      @@henryw.elliott499 Well, I totally agree with you in this point, being that the modern flat caps are nothing compared to those from the early 20th century in terms of attractivity and elegance. However, this isn't only the case with flat caps but also with many other garments and items of the classical menswear spectrum and therefore it is safe to say that the "golden times" of clothing (unfortunately) are way behind us.

    About ten years ago I started a personal study into comfortable well styled dress and my outer layering decisions were designed around temperature variations.
    The initial layers of an outfit go a long way to creating that base thermal trap for colder climates. What I decided on was simply an additional coat. I refer to it as an overcoat which i would have over a jacket. Then underneath both I would maintain maybe another four layers. One of which would be a sweater or sweater vest over the possibility of a vest but definitely two shirts. With the shirts I might vary the sleeve length but i prefer a long sleeve.
    My "overcoat" would be a loose fitting drape most likely incorporating capes, cloaks, and even robes. I enjoy my duster often as well.
    My jacket layer includes a military style trench, suit, and leather jackets.
    Partly inspired by the layering seen in the "Harry Potter" films. As they would have a full suit on with light or heavy robe over all.
    Material too is important and that can play into choosing a piece for an ensemble and intended time of use.

  • @Manuel421
    @Manuel421 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know traditionally suit Jackets were meant to be worn with their matching pants but what do you feel when they are sold as seperates? For example I have 3 jackets at the moment 2 are suit and one is a sport. The suits are a Glen Plaid pattern and Charcoal grey so I feel they can still be worn with different pants. I wouldn't separate my dark suit though since the fabric is too shiny and obviously too formal. Anyway I know you all tend to be too busy to respond to everyone but just wanted to share my thoughts and ask. Excellent content as always!

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@henryw.elliott499 I appreciate your insight thank you. I absolutely agree with you that normally I wouldn't break up a suit however since they are a solid Charcoal Grey and a Medium Grey Plaid I believe they can definitely still look nice with Chinos or any Wool Trousers as long as the colors don't clash too much. Also Plaid is a pattern which makes it easy to wear as a sport coat casually just my opinion but obviously my dark suit I wouldn't separate because the fabric is somewhat silky and shiny if that makes sense. But the next Jackets I purchase will definitely be a couple more sport coats instead of suits. Also keep in mind I mostly have switched over to Chinos instead of Jeans so it's a balance between casual and dressy. Although I do keep a black pair what is your opinion on dark Jeans? Hopefully the Charcoal Jacket wouldn't clash with the black jeans but I think the outfit would look nice especially with a white Dress shirt.

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henryw.elliott499 I truly appreciate intellectual conversations like these sadly it's something that's somewhat rare on here nowadays even if it is on fashion it is still valued so thank you. Hopefully someday GG notices me as I have been gladly upgrading my wardrobe but I understand that they tend to be so preoccupied and don't nearly have time to respond to everyone or acknowledge. Also thanks for not insulting me..it's strange how sometimes completely random strangers would write such rude and unnecessary comments without even truly knowing the person. I have too much class for that so I just block it and move on so thanks for treating me with kindness. So a Black pair of jeans could work with a Charcoal Grey jacket and white shirt? I will definitely experiment the outfits. I'm a pretty classy guy not to brag just being honest haha so I have no doubt at all. I'm just new to casual suits since I've always worn the traditional matching. I live in AZ so it's hot most of the time but still during the cooler weather I want to start wearing a suit at least once a week.

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henryw.elliott499 Absolutely excellent points and I completely agree. If I have a question I'm never ashamed to ask either and no it doesn't make you idiotic. I plan on also adding a Harrington for another casual yet classy jacket as I actually prefer it to a Bomber Jacket but again it's preference. I no longer care for a leather jacket though since I already had the experience of wearing one in high school. I want to keep it a bit more sophisticated and elegant at this point even though the Harrington can look a little edgy as well. Instead of buying a super cheap one though I think I will save up a bit so I can get more quality. The one Orviss sells looks pretty promising but not sure of its quality. Nicer clothes do make you feel more confident in many ways so I'm definitely going to continue upgrading. What would you suggest for leather shoes that can be dressed up or down? I already have loafers and a Cap Toe Oxford with some broguing but I'm thinking of adding either a suede Derby shoe or Chukka boots. You to great chat!

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henryw.elliott499 I'll definitely consider a pair of suede derbies next time thank you. For colors Oxblood seems very attractive when you want to change it up from Brown but it is somewhat rare for certain brands. Allen Edmond's are too expensive for me so perhaps another will do until I can eventually save up that much. What shoe brands do you enjoy? I'll probably look into Shoe passion and Paul Evans as well. Honestly my leather shoes are probably lower quality than the top brands but as long as they last 8-10 years I'm satisfied but time will tell. I should probably invest in shoe trees in the near future to keep them from creasing.

    • @Manuel421

      @@henryw.elliott499 I'm actually going to re watch the "Sprezzato" video in a bit since I don't remember certain aspects that he said from it so it's nice to refresh my memory. From my understanding it's wearing different colors or styles but within the same fabrics in similar weight most of the time? Obviously not completely matching like a traditional suit Is what I heard. I think I will break the rule a bit though especially when wearing with Chinos instead of my Wool Trousers. Amazing deal indeed! I get a majority of my items on sale as well which is nice when it's available. What are your thoughts on Rockport and Johnston and Murphy? I know they're probably not as high end as Allen Edmonds or even Beckett Simonon but I feel they are wonderful to start with and great for the price.
