been a scrap hauler for years. i did it this way years ago. i had to move my blade every time i had a different size to do. but never thought of the 4 blades this way this is way better, im def gonna build it.
I'm at work and they handed me a bunch of wite and a utility blade. After 5 minutes of messing around I found your video and you're a life saver. Thank you so much, just made my day a bit easier!
Where have you been all my life??!!! I have rolls of copper wire someone gave me to make jewelry with and I have struggled to get it out of the plastic. I stumbled upon your video while searching for something else! Thank YOU!
Put a small flat screw in front of blades in hole bevel you drilled out then you can raise and lower to keep wired tight against blade you can just pull through vs sitting there on top of it trying to make sure it’s going through
Pretty cool concept. I think you could have done 4 sizes with just 2 blades. It would be nice to have a cover over the blades that aren't in use for safety. Also it would be cool to run the wires thorugh some sort of a set of wheels or bearings to strighten it out 1st. Another idea would be to somehow make height of the blades more adjustable over just having different grooves. Maybe put the blades on a gasket of firm but squishable rubber so you could adjust the screws for wire thickness. Just ideas.
I know you'll think I'm full of it Phil, but I was on my way out to my newly built workshop in order to do exactly this later this morning, after a trip to Asda! Guess what I'll be making instead. How serendipitous is that! Thanks for a great idea, I've got loads of scrap pieces left over too! Cheers Phil!!!
Im sure you've considered this but with the blades offset you can just flip them over when its time, to make them last twice as long. Love this idea. Ive seen others that use another board with holes, or a bit of solid strand copper formed into a coil (like a heating element) to act as a guide to feed the wires at the right height. Great video thanks for sharing!!
Thanks! Yes I did think about that although the blades actually last a long time as they don't need to be super sharp to cut through the insulation. Also, it's easy enough to loosen the screws and swap out a blade. I'm planning on making another design soon so there will be a new video for that one.
I think this idea is superb man thanks I am probably gonna add a drill reel I made that way I strip longer pieces faster and make it easier too but wow great idea and when the blade dulls out just flip it over and re secure 👍👍
That was fantastic! I have purchased a pair of wire strippers , also tried using a Stanley knife , but if can this as I have tones & tomes of cords that need stripping . Thanks 🙏
Great idea! I frequently have good size fires in a burn barrel so that’s where the wire goes. Quick, effective and produces the most amazing colours in the flames.
I have made one of these before but not exactly what you have there ! Think this will work better than mine !! Thanks for the idea! This is great. New Sub here as well !!!
I rarely pass a skip that hasn't got rolls of wire in it. I'm on it. Been stripping by hand ...2 days got 3 kg...this gizmo should speed up operations. Ta
the grooves seem a little too deep , and you still have to "guide" them through with your hands ( either keeping them up or push them down. ) BUT it works , i think i;ll make mine not as deep specially when it comes to the very thin wire's , THANKS ,Thanks, this is food for thought.!
Yes although it is faster than using a knife. Which is all most people have. I don't get a lot of wire often. If I did I would probably use some kind of machine to strip it.
I street guy did this using utility blades screwed onto a pallet. I was impressed -- until I noticed the mess he left in parking lot, housing shavings & bits of multistranded wires all over. Disgusting mess, so I don't support using utility blades or any knife cutting horizontally.
Don't forget, nothing needs to go to waste, the scrap plastic sheathing left behind can be shredded and mixed with sand for a dressage arena.... a menage'
You certainly can't blame the mess on the method. Any method for removing insulation from wire is going to create a mess of some sort. The blame lies squarely on the individual for not cleaning it up.
Far too slow to be profitable. Needs to be Moore of a self adjusting deal to keep the tension against the blade. The concept is there but definitely not a money maker. Now if you could get it to need no help? You could set up and run whole spools even with power... Cool kid project but sorry wouldn't make money.
Good question. I find that the blades don't need to be super sharp to cut through the soft outer coating. Also, you can quickly sharpen them up on a leather strop or a diamond plate.

Is this for poor people and junk pickers.
Junk pickers don't come into my area.
This is the one! I have seen a handful of these, and this is the one I will make. Either tonight or this weekend. Thank you!!!
Thanks your welcome.
Nice video, i need to make one.
Cheers 👍🏻
Woow! Very good idea! Love it 🤩🤩
Thanks!

It works better than I thought it would. It's a good workout for the forearms too! 💪🏻

No problem 👍🏻

No problem your welcome 👍🏻
This is a great idea Phill and a really useful one.
Cheers John 👍🏻
That is an absolutely brilliant idea
Thanks! 👍🏻
Very useful I made one a couple of years back which was a similar sort of design. Might give this one a go next.
Cheers 👍🏻 it's not the fastest way to strip cable but it does work better than a knife.
Been looking for an example of a DIY ws, thank you very much for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Very creative lad.
Cheers 👍🏻
I am going to make this!
Cool!
Put a small flat screw in front of blades in hole bevel you drilled out then you can raise and lower to keep wired tight against blade you can just pull through vs sitting there on top of it trying to make sure it’s going through
Either way, frequent adjustments are required.
Wow! This is so very cool!
Glad you like it 👍🏻
@@PhillWyattProjects I love creative thinking!
What a great idea! I used to work with a guy who did a lot of wire stripping. I wonder how he did it
Thanks Roland I'll be on the look out for scrap wire from now on it's easy money if you can find it.
Pretty nice idea. I’m going to try this one..
Go for it!
A simple practical solution !
Thanks Andy yea it worked better than I imagined actually.
Nice job Phill 🍺🍺👍
Cheers Brian!

Thanks for the tips. I built this on the fly with not much planning really. I'm sure it could be improved in many ways.
Fab video and a great idea going to give it a try. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks 👍
Cheers Andrew👍🏻
Nice one Phil very cool
Cheers Gary
Did this. Worked great. Thx
That's good to hear!
What a great little Gadget, Simple but effective :)
Cheers Kevin 👍🏻

That's a good coincidence then I'm glad you like the idea 👍🏻 cheers!
Nice thanks and subbed.
Awesome, thank you!

i did it too and itturned out great
красивый и стильный резак🎉😊❤
bravo you are a good with one s hands hi from france
Thanks 👍🏻
It is amazing how much enjoyment I'm getting from this TH-cam video with someone speaking real English and using metric! 😂
Thanks 👍🏻
I'm watching your video as I have a wound and bandage on my finger😂
I liked the video, what is that paint used called and what is its intended purpose?
Thanks. The paint is water based emulsion. There's no purpose really it's just so it looks good.
❤ I'm doubling down copper and not selling it😅🎉 it's going to get wild in the next few years🎉 look at all these electric motors in cars
Yea that's a fair point!
Very true, was going to scrap my 400 pounds until I read your comment, thanks
The price of copper is projected to quadruple in the next 5 to 7 years @johnharrison2466
Still seems slow but faster than the way i do it now , cheaper than buying a machine.
Im going to try this one.
Yea it's not the perfect solution but it's very cheap and simple to make 👍🏻

muchas gracias de nada.

Yeah and the most amazing toxins into the forever struggling environment!(sarcasm)
Good invention 👍
Not a fan of the irritating sound effects I don't know why people think they got to add that to every video.
Thanks! I like a bit of background music.
@@PhillWyattProjects in my opinion it totally ruins the video.
I would classify it more onoise than music

Shared out to my channel also!
Thank you very much 👍🏻
Spent whole afternoon stripping wires myself and all I can say is don't quit your dayjob because of it heh
Oh yea it's good exercise!
thanks a lot
You are most welcome
The blades seem to be wide enough to serve two diameters of wire per blade, no?
Thanks
No problem

I don't like to throw anything away either but they don't call me frugal they call me a pack rat😂
This is not a very effective method. Point is to be quick not take all day doing it gently and slowly.
Yes although it is faster than using a knife. Which is all most people have. I don't get a lot of wire often. If I did I would probably use some kind of machine to strip it.

Is it profitable when you take into account having to replace full razor blades. I know you can get a 5 pack for like $1, but they full out quick.
Good question. I find that the blades don't need to be super sharp to cut through the soft outer coating. Also, you can quickly sharpen them up on a leather strop or a diamond plate.
