I love how you review bikes, you have a very unique style and way of talking about bikes. I never watch bike reviews that are more than 10 minutes but I’d watch a 20 minute bike review from you any day
I have been saying this for some time now. HD made a very poor decision in perhaps the worst economic time to make such a decision to go all premium. To compound it, they’ve alienated future younger riders from buying into their brand, while RE has done the complete opposite, and I think they will be rewarded for that now and in the future, while HD will pay the price.
Completely agree. I went to a Harley dealer before I bought my last bike; felt like I needed a shower to get the experience off me when I left (didn't buy a Harley).
Have you seen the SWM Stormbreaker? It's a Chinese/Italian clone of Harley-Davidson Sportster forty-eight, with an air-cooled V-Twin. That could well be an affordable Harley for the masses. It's priced at 9,990 euros (~$11,000)
The only thing that's stopping younger buyers is the price. As far as their range goes it's still pretty good. I'd personally (along with others, I'm sure) rather buy a 3-5 year old Sportster instead of the new models but they've still got great bikes such as the Street Bob and Low Rider S. In my opinion, and not meant in a harsh way, Royal Enfield has only captured younger minds because of the price and the small CC capacity. They're not realistically long term bikes because you'll get bored of a 650cc pretty quickly and won't be able to readily do long tours on it.
I have to say, you are fast becoming my favourite bike reviewer. Most of the other review channels are caught up on stats. You portray the "feel" of the bike perfectly. Your videos are classy without pretension. On top of this, the production values are spot on.
Your presentations are totally engrossing. A unique style, full of old world charm, like the Meteor. Beautifully filmed and so tastefully soundtracked.
Freddie just has a way of communicating the information that we WANT to hear. Specs sheets only tell you so much. Also, he doesn’t posture like he’s a YouTubing version of Rossi. Just an ordinary guy who loves bikes and knows how to talk about them in a human way. Another great video. Also, I agree… for all the effort they put into making this a premium-feeling offering, why-oh-why did they opt for those God-awful offset plasticky gauges. Completely lets the bike down. They could have easily just fitted the Interceptor gauges if it was a budgeting issue. Utterly baffling.
That's because nowadays every motorbike journalist and youtubers are talking about features and lots of features for this or that price point which is very annoying even here in india ppl will compare this bike with similarly priced offering instead of the class and type comparison even many reviews of the classic 350 youtubers and motor journalist will complain about why the classic doesn't have a digi speedo and lots of unnecessary features that comes with modern bikes, because it's 21st century like hell bro why do you think it's called a classic in the first place
I think it absolutely beautiful 😍 The rear mudguard/fender is a work of art. My only objection is the Roger Ramjet sign on the right side casing above rear brake. A simple speedometer was all this bike required, no need for navigation or cheap digital extras. The old Royal Enfield badge on the tank would have been perfect. Beautiful Beautiful bike.❤❤ Great review Freddie 👏
@ssdravidian indeed, if you check out old pictures of Roger Ramjet you'll come across those wings 🪽 😋 I honestly can't believe that someone would deface a classic motorcycle with such a JOKE decal . Three rifles would have been more authentic.
You two are a force to be reckoned with, Freddie’s presentation, coupled with Monika’s production make it so polished it a pleasure to watch, even when it’s a bike I’m not really interested in. For me I think the wheels make it look cheap, especially the non disc side of the front wheel. Cruisers aren’t my thing but I like the proportions. It looks a bigger cc than it is.
I have a Yamaha VMax for many years and it was 1990s cruiser magic - and with a V4 engine was a beast that pulled your arms out - not great round corners - but what cruiser is. Dated now - but out of the 50 odd bikes I have owned since late 70s one of my favourites.
This is the best written and recorded review that i've already saw about a cruiser. I had Harley 883 and 1200, Bonneville T120, and a Royal Continental GT, but i've missed my cruiser days so much, and has fallen in love with bonneville engine that now i own a Speedmaster for 5 days and already did the first service (600 miles) because i'm in love with her! But, if i had the need to do a downgrade, i'll think i would go for a Super meteor after your review.
I think this, by far, is the best review of the Super Meteor. Had a look at your channel, it's passion-injected, apart from all the technicalities. Love your work!
Making a motorcycle review video in December in England was never gonna be easy, but this comes close to being perfectly managed. Authentic, informative, entertaining and sleekly edited. Bravo Freddy and Monika, take a bow.
I cant think of any other reviewer who is so comfortably casual about taking their bikes into muddy fields , coating the tyre treads in gunk and trusting the sidestands to not sink! Brilliant stuff. Keep up the true motorcycling vibes, Freddie.
Wow Freddie. Nice job sir. You are at your peak here in this review and coincidentally reviewing a superlative bike from a marque in the ascendant. Felt like I was watching an episode from the good old days of top gear. Keep doing what you’re doing 👍😀
Fine review Freddie. Couldnt agree more about the USB positioning. Especially when they got it so right on the 350s. I have run a 2 meter cable up behind the side panel, under the tank, along the brake line and up to the handlebar riser on mine. Job done 👍🏻
What about a cable under the seats to a bag on the back seat or a sissy bar/rear rack? Decent satellite visibility, good weather protection, and most importantly avoids the handle bar cell phone “aesthetic”.
@bootsinthedirt I've fitted a right angled usb cord that is connected in the side box. It pointed the wrong way so I just unscrewed the fitted socket and turned it 180°, made a little slot in the housing and screwed it back in place. Now if I need extra, I can hang the cord from the box to plug in.
I definitely think should a classic 650 come, they'll take advantage of the probably increased price point to get those aesthetics over the final hurdle when it comes to metal materials and finishes, definitely need spoked wheels
Freddie you could sell me absolutely everything! But it is true, I got the chance to drive the Super Meteor 650 a few weeks ago and had an absolute blast. Instantly felt like the road is my home and love all the little quality of life features it delivers that not every cruiser, especially the older ones, has.
I wonder why they didn’t use the combined instrument/Sat nav that they have on the new Himalayan? That centrally mounted would work perfectly 👍 I agree though it’s a nice looking bike which I’m sure will sell well
That navigation system was designed for the new Himalayan 450 which was recently launched. The Super Meteor 650 was launched way back in Jan of 2023. In future we might see it.
Placing 241 kilograms onto a main stand, and then sitting astride it in a damp English field, could be tantamount to extreme silliness, Freddie. Alright, so you extricated it this time - my XS11 would just bog down and have to be dug out - ask me how I know.
I really enjoyed your review of the Royal Super Meteor, mainly because of the enthusiasm this bike has imparted upon you. Very infectious indeed ! I feel the need to ride this bike. Apart from and including the cruiser segment, many of us are very interested in Retro bikes in general. Love the Speedmaster, Kawasaki W800, Moto Guzzi V7 etc. I do ride a GS , very functional and pleasingly brutal in looks, but continuously feel the need to get back to the roots. Sentimental, I guess…Thank you Freddie for another wonderful video. Just Soo pleasant to watch and hear. Greetings, Jim
Hi Freddie, I have listed my 350 Meteor's shortcomings as: 1. no kick-starter 2. pathetic chain-guard (RE should take a lesson from BSA's 441 Shooting Star - or better still, MZ's Supa 5) 3. ridiculously small tool box (just a slot, really) 4. no fork gaiters It looks like the Super Meteor suffers from exactly the same shortcomings. Apart from these few flaws, I love my Meteor; it's brought the fun back to London biking, something I had thought was lost forever. The Super Meteor looks magnificent but, at least for me, is too heavy in weight and too heavy on fuel compared to the Interceptor. Still, a great video - there's something compulsive about your style. Keep it going.
MZs enclosed chain was a brilliant idea, which no-one else has done, as far as I know? Passed my test on an MZ 125 and used an ETZ 251 for 6 months in the 90s, when my GS550 chop was bounced down the road! Commuted 400 miles a week, country roads and motorways and never missed a beat.
Number 1 "No kick starter" ? That's an odd one if you don't mind me saying. You could then say no Carb or choke too. Quirky character is one thing but if you are going to have smart phone connectivity putting a kickstart on would seem a pointless retro conceit IMO.
@@barrydaly7174 A kick-starter is not retro conceit, Barry, but a very practical piece of equipment. Let me itemise the benefits. 1. you can start the bike with a flat battery; I've kick-started my W650 on just 9 volts and pretty well zero amps. 2. A kick-starter is lighter and cheaper than a starter motor and its attendant heavier battery, as illustrated by the Yamaha SR400 3. A kick-starter enables clutch freeing in cold weather 4. A kick-starter eases maintenance; it allows the engine to be turned over slowly, precisely and gradually for maintenance tasks such as adjusting valve clearances. 5. A kick-starter can give an instant feel of general mechanical condition; I once went to buy a very old Honda CD 200 Benly with a suspiciously low recorded mileage but was the seller lying? One prod on the kick-starter with ignition off told me he wasn't - so instead of I walking away I carried on testing and bought the machine. And that m'lud, is the case for the defence. But suppose I am completely wrong? What would it matter if a kick-starter were fitted anyway? It's always good to have a backup. Referring to a kick-starter as "retro conceit" alas, illustrates how so many bikers today have lost sight of the true benefits of the appropriate motorcycle. The bike press over the years has done us a disservice in the types of bikes it has endorsed, often high consumption, high tech gas guzzlers. It doesn't have to be that way
Ok maybe Retro conceit was the wrong phrase unnecessary extra would probably be a better one..... All of that makes me wonder@@stephenkearney8589 Why they bothered removing them in the first place. Maybe 1; There would be very little demand 2: The extra manufacturing cost plus extra weight and raw materials (unless you get rid of electric start altogether and that would be silly) 3 : Much like new cars fewer batteries run flat because of auto switch off's. There are really good, frugal modern bikes most of the Japanese bikes that are less than 1000 CC are very good on gas consumption.
Superb review as always, Freddie. Given the lack of an entry level Harley option and the Super Meteor's status quo-defying affordability, the temptation is definitely there. That said, the one possible deal breaker is its weight in relation to its power. In my case, it's tough to transition from a bike that weighs 419 lb's with 150 horsepower to a 500 lb bike with less than 50 - granted its a non performance oriented cruiser, of course. For better or worse, us yanks aren't unlike the Germans in that we often care more about spec sheets than raw character. 😉
Brilliant video Freddie, one of the best reviews, I watched all 22 minutes... Cruisers aren't for me.. At least they wasn't, I just turned 50 maybe its time to put my feet forward a little! Absolutely love the look of this bike and its price is excellent value. Excellent recording from Monika too and amazing editing skills... 👍👍👌👌
I love the look and price! I just purchased a Triumph Bobber with no regrets, but might have purchased the Super Meteor had things been timed differently. One thing I do like is the way they transition from silver to black with highlights of chrome from front to back.
I really love this bike. It's on the list I have, with a handful of other bikes, for what I might like once I graduate from my 125. I don't know what it is though that just seems slightly off to me. It's not the tripper navigation, I actually like that, or at least the idea. Rather than having my smartphone on the bars, I think the tripper is a good compromise. I know some people might just say to rely on road signs or figure out where you're going then ride, but I find GPS navigation takes your mind off worrying where you're going, allowing you to focus on what's happening on the road.
Like every other reviewer I've seen, you compared the Super Meteor 650 to the Honda Rebel 500. I don't understand why nobody is comparing it to the Honda Shadow 750 instead. The shadow also has the classic cruiser styling, and is similar in terms of size, weight, power and price. The Shadow offers fewer features for a little more money, but it does bring a proper V-twin motor and a reputation for reliability and durability that it's built over the last few decades. I'd love to see someone do a head-to-head comparison video.
Great review. You have quickly become one of my favourite TH-camrs to watch, love the passion you seem to present from the heart and not a spec sheet. I also love the fact that we get to see your home and whats going on in your life it just makes it feel so much more personal and comfy, and the fact that you don't just show when everything is going right again makes you more relatable. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see how the story of the Bonnie plays out.
Great review Freddie I have an interceptor and the engine is bullet proof yes it's top heavy but I love it. Royal Enfield have produced another gem with this bike.
Nice review, I think we were all hoping it wouldn’t fall over on the grass. This is a really good looking bike and I think it looks better in the flesh. The other think is you can modify them too and the RE 650 engine sounds great with different silencers.
HI Freddie Happy New Year to you and Monica hope you have a great year. That super meteor 650 really looks great and it suits you down to a tee. You should really think about it. You will.not be disappointed. Wish you all.yhe best
What I honestly really really like about these two is its not just a review they go the extra mile to show what clothing could also be worn and lets be honest even an old git like myself can understand the style influence oh yes oh yes a lot will say its just about the bike well it is not even in the 60's/70's we hand the jacket and the rolled over fisher men's socks with the mandatory black boots and white T shirts So its never just been about the bike has it ???
This week Royal Enfield snuck out some quick shots of the Shotgun. It uses the same frame and engine as the Super but with an 18” front wheel and 17” rear, mid controls and taller rear shocks. The biggest difference is the Sportster style peanut tank. It may be the best Royal Enfield yet!
Freddie takes the review process to a different level, better than the typical TH-cam reviewers, with design and history expertise as well as mechanical.
Well done. I rode one of these a month ago. We have just gotten these here in the States. I took a twenty mile ride on a backroad with three S curves. As the bike only had two miles on the clock, I took it easy, but I did ease it up to 65 mph a couple of times. Handling was very good. The front end was solid, but the rear shocks needed to be dialed up a couple of notches. Riding position is ideal for me and the bike held a line nicely in the curves. I really wish , as you stated, that the speedo was in the center. As far as I'm concerned they could offer a model without the Tripper that I won't ever use. BTW, I do have a couple of XL Harleys and my '06 Roadster 1200 is my favorite bike. The new replacement models have been getting dusty on my two local H-D dealers' showroom floors. Nobody wants those FUGLY things. I can see one of these RE Super Meteors is my future.
Great review Freddie. You touched on some good points talking about “purity” of styling. While “pure” is more of a marketing term, I believe you meant simple. If RE would have stuck with simpler styling, reducing the amount of contrasting, and created some simple chrome or silver colorways along with some black colorways, this bike could have made a bigger splash in the vacant pool of cruisers. The wheels are great for the darker, agrresive colorways, but a brighter bike would benefit from some wire spoked wheels. They also can ditch the giant R logo on the case and need another designer to take a look at that side panel. Knowing RE’s tenacity for iteration on design, hopefully we see some of these changes with model updates. It’s a shame so many companies are losing touch with design, especially in the market of affordable and sensible bikes. The world is a better place when more people ride, and bikes like the Super Meteor help get us closer to that world.
Loved your enthusiastic review, although I did hold my breath as you approached that flooded road! Live and learn, eh? Mud-caked rear tire slightly spoiled Monica's otherwise excellent photo op. Enjoyable viewing as always.
A notable mentioned I did not see in the video is the Indian Scout. Lots of lightly used offerings around me for $9,000. I believe the better handling and power figures justify that price, and $9,000 is not that obscene of a price.
Another great vid Mr Dobbs. Glad to see you have learnt your lesson with flooded roads, not full throttle but a bimble through. That is undoubtedly how the 'Riumph' was killed. PS. What is the deal with the muddy fields or are you getting some practice for the new Scram review. Keep up the sterling work.
'.......a really good cruiser needs to be able to turn an outstanding citizen into a tearaway' - Excellent line and really well presented. Somebody give this man a job presenting on the telly.
I think you have missed a good one off your list: While being a Fan of Royal Enfield and still owning two, I bought a Honda VT 750 Phantom in Black while waiting for this SUPER meteor to come out and...I FELL IN love with the HONDA. A V Twin nice Thump ,Shaft and quite low. seat, balloon tyres and forward pegs .."Try One"
Good video as soon Freddie & Monica. Just for people who wants more power or torque some stagings exist and transform the bike really better (air filter, exhaust, valves etc)
Excellent review sir. I'm an old school cruiser rider , Harley Davidson should bring the Sportster back. That was a huge mistake on their part , I've had two Sportsters myself. The Honda and the Kawasaki are ugly as sin in my opinion. Both manufacturers missed the mark on styling. Royal Enfield nailed it on the Super Meteor and I can live with the minor gripes and groans.
Of course I did great price, great looking a few tiny issues but can’t go wrong with that to me 😊😊 I have the Gold star. Do I purchase one of these, who knows Thanks for a brilliant review 🙌🙌
Funny thing that I owned a 1987 883 Sportster for ten years and put almost 40,000 miles on it and never saw it as a cruiser. You sat upright and the pegs were underneath not forward controls. I saw more as a street version of the XR750. In fact mine had high Scrambler pipes. The Super Metor is a lovely bike and the styling is definitely and ergonomics are definitely cruiser like the Triumph Speedmaster. I would consider the Triumph T100 and Sportster 883 similarly but not cruisers. The Triumph Thunderbird from 1995 through the early 2000s was actually better a better Sportster than my 883 Sportster was even after mods. The T100 then followed in the early 2000s and still is filling the shoes of the Sportster in my opinion. The Super Metor is a fine cruiser for all the reasons you stated but it doesn't replace the Sportster the T100 already has that job.
*The Sportster is a chimera bike.* It's been a standard (XLH1200), a cruiser (XL1200L), a bobber (Iron), a cafe racer (XLCR), a chopper (Seventy two), and a post-WW2 custom (Forty-Eight). Some of these styles even existed side-by-side over the years.
@@hulkhatepunybanner Also, the Sportster was the lowest cost entry point to H-D ownership for many, myself included. Between 1993 and 2004, I owned an XL883, an FXRS-SP, an FXRT and also an M2 Cyclone and an XB9R. Then I went to the dark side and changed to owing a BMW (R1150RT "pipe & slippers" edition). Other H-D attempts at alternative entry level bikes don't seem to have sold well here in the UK and I wonder if the new "power cruiser" Sportsters will soon go away as the V-Rods have done.
@@derekp2674 *Yup. The Sportster was the entry bike in the States as well.* The used lots are full of them because H-D marketeers were right about owners wanting to trade up ASAP. (Perhaps after ribbing for having a small Harley.) The new Nightster and Sportster S almost like Harley is copying from Honda's take on what a Harley should look like. Also, US$13,900 isn't an entry level price. H-D does have the X440 models in Asia (US$2,878). Four-forty cc is what parents buy their kids - not what adult newly-minted riders want. This was proven by H-D's defunct Street 500 and 750 models.
@@hulkhatepunybanner Wise words indeed. I don't know if the 440s will make it to the UK but the 500s (and Buell Blasts) did not. I think the 750s did but I do not notice any out in the wild. I've see one of their new adventure bikes on the road here, so perhaps H-D are having a go at stealing BMW's customers. Last time they tried that, that gave us the FXRT, which gained a certain following among touring riders.
Oh and one other thing. These two make the best vids out there. This is a brilliant, informative, heartfelt review of a motorcycle. Want a travel show instead? Freddie and Monika (please go back to the Canary Islands) remains with me a couple of years later. Freddie and Monika having a coffee. Yep. We'll watch it, and enjoy. Thanks to you both for the...entertainment seems too simple a word...fun and friendship (in a way), the humour, the adventure, the niggles, the triumphs (he he), and the joy. Can't wait for more. Freddie has become the consummate presenter and Monika has the eye that makes everything look so balanced and gorgeous. She is truly special. Then there's the music. Ok, that's more than one more thing. Happy new year to Freddie and Monika and to all of you watching (you have excellent taste). Ride and drive and travel and just be generally safe. Love and peace and cool vibes from New Zealand guys. See you in 2024.
Great vlog, great review . Freddie I think Royal Enfield will be contacting you and sponsoring your channel and possibly more importantly they could be letting you have your own Super Meteor to the specs you pointed out. I could tell how passionate you were so if Royal Enfield didn't pick up on that, there's something wrong. Well done you 👍
Hi Freddie & Monika. I started my cruiser journey on the Rebel 500 (chosen over the vulcan at the time) which was ideal to begin with & when I outgrew it I went to the 865 Bonny America (2011), an engine I still love to this day. I dare say if this bike was on the market at the time it would have given the America / Speedmaster a real run for it's money before it upgraded to a 1200 & as you say somewhat $ priced itself out of this market. I'm glad you went to lengths to point out that cruiser riders care less about statistics than they do about aesthetics & the riding experience. Another great video & review...
Great review and spot on😊 I have put 4000kms on mine and honestly it really is an outstanding motorcycle ok not super quick but such a smile a mile bike❤
Love your videos. Unlike American reviews, where they are crazy about comparing everything to high powered bikes and theirs bhp and torque. Your videos gives a calm feeling and are pleasant to want. (As a bike lover).
Royal Enfield has said they intend to dominate the midsized motorcycle market. With the Super Meteor and the shot gun there is no reason they won't be able to achieve that goal. After riding lots of used bikes, I did five months of research and then bought the Super Meteor as my first brand new bike. I have had several brand-new cars I felt like it was time for me to get a brand-new bike. The Super meteor checked all the boxes, It has plenty of power to do 80 MPH on the U.S interstates. It is very reliable, the cost is reasonable, the comfort of the ride is second to none, the way it has no vibration at 75MPH is wonderful.
Thanks for the thoughtful and OUTSTANDING review! As a Meteor 350 owner, I've been thinking about getting this bike. AFAIAC, it has the Meteor 350's virtues of style, fuel economy, and fun, while also packing more power. For me, this bike is not just a cruiser; it's a performance cruiser; it can and will be fun when the road gets curvy. For me, the last, true performance cruiser was the Hyosung Avatar. Unfortunately, Hyosung hit the US in time for the financial crash of the late 2000s, so the Avatar can't be had here. Now, RE has not only brought out a performance cruiser; they've brought one out that has some style. For me, this bike is unique among cruisers; once again, RE has rediscovered and created a niche all to itself: the performance cruiser. And to offer it at the price RE does? They have WINNER with the Super Meteor! I'd like one in Astral Blue, TYVM... 😀
i've been waiting for this review for over a year now! as always spot on comments Freddy! Maybe i'll wait for your Himalayan 411 review to decide what my upgrade from the meteor 350 will be
It is a great looking bike, although the green would be my choice. I agree that V twins have character, and I have owned 6 but parallel twins have a place in my heart and soul too. The Yamaha XS650 remains one of my favourite bikes, despite it's shortcomings, because it is such a characterful engine and one of the best looking imo. Having said that, a V twin is calling to me and I may be adding a Guzzi V7 to my garage soon?!
Certainly the best Enfield yet in my opinion. I have the interceptor and prefer the super meteor now. I don’t think it needs to be metal mudguards and side panel as plastic will cut down the weight and assist performance overall. The main point for the mudguards is that they do the job and keep the mud off the bike so need to be a decent size and not too small. The engine is certainly a great asset.
I do agree with you on this but the problem is if they had used plastic then people would have complained that they are doing cost cutting in these areas.
fantastic reveiw Freddie. I also love the Super Meteor. Looks great and with the upgraded exhaust sound verys nice. You cant beat it for value for money and with a 3 year warranty ,road side assist .It a no brainer . Great bikes a a great price. 👍👍👍👍
Great review. I have to say, after watching & following many bike reviews on TH-cam & and not dismissing any of them as they all have my respect for many reasons but you & your partner (who by the way has a great eye for editing film & im guessing the one who choose the sound tracks) are the ones who have set the bar for others in your chosen field. We'll done👍
I enjoy your reviews--I have a Kawsaki 650 S now. However, I am planning on buying a Super meteor. I made my Kawasaki a modern day cruiser and plan to make the Super Meteor a classic cruiser with leather saddle bags and a leather roll bag behind the backrest!

watch out Monika...Freddie is going to go full on rebel on ya...LOL...it is a beautiful bike and they have just recently showed up in my part of the states...will be looking at them closer now..
Love your no-nonsense review of this bike. One thing I could not understand when I bought my 2021 Himalayan and the Salesman tried to upsell me to the new model based solely on the “Tripper” navigation - what was the point of the “Tripper” if you had to have your phone connected for it to work ? A Ram mount with USB outlet and my phone with offline Maps made far more sense and that is what I use.
Great review. Great camera work. I think this could be your best review yet. Cruisers aren't really my thing, says the man who's owned 2 HD Sportsters, and HD 750 Street. I was tempted away from cruisers by the Honda NC750X and a Kawasaki versys. I just find them more comfortable on multiday trip's.
If the Super Meteor has 90% of the charm of the Classic 350 and is still very manoeuvrable but addresses the issue around lack of power especially going up hill on the 350 and is your ultimate pick from the entire RE range despite your raving review of the Classic 350 then this is really all I need to go on. For me the Classic 350 would be the perfect choice for a Greek Island or similar just cruising around the country roads or along the coast line where you'd rarely if ever want to hit 60mph. Having the Super Meteor 650 for me gives the option to ride it like the Classic 350 (cruising and taking in the scenery) but also gives the option of that extra power should it be needed e.g. long steep hills. Having the extra power doesn't necessarily mean you have to use it all the time but it's nice to know it's there. I'll be picking up the same bike in Interstellar Grey personally based on you review. Thanks for the upload it was extremely helpful
@@derekp2674 I'm not talking about the Enfield am I. I was addressing the Sportster part of the conversation of course its dearer and weighs more. nothing like stating the obvious . Try and keep up mate.
@@slumpsg1901 Yes but whilst a Street Bob might look like a classic Sportster it is a Big Twin. Many years ago, H-D offered the shovel head SuperGlide as their first factory custom, essentially a Big Twin styled like a Sportster. I've seen a few Sportsters customised the other way round, ie to look like Big Twins but I've never encountered Big Twins being restyled by owners to mimic Sportsters as such. Making FXRs leaner and meaner was done (of course) but was just seen as improving those models. As others have pointed out, SWM are now producing a Chinesium Sportster facsimile but it won't come with those all important H-D badges on it.
@@derekp2674 Having owned Many Harleys since the mid 70,s including chops and customs I don't need a history lesson from you mate in fact I've owned many of the bikes you mention I currently own 3 a 1963 Panhead which I've owned for 31 yrs a 2014 Twin cam Street glide and 2022 Street glide ST. Look all I am saying is that if Freddie wants a bike that KINDA looks like a Sportster he should have a go on a Street bob nothing more nothing less OK. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.
Sitting my CBT on Saturday and then on to my full license. Still deciding if I want the 650 Super Meteor or the 500cc Classic. Can't wait to get going.
I’m glad you mentioned the Vulcan S as a competitor to the Super Meteor. I ride a Vulcan S and have always been attracted to its looks and performance. But the Super Meteor, I must admit, catches my eye in a way the Vulcan S doesn’t. The Super Meteor has a visual aesthetic that really appeals to me. RE did a great job on styling here. I don’t know that the SM can ever draw me away from the Vulcan S, but I’ll bet it would be a great second bike. Thanks for your excellent review of the Super Meteor.
Vulcan S is totally different due to the characteristics of the engine. It's lighter with an extra 20 hp, torque curve different as it revs out that semi-sports bike engine. On the vulcan I wanted to rev out and hoon, bikes like the Meteor are for relaxing
@@chrispekel5709 As long as you don't mind the Vulcan's vibrations at around 80-90kmh, in the mid to high rev range it's a great bike!! But it put me off buying it!! My Celestial Red SM650 is smooth at any speed.
@@mikthe2004 I didn't really notice it. I've currently got one of the CFmoto 650 bikes which use a clone of the engine, and there's very little vibration at all. I've heard they can be like that until they get a few miles on them, don't know how true it is
At turning 65 having owned a lovely Victory CC, Honda Crossrunner, BMW R1100 and a few old school Ducatis i was after a mid sized low seat height bike to accommodate a bit of a knee prblem Took a Super Meteor for a good test ride and was amazed. Uphill in 6th pulling away from the traffic quite easily. Put on a deposit on a beautiful blue SM, and will most likely get a set of pipes and maybe a set of shocks if i can't get the OEM units sorted.
Cracking review Freddie - been waiting for this one for a long time it feels! I tested the entire range apart from this one whilst in Kuala Lumpur, I feel like a must find a dealership now in Sydney, as I have unfinished business!
I love how you review bikes, you have a very unique style and way of talking about bikes. I never watch bike reviews that are more than 10 minutes but I’d watch a 20 minute bike review from you any day

@@lovehitu51well he can do whatever he likes my friend

No presence at Motorcycle Live this year either. That was a surprise too. Even during covid they had a stand at the NEC.
They also managed to alienate many of their older riders like me,I will be sticking with my 2007 Dyna.
You might just be the best motorcycle reviewer in media ...fantastic videos
It's a gauge-spiracy!
Same with the Moto Guzzi V7, no?
Totally agree with gauges. The triumph twin clocks are sublime
Oddly enough I think it's the rear mudguard that spoils the bike . Horrible.
@@1mikefrost No, I disagree.
Roger Ramjet !!!! 🤣 I havent heard that name in decades i guess .....
@ssdravidian indeed, if you check out old pictures of Roger Ramjet you'll come across those wings 🪽 😋
I honestly can't believe that someone would deface a classic motorcycle with such a JOKE decal .
I agree, I had one in the 90’s second hand. A Canadian import to England. Good bike.
Legendary bikes. Must be an appreciating asset now.
I’ll wait for the Shotgun since I think I would much prefer the upright riding position, but I am still SO impressed with the Super Meteor.
Shotgun looks shite compared to this and the other re 650s..
@@bu11ymaguire You can’t get any of them into your mom’s basement.
@@critterIMHO that's a nice line. Did your mother teach it to you?
Absolutely love this review. And the closing line was spot on. I could relate to everything you've said with my SM650. Love this!
Fine review Freddie. Couldnt agree more about the USB positioning. Especially when they got it so right on the 350s. I have run a 2 meter cable up behind the side panel, under the tank, along the brake line and up to the handlebar riser on mine. Job done 👍🏻
There is an accessory plug in the headlight you can access for phone charging etc. But yes, there should have been a usb port on the Handlebars.
@@deveous_dave great info, cheers Dave
What about a cable under the seats to a bag on the back seat or a sissy bar/rear rack? Decent satellite visibility, good weather protection, and most importantly avoids the handle bar cell phone “aesthetic”.
@bootsinthedirt I've fitted a right angled usb cord that is connected in the side box. It pointed the wrong way so I just unscrewed the fitted socket and turned it 180°, made a little slot in the housing and screwed it back in place. Now if I need extra, I can hang the cord from the box to plug in.
@@deveous_dave
Handlebar usb plug always make headache while in monsoon or snow falls areas. And also kids may damaged it.
I definitely think should a classic 650 come, they'll take advantage of the probably increased price point to get those aesthetics over the final hurdle when it comes to metal materials and finishes, definitely need spoked wheels
Plop the 650 onto the existing bike do a few necessary tweaks and upgrades to compensate, perk up the finishings a little and I say voila
Well good news, then. The Classic 650 is due mid 2024.
problem is engine
Freddie you could sell me absolutely everything! But it is true, I got the chance to drive the Super Meteor 650 a few weeks ago and had an absolute blast. Instantly felt like the road is my home and love all the little quality of life features it delivers that not every cruiser, especially the older ones, has.
The super meteor and indeed the meteor are lovely bikes to ride - joyous.
True dat. Would be a better fit.
Hi Freddie, I have listed my 350 Meteor's shortcomings as:
1. no kick-starter
2. pathetic chain-guard (RE should take a lesson from BSA's 441 Shooting Star - or better still, MZ's Supa 5)
3. ridiculously small tool box (just a slot, really)
4. no fork gaiters
It looks like the Super Meteor suffers from exactly the same shortcomings.
Another major shortcoming that I've noticed on my Meteor 350 is the rear suspension that is very stiff.
2. A kick-starter is lighter and cheaper than a starter motor and its attendant heavier battery, as illustrated by the Yamaha SR400
3. A kick-starter enables clutch freeing in cold weather
Maybe 1; There would be very little demand
2: The extra manufacturing cost plus extra weight and raw materials (unless you get rid of electric start altogether and that would be silly)
3 : Much like new cars fewer batteries run flat because of auto switch off's.
Thanks
The change in approach to driving through the big puddle made me laugh 😂
Like every other reviewer I've seen, you compared the Super Meteor 650 to the Honda Rebel 500. I don't understand why nobody is comparing it to the Honda Shadow 750 instead. The shadow also has the classic cruiser styling, and is similar in terms of size, weight, power and price. The Shadow offers fewer features for a little more money, but it does bring a proper V-twin motor and a reputation for reliability and durability that it's built over the last few decades. I'd love to see someone do a head-to-head comparison video.
Not sure if it's the same case in UK, but in most of the EU countries (if not all), Honda Shadow 750 is just not available.
I fell in love with bikes now because of freddie. His way of reviewing bikes is so unique. In the future I'm buying this RE SM 650 for sure.
Agree. Me the same.
The Honda Shadow 750 is also worth mentioning. I am hoping to get one for review soon. Great video, as always, Fred.
They don’t sell them here in Europe, since they were not updated for the emission regulations.
Great review, I love the way you are so genuinely excited about the bike
Enjoyable viewing as always.
are those loops at the top of the rear shock for attaching luggage etc? if so that looks like a nice touch. Very handy indeed.
These are genuinely the 3 bikes my wife has in her shortlist. Top work again you 2. ✌️❤️
A notable mentioned I did not see in the video is the Indian Scout. Lots of lightly used offerings around me for $9,000. I believe the better handling and power figures justify that price, and $9,000 is not that obscene of a price.
I love the way you express the sensual side of motorbikes and this bike moved up many notches for me when I am able to spend my money on a new bike.
What a gifted reviewer. Time well spent!
Another great vid Mr Dobbs. Glad to see you have learnt your lesson with flooded roads, not full throttle but a bimble through. That is undoubtedly how the
'Riumph' was killed.
I think you have missed a good one off your list:
While being a Fan of Royal Enfield and still owning two, I bought a Honda VT 750 Phantom in Black while waiting for this SUPER meteor to come out and...I FELL IN love with the HONDA.
Will have to test one Freddie
Great video again 😊😊
Really glad you enjoyed it!
Of course I did great price, great looking a few tiny issues but can’t go wrong with that to me 😊😊
I have the Gold star. Do I purchase one of these, who knows
Thanks for a brilliant review 🙌🙌
Great vlog, great review . Freddie I think Royal Enfield will be contacting you and sponsoring your channel and possibly more importantly they could be letting you have your own Super Meteor to the specs you pointed out. I could tell how passionate you were so if Royal Enfield didn't pick up on that, there's something wrong. Well done you 👍
Thank you for one more incredible poem about a motorcycle!
The best bike reviewer. Always interesting and worth watching. Thank you
Too much ‘style over substance’ !
Very good review Freddie. Always good to watch your vids. Good camera work always. Best wishes to you and Monica for new years.
Love your videos. Unlike American reviews, where they are crazy about comparing everything to high powered bikes and theirs bhp and torque. Your videos gives a calm feeling and are pleasant to want. (As a bike lover).
Fantastic no BS review, very pleasing unique delivery, thankyou.
I love Freddie’s reviews. The guy’s got that charm!!
If they would put the V85tt motor in the v9 bobber I would buy it. But then again I have my heart set on an Audace.
I always wanted a Harris framed bike, never thought it would be a 650cc cruiser though.
fantastic reveiw Freddie.
We'll done👍
Royal Enfield Killing It! Great review Freddie!
good job you've got the enduro version ;;; don't forget the kawa w800- been made under licence in japan since 1969 [ ish ]
My Royal Enfield story. I’m Johnny BikeSanooK! The septuagenerian rider from Thailand, born in Suomi-Finland. A Nordic country NOT Scandinavian! After four years of TKR (Total Knee replacement operations and revisions, more operations! In Stockholm and here in Bangkok. I became a biker/you tuber: CarSanooK channel. And in 2021 I bought my first real motorcycle a single cylinder =RE= Meteor 350 aka “The Vibrator” More than 40,000 km on highways & byways in scorching heat and tropical downpours all over Thailand.
Well, I learned to ride, including lane splitting, filtering in Bangkok through traffic jams. But, now I have chronic Wry Neck, Stiff Neck and intermittent Neuropathy in my throttle hand! Last year I made booking 3,000 THB (Thai Baht)
at Bangkok International Motor Show for the All New ROYAL ENFIELD SUPER METEOR 650 Cruiser. June 2023 arrived! Three months. Still waiting for my new Indian built cruiser to arrive. Thanks to my buddies “KAWA” riders I came to my senses. I cancelled my SUPER METEOR booking! And I bought a new KAWASAKI VULCAN 650 S (ABS included). I have No Regrets! “Je ne regrette Rien” That’s French!
My “KAWA” Vulcan built in Thailand. Also BMW Motorrrad, DUCATI, Harley-Davidson and Triumph are assembled here in Thailand factories on the eastern seaboard two-three hours from Bangkok. Meaning spare parts does not have to be ordered all the way from India, Chennai. Wanna waste your precious TIME? Plus Kawasaki has tons of Japanese motorcycling legacy, heritage and QC control. KAWASAKI dealers all over the Thai Kingdom. Therefore, I am now proudly flying the Green Kawasaki Flag. My VULCAN 5,000 km already on the clock. And I’m Lovin’ It!
Greetings from northern Thailand, Johnny BikeSanooK! Got to GO! TIME FOR MY PHYSIOTHERAPY. Those Nasty Vibrations!
Ah Freddie , where Cruisers are concerned
(and money no object)
it'd have to be BMW R12 NINET. Quite exquisite all round.
watch out Monika...Freddie is going to go full on rebel on ya...LOL...it is a beautiful bike and they have just recently showed up in my part of the states...will be looking at them closer now..
I've watched many of your videos and this is my favorite so far. Thank you my good sir
You have Steve McQueen vibes… and an excellent taste in music. Great tune at the end of the video
Freddie you have great choice of music in your each episode, on both recent and old ones
Don't forget the HD Street Bob Freddie if your looking for Sportster replacement. Would urge you to try one if possible.
Mr D'Arcy thinking of selling his Harley for a Guzzi 850😂.
Freddie should make him an offer. Much better than a RE.😊
I agree the Street Bob looks like a classic Sportster but at £14,995 and 297 kg it's not really a middleweight like the RE SM.
Gorgeous shot composition, guys.
Im in New Delhi with my job. The Royal Enfield Interceptor is only £3k brand new! Crazy
Wow!😳 That’s mind blowing
Give Freddie a T.V. prog . I would watch it .👍
He has a real innocent manner , a breathe of fresh air .
And a passion for quality .Cheers Freddie .
I've heard they can be like that until they get a few miles on them, don't know how true it is
Great passionate review Freddie. made me wish I still had my 2020 Sportster 1200
love your reviews... your reviews are spot on and different and Royal enfield has become legend.
At turning 65 having owned a lovely Victory CC, Honda Crossrunner, BMW R1100 and a few old school Ducatis i was after a mid sized low seat height bike to accommodate a bit of a knee prblem
Took a Super Meteor for a good test ride and was amazed.
You are one of my favourite bike reviewer, a way you communicate it's just amazing. Keep it up
You have sold this bike to me. I feel your words absolutely. Thank you.
Lovely video Freddie. A little surprised you went for the water again! :)
Enjoyable review thanks for your time and information, I do like the look of the 650 and would love to have one.
Thanks Freddie, think you have sold it too me, luckily enough I have a Enfield dealer eight miles away cheers for the information
