The yoruba people believe Egungun to be incarnate or possesive visitation of the ancestors. "Egun" translates loosely to "to be possessed" this is to mean the ancestor posses the one under the mask to celebrate with their descendants.
You might wonder why Benin Republic?
Yes. There is tribe of Yoruba people in Benin Repubic. No thanks to Europe for balkanization of Africa. Now we have siblings speaking different foreign languages. 😬
