Replace the ejector to 3rd gen style, extractor spring to copper, use HK mags and high quality ammo. Clean entire gun and lube, if you're still having FTE after break in replace the MKE extractor to HK. I have two AP5 and one AP5-P and this fixed the FTE issues in all 3 of them. YMMV Good luck!
I had no issues with my AP5-M, broke it in with 500 rounds of 124gr. But it had 2 FTE with hollow points, and 1 FTE with 115gr FMJ. It was enough for me to get the 3rd gen HK ejector and about a dozen HK brass/copper ejector springs. Works beautifully.
It's important to note the break-in specifically requires 124 gr NATO spec ammo. NATO spec ammo runs hotter than typical mass produced ammo. Another option for break-in is to run a suppressor as this creates more back pressure.
I only had a sample size of 1, but my AP5 ran everything I fed it, including hst hollowpoints. Every now and then it had a hiccup on steel cased blazer I got around the time covid kicked up. Mine ran better than my buddies sp5. His didn't like hollowpoints. I did get rid of it and get a CZ Scorpion, tho. Not because it was unreliable, but because it was so heavy, and dated, and hard to put accessories in. It's about 1lb heavier without a brace, 3lb with one).
Question, why are HK MP5 style firearm variants always called "CLONES." How about AR's and AK's? Why isn't the word "CLONE" not used in those variants?
I own a PTR-9c, an MKE MP5 in semi-auto, and a couple of MP5k semi-autos imported by Zenith Firearms from MKE Turkey who was contract exclusively by HK to manufacture these. I call em' all either a semi-auto MP5 or an MP5k. The manufacturer with tell the rest.
Very good point! The “AR” in AR-15 stands for Armalite. So how can any other AR be called that? Now, I own both a Colt AR and a S&W. I also own an AP5P. I think the HK guys don’t want us calling the “clones” HK’s because HK guys pay thousands more than we pay. Not so with AR’s. For example; I own a Colt which is considered a high end AR But it only cost me around $1200 new while still in LE.
You didn't settle. That IS an HK. It is only missing the brand stamp. All made on genuine HK certified and supplied equipment by HK trained gun builders. It absolutely will feed hollow points reliably as long as you select the right bullet design/profile/ogive.
True and as an owner of AP5-M myself. However, you need to take into account that the tooling Turks got from HK dates back to the 70s. So, that said, the current HK models are to-date tooling vs. the early 70s. Now is that a huge difference? Only time will tell, and I do like my AP5-M. A lot.
I messaged the guy from Teufelshundt Tactical quite a while back and asked him what ammo he used for personal defense and he replied Speer 124 gr +P rounds. Thought I’d share that since you used the same except not +P. Thank you for the video. I got the same deal from Atlantic Firearms for the AP5! Update: while I watched the rest of your video that Speer ammo is the exact ammo he uses. Sorry I didn’t wait to see the complete video
Loving my full sized ap5 but man I want the p or m version still! Nice vid 🎉 Edit: one thing that helps reliability is slamming the mags against a table on the back to make sure the rounds are seated correctly in the mag
I bought an ap5p about a year ago. I lubed it up pretty good when i got it and have only ran 115 grain magtech brass. Ive had zero issues. Also my casings eject further and stronger than how yours does in this video. Im still under 500 rounds.
I bet it'll start working with the "american sniper" once the gun breaks in a bit more. Try it again after you get 500-600 rounds through it (and in HK mags, which seem to be even better than the very similar looking MKE mags). You can also switch out the Ejector for a German HK one for cheap (and it's super easy)--that seems to clear up a lot of ejection issues with people. Ironically, my AP5-P was 100%, but I had a FEW (4-5) FTEs in my AP5. But I switched out the ejector and haven't had an issue since in 1200 rounds. :)
Extractor spring! Not ejector. These are known to have very weak or bad extractor springs out of the box. Have a new extractor spring on first range trip.
Get you a couple new oem hk extractor springs and replace yours. Those extraction springs are cheap and designed to be thrown away after removed not taken out during oiling like I think you may have mentioned (if that is what you were talking about). They are never supposed to be reinstalled after use (even in a oem hk). They are made of copper and very easily replaced.
It could also be that if the clone company used steel extraction springs instead of the spec hk copper springs the softer brass along with a harder steel spring could be causing your issue so would still try replacing with factory hk copper extraction springs. They're not expensive.
I had issues too with my AP5-P. At least one failure every full mag shooting 115gr Remington Range. I’ve had ZERO issues after the first 300 rounds. Now I’m at just over 1200 rounds through it. Looking to get an AP5 just to have both.
@@honkhonk1555 I recently got a Dead Air Wolfman with trilug adapter for it. Changed locking piece to the 80 degree one. Runs Aguila 147gr flat nose perfectly.
Just got a SP5 for 2350 shipped. You just have to look around. I also have an AP5-M and I immediately replaced the extractor and spring with HK parts. The AP5 will now shoot everything without FTF, or SP. The AP5 was also at .014 on bolt head gap. I replaced the rollers with a +1 and it now is .018 ( HK spec) . Dumped 8 mags as fast as I could pull them off with ZERO malfunctions. The AP5 is a great weapon to learn and work on, before getting a SP5. The 8 mags were all 147 grain hard cast btw with no leading of the barrel.
Great video! Also interesting to know it likes the Wolf stuff! As the other have said, the Ejector Spring and lever, along wth an extractor and extractor spring from Germany will give you 100% reliability with any ammo.
I have noticed some HK clone roller delay guns work better with steel. This has been the case with 2 C93 rifles and a PTR91 that I have shot in the past.
The second I picked up my AP5 and AP5M I disassembled and added lubrication. Been getting paranoid about reliability but your video makes me feel way better and the comments seem to point in the direction of changing a couple parts which help with reliability I can’t imagine that an SP5 is like 2700 better than this gun what do you think?

American Sniper shells were ejecting erratically which points to very inconsistent powder load. I'd steer clear of that ammo, because having that same error in the load to the other direction can cost you an arm and a leg. Like, somewhat, literally. Sad to see folks riding on a dead man's fame to sell garbage, but hey...
I'm looking to get this same pistol. I'm thinking on the m in the 8.9 barrel.also like the p-model .which model do you guys prefer better I'm not really looking to run it suppressed, thankyou very much
I've ran about 800 rounds through my AP5 without cleaning. I've started with 115 gr. FMJ and also 124 gr. I've not had one problem with empty cartridges extracting or failure to feed issues. This is a durable military grade firearm that's made by a military contractor, MKE. They actually were contracted to make the same guns for H&K until H&K started producing their own factories. So it is absurd to think that these are inferior weapons just because of their name. If you know anything about car manufacturers, it's like comparing a 1995 Geo Prizm to a 1995 Toyota Corolla.
I just got one. They have different "packages" to choose from. I got the 2nd tier "core" which sells for cheaper but I don't get the extra mag, flash hider, etc. Just gun and brace.
I really wouldn't start worrying about your MP5 until you get through a break-in period with HK mags. Talk to any of those people, they'll state it runs best with 124 NATO for the break-in. They've always run better with those hotter rounds anyways during that period. Besides, Wolf steel case is notoriously underpowered and you're using it in a gun that likes hotter stuff to begin with.
Did your AP5-P start functioning better? I hope so. I won a H&K SP5 from Classic Firearms back in late 2020. I bought an AP5 when they became available again from Atlantic Firearms. Now I’m really considering buying an AP5-P is why I’m asking. Thanks for your great videos.

I picked up the as AP5 and AP5-m which are both by HK contracted MKE manufacture in Turkey. I've heard guys here claim Century manufactures these because Zenith makes their own now. That's almost as left field as you can get. But anyway, I did notice that hammer strut pin point strike in the same place on my SB Tactical folding AP5-m brace. It didn't affect the performance, but I don't know how hard the strikes are. On the brass ammo, I broke mine in with a few hundred PMC Bronze 115 gr. FMJ, a couple of boxes of MAGTECH 124 gr. FMJ, and about a hundred ZQI 124 gr. FMJ which is MKE Turkish manufacture just like both guns. All brass, NO issues. I would try some different brass ammo, I don't think it's your gun at all. Also, on the Speer ammo, I'd stay away from the Speer 147 gr. TMJ ammo. That stuff may be good, but it's flat nosed and I've heard of issues with it because of that. I had a couple of issues with Winchester 147 gr. JHP ammo, but Hornady Critical Duty 124 gr. +P runs like a champ. It's the round's o-jive bullet tip. Thanks for the brace info, Semper Fi.
Weird seeing your AP5-P struggle with 124 grain ball. Mine runs it flawlessly but, that’s also after running around 2000 rounds through it. I’d be surprised if you still had that issue after a significant break-in.
If these are from Turkey, they are not really clones, they have a legal license to produce and market these firearms. THE BIG ISSUE is the quality of the steel used in making various parts. It’s basically low quality recycled steel. Springs are not properly hardened and tempered, this also applies to the extractors. Quality assembly and reasonably priced.
Great video! very informative.. Ive seen your posts on Reddit as well! how is your AP5 / P after a month? i recently bought am AP5 full size with about 800 rounds through it 124grn and have had about 8 failures to eject, so about 1%.. I Was thinking of buying the HK extractor spring and the Ejector.. I wasnt sure if the Extractor was needed as well?? 6 of my FTE was stove pipes but 2 of them was shoved into the gun enough, I had to field strip to clear the jam. It seems like most of the clones have SEF lowers. Do people prefer them for some reason? The Navy lowers seemed more ergonomic to me, and FWIW, more contemporary.
Nice to see you again bud, hope all is well. I have the POF SMG-PK reverse stretch (MP5-K). I love it but the finish is not all that. I have a side folding and a telescopic arm brace with Mod1C tailhook adaptor. The tailhook really works and I run 30 round HK mags. I also have some rare German stick mags. The side folder is a gear head works I think and the telescopic brace is safety harbor firearms. I didn’t have many issues when I shot my gun and it appears to eat whatever ammo I put through it. The MP5 and the K are my dream guns and I own one. I had the POF MP5 (it actually said MP5 on top) but I sold it for a nice profit, and personally I like the K more, more compact and lighter. I did run the Magpul polymer lower but I had issues so I’m using the original metal lower….. the Magpul safety is nicer but my OEM will do. The gen 2 Korean mags run good based on the one 20 rounder I have. I do like my trigger as well. Ya I can’t bump fire it lol but that’s okay. ✌️&❤️ Have a good Christmas and happy new year 😊
Not sure what you mean by dwell time, MP5 isn't gas operated. Did notice you have weak case ejection. Wolf might not be best ammo to test reliability. Wolf's steel cases engage the chamber flutes differently than brass cased ammo.
Leave everything as it is straight out of the box. Do NOT change anything before you've taken it to the range no matter what others claim. Put at least 500 rounds through it - all FMJ - no exceptions just to run it in. What is high quality ammo? There are no commercial manufacturers who make crap ammo - they'd be out of a job in no time. Ammo gets a bad wrap by people who have messed around with their guns that NOTHING runs through it any more. Avoid buying reloads at all times. This platform should run with steel cased ammo no problems - but you must treat any problems during run in as something that will be the norm during this time. Tight tolerances will smooth themselves out as you put more rounds through. Copper coated extractor springs vs the non coated versions. I've read good and bad about both, so I cannot believe anything that i read or hear. I keep hearing that hollow points cause problems, however I have no experience with this. Keep the faith - the MKE is a lovely little gun.
Everyone talks about wanting an MP 5, then they buy a clone…. Then makes a video saying how happy they are with it… put constantly compare it to an H&K… you folks make me laugh
Settled lol the Ap5 is every bit as good as an HK . Follow the break in...if you don't...don't complain. I have friends with "real" sp5'$ and they can't believe how good my welds are...to the point, I know it irritates them 😂 Additionally, every time I see a "genuine" it reminds me of how I saved 2k and got to put that savings towards ammo, accessories and training 👍
YMMV

I really want the HK guns. But I agree. Getting these both for less than a SP5 is just a way better deal
You can always swap the ejector and extractor with a German ones and that will fix the weak ejection issues, It worked on my POF MP5 PK.

Might be because of the reputation of the HK. The want to make the distinction. The MP5 community
Bc you (or the manufacturer) are making the firearm to look just like another specific firearm

Have a good Christmas and happy new year 😊
What kind of issues did you have with the plastic lower on your pof
Nice video
Does the sb brace tweaks need to be done to the 9 inch as well?
Back when I used braces, the SBT5 brace went on my PTR with no modifications needed.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great vid
MKE is a great platform, but Century Arms customer support really, really sucks.
Not sure what you mean by dwell time, MP5 isn't gas operated. Did notice you have weak case ejection. Wolf might not be best ammo to test reliability. Wolf's steel cases engage the chamber flutes differently than brass cased ammo.
Blowback is literally gas operated. The barrel is the tube and the case is the piston.
The AP5P is jamming due to the brace your using.

Junk ammo for a junk gun. You get what you pay for. As we say at HK... Stop being poor
Excellence video, thank you!
Settled lol the Ap5 is every bit as good as an HK . Follow the break in...if you don't...don't complain.
I have friends with "real" sp5'$ and they can't believe how good my welds are...to the point, I know it irritates them 😂
Additionally, every time I see a "genuine" it reminds me of how I saved 2k and got to put that savings towards ammo, accessories and training 👍
I have an HK SP5 and that gun eats any and all ammo and never malfunctions. You get what you pay for.
