their recommended break-in, as specified by the manual, and in the 300 rounds, I probably had 10-15 FTEs. They didn’t become less frequent as I shot more, so I sent it back in. They replaced the bolt, extractor, and grip, and it seems to work fine now. Just got it back today, shot about 100 rounds through it, and only had one malfunction, which I’m pretty sure was operator error. It was the first round of the day, and I was using an ETS magazine, which has a different feel to it, and I just don’t think I seated it in the mag well properly. No malfunctions after that one. Hopefully they got it fixed. When it works, it is a really great gun.

Use german mags not Korean and always clean the gun and oil it before you first shoot it no matter how much the gun cost or name brand.
I have the MKE Ap5 and it is very reliable. MKE licensed the tools to build them from H&K. I also paid $1800 for it.
I do realize this video is old and early guns always have problems but to say PTR is not recommended from your sample of ONE is not fair. The only reason I commented here is you seem to be the one guy online that does not like PTR.

No what you have is a lemon I own half near a dozen HK MP5's SP5's, SP5K's, SP89, SP94 and Mp5 parts kits builds and I had a SP5k 2018 date code that had problems similar to this. Point is ANY gun can have a problem especially with these early production guns.
I bought a 603 a few months ago to use as a sear host and it runs flawless with steel and brass ammo. I also agree its odd to sell a gun on consignment for a huge loss I mean hell who the heck sells their guns at a gunshop that is the worst place to sell anything... Funny I see more positive comments about this gun than negative.
Ive been shooting and collecting for over 30yrs and price or brand does not matter when it comes to getting a lemon. I had SIG, HK or heck any brand where I had to service or fix it from SCAR's to Tavors NO gun is flawless. Heck nowadays you can't give a MKE's or AP5's.
In fairness to the PTR 9KT, none of the short receiver MP5k type guns should be fired with the locking piece that comes in these pistols. Every brand, including HK, comes with a 110* locking piece, which is what the gun should have if it doesn't have a stock or a silencer. Adding a stock or silencer requires an 80* locking piece. Due to the design of the MP5K, using the 110* with a silencer or stock will destroy the receiver.
But screw them for screwing you.
Yeah, I was running suppressed, unsupressed, with an arm brace, with a stock--sucked in all configurations! If it needs a different locking piece it should have come with it, and it sure as hell should have been changed when I sent it in for factory service. PTR did neither.
FYI.. the second setting is if you wanted to nfa fully auto it, you can simply drop in a sear and your good to go unlike other imported options, there’s other areas you have to change in order to be law compliant. So with other options, not only do you have to go through the whole nfa process plus their costs then pay about 800 more for other parts that need to be changed in order to function and be law compliant.

Glad yours is working well! I am hopeful future buyers will get a good product. PTR should be ashamed of their failure to reproduce a 50+ year-old design in a way that actually functions. Getting it right on "some examples" or "later manufacture" examples is a failure of the worst kind at this price point and with US manufacturing.
I got one of the early production models. I was not satisfied the performance. Call PTR and they sent me a prepaid shipping label to send it back. They replaced it with another ptr 9kt far later in the production. Did they have some issues? I believe they did. Do they stand behind their products? Absolutely! Not sure why you sold this back to the FFL at a huge loss. Seems odd.
I just got mine a couple weeks ago and it has ran flawlessly so far, shot about 250 rounds out of it so far no malfs

Strider Same here, I did learn that PTR has made their bolt carriers proprietary....so they claim. I ended up buying a full bolt carrier group from RCM and sent up to TPM Outfitters in Dallas Tx. They spec’d the internals and per Hk they barrel spacing was off by .050” yep fifty thou. So....now my PTR is in spec with both HK and RCM parts. Too bad PTR couldn’t get this part right.
I replaced several springs and pins on mine with genuine HK parts. My gunsmith alerted me that this gun didn't like 115 gr as much as 124gr,,and anything +P. It runs like a sewing machine with PTR mags and ETS mags. Hopefully your next clone work out better for you.

Firing without harness to push out while holding harness holds it in causes an equivalent to limp wristing if you were to shoot a regular pistol. Consider using the harness or get a brace to allow the action counter push and sufficiently cycle correctly
Perhaps not an invalid point. However in this case, recoil was not causing these failures. Poor manufacturing caused the failures. Even without a sling, at over 7 pounds, a 9mm pistol that's over 12-inches long and weight forward will not recoil enough to induce "limp-wristing".
Even if I'm wrong there, it's still not the issue here since hundreds of rounds were fired with brace and with sling--you can see quite a bit of shooting with the sling in this video if you watch the whole thing.
Stockless MP5K and clones have a special locking piece to overcome this.
The F position on the safety selector does allow for full auto fire by simply dropping in a registered sear pack unlike the MP5 options offered by Zenith.
I figured as much, but have no experience with changing from a semi-auto trigger group to a registered full-auto sear trigger group. Thanks for confirming.
Great review! Hands down! Recently purchased the PTR 9KT, seen your honest review however I believe they fix the issues you have been having or I am just this lucky. I'm sure you know and others know, that in the manual, does state to have a break in period procedure/ I followed the break in period. Did not experience nearly as much issues you have posted. After break in, (Which I followed step by step in owners manual)- I can honestly say this is 95% reliable firearm in my opinion. I have only tired 3 different FMJ, and all 3 brands/grain ran great. After break in- out of 500 rounds- had 2 failure to feed and 1 failure to eject.

A couple of things.... 1 you do know there is a significant break in right? I can't remember if it's 500 or 1000 rounds...
2 not driving it forward with a sling and or the lack of a stock or brace could potentially be causing you to limp wrist it... just food for thought.
It had about 700 rds through it, as I recall, before going to factory, and then another 500 or so. This is from memory, but 700-1200 rds, mostly with an arm brace. Arm brace is not shown in the video since PTR will void warranty for suppressor use and I didn't want anyone thinking the brace somehow messed it up (it couldn't).
Even if limp-wristing was possible for a gas operated firearm (it isn't as far as I know), it wouldn't happen for a 7lb 9mm. As I understand it, limp-wristing is caused when a weapon is blowback or recoil operated, and on very light guns, limp-wristing occurs when the shooter's wrist movement uses up too much of the energy meant to cycle the weapon.
From what I've learned since posting this video, I could have fixed this gun for about $100 in parts (extractor, extractor spring, and maybe a different locking piece). I wish I'd know enough then to try and fix it, but I should not have had to on a nearly $2000 firearm that also made a trip to the factory. THEY should have put the $100 worth of parts on it that's what it needed.

I am having the same issues with my 9KT. I cant get more than 3-5 rounds w/o an issue. For the cost of this firearm, its TOTALLY unacceptable. They are sending a return label, however, they are slow in doing so. I will be discussing this with my PTR rep. I cannot recommend or sell this firearm in my shop knowing all of this
Yeah, that was the part that bit the most. I mean here's a 1950's design firearm made of mostly sheet metal and welds, and it costs almost $2K--and doesn't work!!!
You can buy a Pietta or Cimmaron clone of a Colt SAA for $500 and it WORKS!!! For $2K, PTR needs to be selling the Colt SAA version of the MP5K!
If this was a $300 gun I could see this level of performance--not for $2K.
Enjoyed the video and came here because I'm working through the same issues. Sent 9kt (200s serial) back to PTR after repeated failures to eject. It's better, but still not up to a level that I would call it reliable. Continuing to try and figure out a fix, including feeding it the ammo it seems to like best (nato/124gr +p). Interestingly, switching out the trigger pack makes the problem much worse. With PTR's trigger, I get a failure every 20-50 shots. With the same ammo and a Franklin Armory trigger, it fails every 5-10 shots with the +p, and fails 100% of the time with subsonic ammo. Well past the break-in process and a bit discouraged, but still wanting to make this thing hum given I already filed a form 1 to give it the SBR treatment.
Sorry to hear you're struggling too--especially after a Form 1. Do some research on MP5K locking pieces. Yours has a 110-degree. HK used to put 110 -degree locking pieces in all of theirs K guns and they switched to 100-degree (I'm told). The HK MP5SD uses an 80-degree. The 100-degree may be a better all-around--HK allegedly decided it was.
Another thought--the buffer got beat to HELL in my 9KT, which makes me think the bolt is rebounding too fast. I think the locking piece change might slow the action down, but I didn't experiment for myself.
I wasn't committed enough to the gun to start changing parts and perhaps engaging a local gunsmith, but with your SBRed, it might be worth it.
Good luck! Mine only ran on Federal 115gr Range-Target-Practice and Freedom Munitions 115gr re-mans! None of the expensive stuff I tried would work.

All MP5 models have a break in period of 500 rounds though. MY CT had one malfunction with 115 grain aluminum federal ammo out of 500 rounds. A guy next to me was shooting his MP5KT and also had no issues. Yes the firearm is capable of accepting a full auto sear trigger pack with no modifications to the gun or bolt. Don't grip the magwell, just don't. "it's x amount all old world weapon design, steel with tight tolerances, it should just work" No, that's spoiled gun people talk. Go buy a super expensive 1911 or other race gun and it's going to have issues and reliability issues even with factory ammo. Now you did git a Monday gun. I have gotten Monday guns from Ruger, Springfield, DPMS, Auto Ordinance and ZEV Rock Island etc. Not a single one of those guns got fixed by the factories except the Rock island and they bluntly told be that they destroyed the gun and made a new one with the same serial number because it was so jacked up. I ran Winchester white box, some random assortment of steel cased ammo with some being wolf and tula and Federal brass/Aluminum all in 115 grain.
Glad yours is working well--CTs have no known issues, but lots of KTs do (see comments on this video for just some examples). Maybe you're right, and MP5s only work on NATO ball ammo, and require frequent service by military/LE armorers. If you're OK with paying $2K for that, the PTR 9KT may be the gun for you.
I wanted a gun that ran all (or at least half) of the 10 factory ammos I tried in it. It didn't, so I ate a $700 loss and made this video to let other shooters know the gun is not a reliable firearm. If the issue is not poor quality and craftsmanship (which I think it is), then we can at least agree the 9KT definitely isn't for "spoiled gun people" like me who want it to go bang when the trigger is pulled!
Think of this video as a warning to all the spoiled gun people who just want guns that are capable of igniting factory ammunition more than 20% of the time.

I would say being an early build it probably has the barrel with too few flutes
I know they are not using updated ejector levers, the ejector levers I have examined on several of these were of the older design that HK has since updated, and they sat too low in the ejector notch of the bolt to work properly. Also, they sometimes have too large of a bolt/carrier gap, which makes the action harder to open during shooting necessitating hotter ammo. Most people think only the locking piece affects how much energy it takes for HK's to open, but bolt gap affects it as well. The mag wells on many of these put the magazine lips at an upward tilt, rather than almost parallel with the bottom of the bolt, as they should be, and to top it off the KCI mags sit rather high in the gun just because of where KCI puts their latch notch on the mag body, causing the bolt to drag on the mag lips and/or bite into them and damage them. All these things together can combined for failures to eject, or weak ejection with most ammo. You can replace ejectors/rollers/mags to help, but if the mag well itself is too out of spec, there isn't much you can do. Other caliber PTR guns seem to be fine however.
Whatever was wrong with mine a trip to the factory couldn't fix it--may have been something wrong with the frame itself (i.e. magwell) as you suggest.
yep I just got a 9ct. Boy what is wrong with the people assembling this gun? Its like they do not use a square and straightedge when they are setting up the workpiece! IM REALLY PISSED OFF and Im going to ask ptr if they can take the gun back and reweld the pic rail and rear sight straight and true! Also, my magazine is cocked to one side and is not straight up and down. For 2100 dollars I expect right angles and perpendicularly positioned components, DAMNIT.

I bought a PTR 9KT and it had a number of problems. It couldn't get a round into the chamber, so I didn't even get to fire it. I returned it, got it back today, and it has all sorts of problems still. I haven't even test fired it yet. They had to break one of the takedown pins to assemble the gun. PTR has proven to me to be a very bad company. This gun is absolute garbage. It would be a ripoff for $400, let alone $1800.
Oh and it was made in November of 2020. High serial number. They have NOT figured these guns out. I think there just isn't any ammo so people don't know how bad the guns are yet.

They keep sending me parts that do not work in the gun that I return. I would reccommend against buying anything from PTR.
I have issues with my ptr91 if you don’t lean into it while firing it won’t fully cock the hammer so it will extract, eject and load the next round but when you pull the trigger again nothing happens. I think it’s the recoil spring. Maybe yours was something like that.
I really wish the QC and machining was better. PTR has the chance to do something great here. Roller delay can be finicky even when everything is done right let alone when a piece is out of spec.
Feel bad that you got a defective PTR. Had I seen this video prior to purchasing one, i likely would have not bought it.
But I’m 2 months in, hundreds or thousands of rounds down the pipe and not so much as a hiccup. Gun runs absolutely flawless.
No regrets, no quality issues and likely appears your issue is a Monday or a Friday gun.
The weld issues, the quality problems, etc, none of them exist on my PTR 9KT at all.
Wish it had last round hold open, but that’s it.
If I ever want to get a suppressor, it’s a simple $34 fix. I add an 80 degree locking wedge and I’m able to run whatever I want.

I'm always glad to hear my gun seems to be the exception and that someone else's is problem free. Always loved the MP5 and so disappointed that PTR either could not or would not fix my early example.
I'm glad I got a Zenith Z5P over the PTR 9KT last April. So far, I've had nothing but joy with the Z5P with over 2000 rounds through the barrel.

I had a few misfeeds at first but followed the Manufactures recommendations as for a shoot and clean.
After about 200rds the gun runs like a well-built sewing machine. I also have 2 Zeniths and 1 HK MP5 and put the reliability of the PTR up with these. Like anything else today you may have just got that one that doesn’t want to work.
I bought a new 2017 GMC Sierra Denali, after 18K GMC bought it back because of all the problems with that truck and sent me a new 2019.
Did you break the gun as recommended by PTR?
Glad yours worked well, and I wish mine was the only one with issues, but it isn't--just look at the comments from other owners on this video.
If PTR wants to say they just sent me a bad one and give me a new one, like in your truck example, they had their chance to do that when I sent it back to the factory with detailed documentation of the issues and they sent it back with the same issues. I wish PTR treated me as well as GMC treated you!
I agree 100% with this comment... I bought a Springfield xd45 that miss feds all the time. I bought only because of the good reviews and my dad has the xds which shoots amazing... but my luck I’ve had nothing but issues with the xd I’m actually going to trade it For a 1911 or a glock21 ...
Purchased one last month, it has run flawlessly with PTR polymer mags and HK mags. And Fiocci and Lawman Ball ammo. Haven't tried Hollowpoints yet. Have you tried different mags?
I tried the PTR mags and Korean metal mags. I'm glad yours is working well--later serial numbers seem to do well (mine was under 500).

@@reeivaxlondonn8404 Try changing your locking piece to a 80 0r 100 degree one. I bought mine from Rim County Manufacturing for 35 dollars.(rimcountrymfg.com/product/rcm-hk-style-mp5k-9mm-locking-piece-2880-deg/) Also check your locking piece, I have heard that incorrect locking pieces made it into a few of these guns. should be 100 or 110 degree, mine has a 100 degree in it from the factory and I have had zero issues even with my reloads and subsonic ammo. What ammo were you running, the bullet seating looks off int he various pictures? Could it be an ammo problem and have you had PTR fix the issues?

Never heard of any 9CT issues. PTR didn’t indicate to me what they thought the issue was. Notes when they returned gun said “adjusted magwell”, but it still would not run reliably.

Yeah. I can get a 7 lb hammer for a lot less-and that’s all this is if it’s unreliable.
I was having the same problem with my PTR 9C. PTR replace the extractor extractor spring and adjusted the mag well. When I got it back it was functioning but it was cramping the end of the spent casings. Needless to say I sold it and purchase of Century Arms AP5. I cannot say enough good things about the AP5 it runs great.
You should make a new review of a newer kt
I would not mind doing that, but I don't want to spend $2000 of my own money just to see if they fixed it on later models.
I have a new kt and 700+ rounds later-not one issue. This is my third PTR and never an issue with any of them. Makes me wonder. Just put another 180 rounds down range. Flawless.

Dude i have a ptr32 and it was doing the same shit. Switched to the plastic mags and it runs flawlessly. Try out different mags.
My zenith k version did the same thing I sent it back they said it was good still had problems I told them I only used Winchester white box and they said that ammo wasn’t great and it’s a stiff action that needs to be worn in so now 9mm ammo isn’t around to test other rounds I sold it and bought a sp5 I found at my local shop it’s not the k version but it’s a HK mp5 and zenith doesn’t import anymore as well so is a HK worth the loss of a zenith ? I think so
Cant go wrong with HK! If I can ever spare the money, the SP5K is high on my list!

Absolutely! Hate admitting I wasted my money but happy if I can save someone else from making same mistake! To be fair, lots of guys have good luck with their PTRs, but I’m not going to recommend people gamble at this price point. Shame they didn’t fix it even after it went to factory.

I would not. I am pleased that most later guns seem to be good, but I can never recommend a company that cannot/will not fix a brand new $2000 firearm.

Take a good look at that ejection pattern… I’ll bet money that this was all your fault. Notice how it naturally wants to throw brass straight up? And other half of the time it sends brass straight out the side? It’s your scope placement. Brass is bouncing off of your optic and back into the gun. Watch it in slow motion and look closely
I may be wrong about what I’m about to say next… but look at the brass at 22:55. Do you think it rotated out of the chamber like that? Or it went straight up like half of all the other brass, hit the largest part of your dot which just so happens to be positioned in the absolute worst spot possible and bounced back into the action?
Look at the way a normal MP5 ejects brass. They almost always throw brass up at a 10-11 o’clock angle. I wonder how many people didn’t buy a ptr because you couldn’t figure this out.
Did you try using the polymer mags? Maybe steel mags were the problem...
It wasn't the mags--and if it was, PTR should have sent me new ones. They either could not or would not fix it, and both are unacceptable. For what it's worth, on ammo it liked, it ran well with both the PTR mags and Korean steel mags.

Mine is picky with magazines. It only likes one and runs great with it. I’m noticing they need to be bathed in oil too.
Glad you got yours to work. I had some different mags for it, but it had the problems with all the mags I tried. I did not try oiling them, but I feel like I shouldn't have to--I know I don't have to with any other magazine fed guns I have had.

Would have been a better choice for the pricepoint, for sure! Might get another MP5 one day and just hold out for the HK! It's just an iconic gun for me, and the MP% mags load so much easier than the CZ Scorpion ones.
With the gun disassembled did you ever fit a round under the extractor to test the tension?
No--I did not get into trying to repair it. For nearly $2K for a brand new firearm, I had the expectation it would work without needing repairs/replacement parts. I also sent it back to factory and they supposedly fixed it, but it still didn't work when I got it back. If their factory gunsmiths can't or won't fix it, I have no desire to work on it!

yeah, I covered that in video. PRT worked on it, sent it back, had same issues. Sold it back to dealer where I bought it for a heavy loss. I'll never buy a PTR product again. It's bad enough I had to send it in--inexcusable that they didn't fix it!

No....this thing's way to heavy to flip at all, and we shot it with an arm brace, and two-handed with sling tension. I'm not sure it would be possible to limp wrist a roller-delayed firearm as long and heavy as this one.
My god!! What a total hunk of junk… I have heard good reviews on ptr and others that say the gun sucks I have heard good reviews on zenith and others that say there’s is junk… these mp5 knock offs definitely seem to be hit or miss.
I just bought mine and I can’t remove the ETS magazines that came with it by using the magazine lever only the magazine release button allows me to remove the magazine. Has anyone had this problem?
Add a little grease to the cam inside where it engages with the side release. Also a little in the inside magwell on the lever face. Mine was a little rough surface and had the same issue and now it is much more smooth on my ETS mags.

Sorry to hear that--please let me know if yours is right after going to the factory. Mine was still wrong even after a trip to the factory, but still hoping I just got the one gun that couldn't be fixed. I hope yours is right when you get it back.

@@mikeb949 COrrect. Mine wasn't even after going back. Got it back with a note that said "lowered extractor and adjusted magwell". It worked better, but was still unreliable with 8 of the 10 different FMJ ammos I tried with it after it came back from the factory. Loved it when it worked--extremely accurate and low recoil. Just didn't like being restricted to only 2 ball ammos.

It's contained in the video. I sent it in and it came back with the same issues. Slight improvement, but still wasn't reliable on 80% of ammos used. Sold it for half what I paid, back to the gun shop where I bought it, with full disclosure of the issues and why I was selling it.

And all you have to do is stretch the extractor spring a tiny bit and it's good to go and not even fn will warranty a 4,000 scar if supressed..so I feel you are crying too much about an awesome reliable gun before doing you're homework and by watching you're footage you are holding that weak wristed which with many guns can lead to a malfunction..hold it like a man and you're posture is horr8ble so I can see why you're having issues..so all I'm saying is before you go put a very credited company on blast about some things that very well could be by what I can see operator error, why don't you become educated first before ripping apart a good gun..and 1,800 is really not that much for a clone!

what grain ammo were you using?
We used 10 different ammunitions that included 115, 124, and 147 grain. It would not function reliably/consistently on any grain.
What ammo were you using
10 different types of factory FMJ ammunition were used in it after it had been to the factory for service and returned to me. 2 of those 10 ammunitions would function in it. See annotation at 12:34. A $2000 firearm should be able to function on more than 20% of factory manufactured FMJ ammunition.

At nearly $2K, break-in shouldn't be required, and it isn't required according to PTR's owners manual provided with the gun. 200rd break in is required according to PTR. With my particular gun, after 750+ rounds AND a trip back to the factory, would not run on 8 out of 10 factory ammos I tried. Unacceptable.
if your gun NEEDS 1000 rounds to "break in".....its a POS.

PTR sounds like a bunch of idiots....hey let's make a $1800 gun and put a supressor mount on it, but if you use a suppressor it voids the warranty.
If you're buying Pakistani, get an AK! They seem to work better and this PTR 9KT weighs as much as an AK!
Thanks for the comment and I agree that PTR's thinking on this is pretty messed up. Now that the HK SP5 is out with threaded and tri-lug options and German quality, these PTRs will be relegated to the junk heap or tinkerers who don't mind finicky guns.
man i wanted this gun so bad until this video. Thanks for posting it. I did reach out to customer support from PTR to confirm the claim that the use of silencers void the warranty and that statement is 100% accurate. Hard pass on PTR. Will wait for Zenith to come back in stock (which may be never).
