Talents, Stat Priorities, Additional Spells, and Further gameplay tips will be talked about in the full class guide I make once Dragonflight launches. The beginners guide is aimed towards players just picking up the class for the first time.
For all the new healers out there, don't get discourage when you get blamed for the mistakes of tanks and dps. I find healing very rewarding especially when you are the last one up and having to dps the boss down to save the run.
thanks for the comment. Nearly every run in mythic+ I get blamed for the deaths and get laughed at. Even though we finish the run in time. It is so frustrating as a healer...
@@Klabauterfra I main holy pally and I’ve never experienced this, at least not frequently by any means. people blame the tank the majority of the time in keys and raids in my experience. If it’s happening nearly every run then, you know, common denominators and all that. It’s at least worth a look into before coming to the conclusion that people are targeting you for no reason. “I receive criticism nearly every time I do this thing I can’t possibly be the issue it’s definitely other people” is just how your comment sounds to me. Which granted may be true, but as a healer for long long time I find a little hard to believe. People also tend to take the most innocuous of constructive feedback as egregious personal attacks so there’s that too. Not saying anything one way or the other, I don’t know you, just that it’s worth taking a look at yourself when encountering the same issues over and over
I have found healing in Retail to be very unrewarding. Combine that with a it being a main that underperforms in the open world, and you have an experience that is lacking, for sure. Holy priest in Classic is so much more rewarding.
Lol, got booted because I couldn't keep the DPS warrior alive.....healed hum more than anyone. He was acting as a tank and would just drop half his life
exactly the kind of guide i was looking for. no extraneous information. i just needed to know which spells i can use to keep my friends alive. Too many guides make it complicated when i don't have context for complicated. I'm newer to the game and i've had trouble finding guides that weren't aimed at people who already kinda know what they're doing. same goes for interface modifications.
Jut came back to WoW after many years away and tried priest for the first time. I had 5 consecutive dungeon party wipes as I had no idea what I was doing. This video was extremely helpful. Thanks heaps.
Dude thank you so much for this. Some guides can be incredibly overwhelming for beginners to a spec but this guide made it so stupid easy. You got a sub out of me!
I’m so glad I found your guide. I have a holy priest yet I’m so scared to get into raids not knowing what healing spells to use. This is great and gives me confidence to play my healer. Ty much
Thank you for this informative, yet straightforward guide. I was away for a while, and there have been many changes. I was having some trouble catching up, and other guides were too confusing. I may have caused a few wipes on some dungeons. However, this video helped me perfectly, and I am now having successful runs.
Dude, this is an AMAZING guide. Thanks for speaking slowly, giving us time to think, absorb and look at the game.. Great job! Got a sub, like and such.
I just started the class w/ a lvl60 boost and was pretty overwhelmed by all the different healing buttons. I appreciate this giving me a "dumbed down" handful to focus on to start with. Thanks!
Just made a Holy Priest because I started getting interested in healing. Had no clue what I was doing and thanks to this guide I am way more comfortable and actually feel like I understand the abilities and rotations. Definitely subscribing for future guides!
Omg the target named Subscribeplz 😂. I’d like to see more content like this. It was a very helpful and easy overview of the spec which is great for a newish wow player like me. My only feedback is to zoom in more. We want to see the pretty effects too. Thanks!
Great vid man! Returning to WoW Retail after jumping away from Shadowlands since its launch haha. I am a healer main and this was basic, to the poing and what I needed to see.
I would like to add a little clarification that goes into detail regarding mastery. Do not fall into the mastery cliché, thinking that all your healings depend on it. Increasing only mastery is the biggest mistake you can make, as every single secondary stats has value and all of them affect it positively. Holy priest does not revolve around stats, but rather simple and effective gameplay.
1:23 Min.: Prayer of Healing sucks your Mana hard down and you vorget the Heal spell. Mostly use you Prayer of Mending and Flash heal and let the Tank then Drops a bit 2 gave him than a huge heal in his face with this 2 buffs the 2 Set Piece Boni and the Light Waver Boni. Both fit realy well 2gether in my eyes ^^
My absolute problem every time playing fully holy priest is I don’t ever take care of myself!!! 🙄 I’m always so focused on everyone else’s health bars I don’t even pay attention to healing myself. I even moved my character box right in my face
It can be useful for an instant quick absorb and while your on the move and so on. So it's good. I just didn't include it for beginners since you can get by without it
I recommend... 1. Weakauras 2. Big Wigs 3. Elvui (optional) I have profiles and more info in my discord (link in the description) just look for the #addons-n-weakauras channel in there or dm me if you have any other questions as I'm currently on mobile.
@Fractal I’ve mained holy priest for years, and I use Heal as my main single target filler, I only use Flash Heal when I have a free proc or when I need to heal someone FAST and serenity is on cooldown. If you spam flash heal you’ll run out of mana VERY quickly.
0:34 Min.: 20% is 2 much AND 2 less. 4 m+ u dont need the mastery and 4 raid you want 2 be by 40/50% of it. If i rember right its was so in shadowlands ^^
Is flash heal generally more efficient than heal in terms of casting time/amount of hp recovered/mana usage? Should I opt for flash heal instead of heal or would it be better to have both close by on the action bar?
I would have both available. It depends on the talents you take, that will determine if you cast more flash heal + heal or prayer of healing + circle of healing. To keep it short though, talents should guide you on what buttons you'll be pressing more
Eventually you will want to use them all. But for getting started the abilities mentioned in the video is all you need to put your focus into because they will be 90% or more of your healing output
I just specced holy...Unsure of how to best target people to cast a heal. At first I was clicking each standard party frame then casting...Another priest had said to enable "hover over to cast" option...which seemed to help a little. What other addons should I be using for healing mythics and raids?
Circle of healing you can press on cooldown as it is a pretty efficient spell for its cost. Renew you will not be pressing much if at all, there are talents that will cast it for you without you needing to manually cast it.
@@Moarcookiezlive Thank you for the quick response. I have been doing it wrong then. I have been using renew in raids on people to keep them topped off before some damage comes in. Then revert to AoE heals to heal them. I need to move that spell to a less used binding then.
Sorry I'm missing the point here. Is this a reference to my delivery in the video or something else. Sorry it's been a while since I recorded that so I don't remember everything

@@Metsmaster718 Oh woops sorry didn't see the video this comment was left on lol. Typically as far as I know, you won't be pressing power word shield unless you have talents that incentivise you to use it.
I really feel like this guide is lacking for not mentioning Heal. Mana does matter even in normal dungeons, and you're setting people up for OOM failure by not mentioning it.
Every solution carries problems. A true beginners guide has to cut things out and I feel confident in players abilities to figure out the difference between heal and flash heal (especially since there are talents like lightweaver that help inform the player the use of heal as a spell)
@@Moarcookiezlive fair enough. I'm not a WoW content creator (I make wildly unpopular bullshit on Tiktok about random BS), but I do try to mentor other Holy Priests and you have given me a good base to build on for them. I have a keybinds video where I go over that. I'd link it directly but I'm on mobile sorry 😞
Thanks for the guide :) Quick question, do you ever use just the regular heal spell? or is it just too slow/weak to ever really use

Total noob here. I can't figure out how to display the healing numbers on the nameplates...
Should be in the in game settings (Interface > Display incoming heals) not 100% sure if this is it but either way the setting is somewhere in there
I’m curious, should we level as holy also? Or do I need to learn shadow spec too?
You can level as a healing spec just fine. You certainly lose just a bit of speed compared to doing Shadow but its really not that bad.
