I'm Canadian and I REALLY MISS our army mess-halls. The food was incredible, fresh and ALL YOU CAN EAT... I'm a chef and I have yet to find a cafeteria style place that can turn out that quality.. The cooks and supply techs were EVERYONE'S best friends... Prison is no different. If you have access to things that make life better in strict and bleak situations... You can make LOTS of side cash if you're the least bit like that.

Talking about the brewing in the UK we just used Marmite for yeast, one teaspoon in a 3 litre container with orange juice and sugar at night we let the hot tap on a steady little drizzle so the water in the sink stays warm and doesn't flood the cell as its filling up slow enough for the overflow to keep it at that level leave the container in the sink as long as you can each night & we used to put a tiny hole in the lid for the gas to escape which you cover with blu tack or toothpaste when hiding it through the day. After 3 days at night when it's warm you can feed it more sugar which is cool as you can tell its working if as you add sugar it fizzes like mad. One last thing, the screws found our hiding spot one day (out on the main landing to minimise chance of it being found in your cell) so we needed a new place, in the end we paid a couple of the trustees to let us hide it in the communal freezers. Obviously this is hooch already made because you wouldn't want it freezing during the brewing stage anyway after it had been in the freezer for 3 days it was canteen day so everyone has items to trade tobacco, phonecards all the usual so we asked the trustee to get four bottles out (each bottle was a 1 litre squash bottle) straight away I noticed that despite being in freezer for 3 days each bottle had a little bit still liquid so we poured it out and wowzer it was clear like vodka and had a kick like a really strong spirit. Turns out alcohol only freezes at a much lower temperature than the orange juice so we had accidentally found a way to make spirits. After that every brew we made we would use one bottle to collect spirit and save it all up for a special occasion. We finally had just under a litre when we drunk it on Christmas eve and it blew our socks off the only downside was the god awful hangover the next morning. Sorry if this was long winded just thought I'd share. This took place in late 90s for anyone wondering about the tobacco reference.
You would be amazed at the things we do in lock up....haircuts with a razor and a comb....seeing w string and a staple.....paintballs in a sock...stencils and using ink from magazines and making decorative envelopes...using magazine cologne samples and hot water to make cologne...using cornstarch for baby powder......the list goes on and on
Ramen's good but you gotta put -something - in it. An egg and a handful of cheese makes it a pretty satisfying meal. Onions, soy, maybe peanut butter are also pretty solid choices.
It wasn't just the walk there and waitin to get the food that made me not wanna go to the chow hall it was also the smell of the food and chow hall that would be stuck with you for a few days in your clothes it was just too much for me sometimes

When I went and did my 7 calendars I didn't have anyone sending me money, so even with the best job (about .50 an hour) I wasn't making much for commissary, and I actually saved most of that by only allowing myself coffee, good hygiene products and vitamins. One way I got commissary is I would find people that would max out their purchase limit and I'd have their people send money to me then they could order on mine. Charged 25 percent which was twice as good as anyone else since the going rate was 50 percent. Half of something is better than all of nothing.
i used to pay the kitchen workers (paisas ran it, southern cali) and theyd shoot me down ham and other nice lunch meat. Cheeses. Fries and burgers from the staff diner. Money talks in there, you can eat really good for the right price. A burger n fries cost me 3$ , but it was AMAZING. The fries were so bomb id eat them out here if i could, it was all from like a staff diner for the sheriffs, they had a actual grill up there and a full on kitchen. Some lame ended up telling and the free staff told us who was the snitch and he got rolled out. Turns out it was another paisa who said it was wrong that they stole from the state kitchen... you can imagine how popular he was after that...
Hell no they don't. I'm a cook at an assisted living community and we cook 3 hot meals a day and give free snacks all day long. The elderly and disabled are normally picky assholes who like to disrespect anyone that doesn't give them everything they want anytime they want it, so they cry "abuse" over anything. We could serve steak and lobster every night and 50% of the house would still complain, gauranteed.
He literally never acts like an expert the fuck are you lot on. If you actually watch the VODs and not out of context clips, he's constantly saying "I only did 2 months and it wasn't anywhere super serious so I don't know everything" or something to that effect. Also, he's been on the show with multiple people who spent years in prison, and they've never once gone "that's not how that works" so clearly he knows his shit. Additionally, if you start a job and don't know your shit within 60 days, you're going to get fired. But your dumbass is probably unemployed or 12, so figures you don't know that.

I got put into GP Thai prison only for 4 days and god dam that was hell on earth. I didn't eat next to nothing as I was in a cell with 150ish ppl and the toilet was open and I knew ppl had Aids and hep C so I didn't want to eat much. No blankets, beds and my pillow was a water bottle that you squeeze a little air out so it was a bit soft

A lot of lifers in there walk around with soulless eyes. You can tell your a lifer because they have steal rebar wrapped around their ankles with a small chain between, so they have to shuffle everywhere.
You do have people eyeing your stuff on package times. I would always say bring what you have over to trade then we can talk. Don't come at with nothing to try and make a deal, Or I would always do one for one so I would have people come to me first. I did lots of art for people so it was strange who had my back if things did not work. I dealt with all races so if somebody had a problem that person would go deal with it then same with the others. My favorite was when someone tried jumping me in for my laundry. You learn a lot about people tho, prison is a very good learning experience if you manage it right, or semi right.
