Even in the ‘80s & ‘90s church lasted so long. We went everyday! Sunday service for hours, seminary before school, Wednesday night service and some Saturday dances or activities. I also remember being involved in roadshows! Those were actually the best memories. Girls camp and Girl Scouts of course. Also church girls softball team. Wow....when I type it all out it’s amazing looking back how church took over my whole life! I was such an exhausted teenager. Dealing with church and also trying to be a teenager and deal with school and social activities or after school programs, sports, band, dance. It was certainly an ALL or NOTHING lifestyle.
I grew up in the church in the 1970s in California and Arizona. About 70% of my time outside school was spent in church.
@@SteveSmith-os5bs I can definitely relate with that. It’s amazing how much the church can be involved in your life. Or rather how your life revolves around the church!
The church has removed all the fun things roadshows, sports leagues, Boy Scouts, ward potlucks, ward camping trips, ward breakfasts.
Depends on the ward we still have them . More likely to be in singles wards
I remember doing Music Man in a roadshow. They made sure we everyone had a part in the skit!

What a heartwarming and nostalgic video. I caught the tail end of some of this stuff - road show, church basketball, definitely lots of scouting. Good times. If the church can embrace an identity as a well-organized social group and abandon a lot of dogma and indefensible claims, I might go back.
It was fun!! I wasn’t raised mormon in SLC, but all the churches seemed to have something fun! Thank you guys for enlightening this 47 year old🙂
The road shows were really, really a positive experience. Sure wish they had more sports.
I left the church in 2018 when I was 18 and was a member all my life. I remember doing the math one day and I was spending 3-4 hours at church Sunday (I was laurel president so we’d have meetings after 1/2 times a month). Plus seminary 5 hours a week. And mutual activities (2hrs on Wednesday) And firesides(2 hours once a month sunday). And FHE (1 hr Monday). It added up to like 10-15 hours a week!
That doesn’t even include girls camp, temple trips, random other church functions.
As a teen I was not getting any sleep because of school work and I was heavily in sports(spending 20-25 hours a week practicing). I didn’t even have time for a social life 1/2 the time. I wish I would have allowed myself to rest!
You went twice on Sundays, Saturday morning primary, Wednesday night YW, early morning seminary five days a week, Saturday activities, basketball practice, (I don’t remember when mom went to RS) - no matter how far you had to drive. (Gas was cheap then.) We lived out in the “mission field” so we always lived a good 30 minutes away. But we were certainly emotionally involved and felt like family.
