      @@Merlin7huna Janet and Stewart were cool Intelligent folk who helped bring the Craft out of the shadows I was scrolling through the comment section and saw a lot of negative comments about them Pity. Looks like the more things change the more they stay the same The Craft is sacred and should be a safe place for followers. Yes Laura there is a lot of opinions about them..you know public perception about Witchcraft wasn’t very positive at that time.,..remember there was a lot in the newspaper trying to show anything to do with the occult was condemned as satanic or works of the Devil..which is absurd!
      Also Chris Bray at the Sorcerers Apprentice Occult shop in Leeds was also being persecuted by the Fundamentalists..and got fire bombed..A lot was going on to out law the witches in England..Janet and Stewart were very brave to be interviewed on live tv..but they did educate a small audience..but remember it’s not easy to erase nearly 2,000 years of brainwashing by the good church..so even though public perception is being educated by Witches..who’s going to really believe what we say..those with the loudest voices will always get the upper hand..today people are less likely to be so closed minded ..but even so .who really wants a witch living next door to them.?..
      But if the Church could and have its way..we’d be the first to be hunted down..so its best to work in silence...do you live in England..than you for sharing...B.B

    A very, very well written, dare I say crafted, book -- it is a really good read. Raymond Buckland's "Complete Book Of Witchcraft" (commonly referred to as 'Big Blue') is, in my opinion, another very good read. The Farrar's were practitioners of the Alexanderian Tradition (of Wicca), whereas Buckland was a practitioner of the Gardnerian Tradition, but these two traditions were quite similar with only a few minor differences. I respect (and admire) both the Farrars and Buckland.

    I find that these two are very patient people who take the time to answer these idiotic questions calmly and thoroughly. and, indeed, while these questions sound cruddy and rude and mildly degrading, they come from those who should answer them the most, kids. I don't follow this particular path of witchcraft but I do relate in some ways to what they are talking about and sometimes you have to sift through the stupid questions to get your points across. These kids may sound rude but they are genuinely curious, even going as far as correcting themselves sometimes if they come off rudely or if their point wasn't clear enough. And the two witches are patient and respectful despite the snotty questions and scoffs. Kids, especially christian kids, need to learn that their world is shockingly narrow and that the greater world has so much more going on and they need to learn to accept this or else prepare themselves for a world of self inflicted hurt. I wish this sort of thing was still done today and not just on you tube or as a crappy segment on the news made up of jokes and stereotypes.

My pagan friends & I practice witchcraft and magick according to the only rule all pagans adhere to: "An it harm none" (An=as long as, old English)

    This is a very interesting discussion, and very informative on the subject of wicca. Way much more relevant than many of the biased documentaries that were made about it. Wicca is a religious way of viewing the world, a way of life and you can see here that the Farrars take their lifestyle very serious. It's quite brave of them to come in public and challenge all the bogus claims of a link with satanism. Is it not strange that when the subject is war nobody takes the word satanism in the mouth?

  • @kh22912
    @kh22912 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Although I respect the Farrars, it is accepted as fact today that Wicca wasn't truly modeled after the Druids and "ancient practices". In fact, they borrowed from different cultures and previous occult systems and claim Christianity is wrong for doing the same. Wicca is also the "daughter" of Thelema. The tools also are not simply for the practices she states: example, the athame. It is a knife, therefore it can be used in ANY cutting operation. Though no one wants a huge gash in their hand with an infection.

  • @wolfcrow4822
    @wolfcrow4822 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes some Masonic aspects were included in modern Wiccan ritual, as were some high magic components. You need to remember that in the past much that was done had been lost. 'What Witches Do' was Stuart's first -journalistic- book he wasn't Wiccan when he wrote it so it lacks some accuracy.

    The only way to truly deal with those questions is to be articulate and informative. We may find these questions a bit irritation and ofensive sometimes but I blame the disinformation and the media for misguiding people and that's why witches/pagan/wiccans receive a bad rep. Slowly, but surely, the craft of the wise will find a place in our society if we keep ourselves reasonable and harming none. That's what I believe, anyway =)

    She may be ignorant about the system of her coven was base on ritual magic which Aleister Crowley practiced, but at least she admitted there are occult orders and there are witches who practice black magic, unlike so many other wiccans who constantly denying the existence of harmful magic and how witchcraft is nice and kind and all light.

    • @mynameissharon1
      @mynameissharon1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +bailey guan did you even watch the video? She said it Aleister wasn't a witch and no coven would accept him. And she didn't admit to occult orders of black/white magic. She said those who use the practice for selfish or harmful ways weren't witches at all. They are people who read some books who practice without even all the information.
      We are the ones (non-witch) who have classified ALL those who learn the craft as the same thing. This lady just told us our error. We made a mistake by saying those who practice magic with ill intent were witches. They are not. They need their own title. Religious people would hate if we classified them as religious people. They like to have their own identity. "I'm Catholic", "I'm Born Again", "I'm Anglican", "I'm Pentecostal!", "I'm Muslim", "I'm Buddhist".... They all worship god. Regardless the name of god. They fight between them to prove which one is better because they all fall under the same classification. So there are Religious People and Witches as 2 separate classifications. Just as The Religious declare themselves in subclasses and sub those subs into denominations, so should we subclass the practice of magic. But they don't need to sub those subs because it would be (according to the lady in the video) a case of those who follow the code and those who don't. This is my first video on this subject so I don't really know if they need to sub sub. I only have this video for reference. But it sounds so clear to me that Witches quite amazing people who live by a very different reality than The Religious ones. Different is never bad it's just different. So that doesn't mean they are wrong or weird or scary or threatening. They are just different people to the Religious ones. What an amazing video! I'm going to watch some more.

    • @baileyguan7457
      @baileyguan7457 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +S Lidbetter You need to do some research on this lady (Janet Farrar) and the system of her coven, which is Alexandrian coven. Janet Farrar was initiated by Alex Sanders, the founder of Alexandrian Wicca, in 1970. Alex Sanders was once a member of the Gardnerian Coven, which belonged to Gerald Gardner, the founder of modern witchcraft, which is called Wicca. Gerald Gardner adapted many teachings and rituals from Aleister Crowley, for example, the DO WHAT THOU WILL YE HARM NONE was a edited version of Crowley's DO WHAT THOU WILL SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW. Why would Aleister Crowley want to become a Wiccan? the earliest system of modern witchcraft was practically based on his writings, Gerald Gardner even mentioned that Crowley never had interests of modern witchcraft. Alexandrian Wicca is the most ritualistic practice of Wicca there has ever been, a lot of their practices came from medieval grimoires and ritual magic which has no relation to witchcraft. Janet Farrar can represent Wiccans but she can't represent witches, witchcraft is not a religion but one of many magical practices, and you don't have to be religious to practice witchcraft, Wicca has a strong moral code so it forbid its followers to do anything harmful with magic but witchcraft has no saying of anything like this whatsoever, once you master the technique you can do anything with it, including curses and baneful magic, so if you really want to study witchcraft, you need to do more research on the subject Wicca and witchcraft rather than just watching interviews, you'll be surprise how much they contradict sometimes.

    Instant magic, is like asking for an evangelical preacher to do a miracle healing. Even though some preachers claim and show miraculous healings in tent revivals, up on investigation, there would be the " healed people," that were never ill, yet pretended to be ill and faked a healing with the preacher. All to deceive the masses, for converting them into believing. Wicca doesn't deceive.

      @@chuckfriebe843 granted, I last commented on this video 2 years or so ago and a lot can be learned in that time. There are still things with which I do and do not agree with here (ie: Farrar distinguishing witchcraft as a whole between black and white), but at the same time, she and Stewart may just be talking like this to appease these very-Christian people so absorbed in their mindset that all of this just would not make sense otherwise. These are the kind of people who, if they had their hands on obscure occult publications etc, they would not know anything at all save for what they do know. The unknown is scary. Imagine being them in the audience with practitioners in front of them answering questions- they're only going to take and chew what resonates with them in the end.

    They made profit from books alright: books full of Dennis-Wheatleyworld bullshit about "White" vs "Black" Magic, Karmic rewards & punishments, Wiccan "thou-shalt-nots" & a not-too-thinly disguised Christian framework of morality dubbed "Witch Ethics", which designated any use of Magic power for personal gain, empowerment or retribution/vengeance as "Black" Magic. People bought the books only to discover that just about any Ritual beyond picking flowers to rub on one's piles meant Devil Worship.

    The Farrars wrote "What Witches Do", a guide for all aspiring "White" Witches everywhere. Imprisoned in Alexandrianism's Christian-based "Good vs Evil" Universe, the Farrars wrote that many of the women tortured & burnt alive during the Medieval Witch Craze must have been guilty of practising "Black" Magic - by the very fact that they had ended up in torture chambers or on bonfires. One nauseating example of the self-righteous, warped nature of the Christianity-based "White" Witchcraft mindset.

    • @Master_Blackthorne
      @Master_Blackthorne 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the longest time the Church's views on magic was Platonic, allowing for a gray area. Then it switched to Aristotelianism, which saw witchcraft of any kind as bad--just in time for the burning times.

He cut the ritual in half by 9 mths short of the finish . He found it to strict and punishing to complete it .

Or, perhaps the audience members attended because they had read on the subject before and were asking questions to clarify on their skepticism? It is interesting to hear their responses, especially regarding Aleister Crowley's role. It does seem like a PR opportunity.

      Yes and no. I agree and disagree with this statement. There really is no ultimate authority on what is good or bad and context can play a role. At the same time, you're not wrong. The idea that witchcraft is all sunshine and rainbows and that just being positive is the answer while ignoring the negative aspects of life is absolutely silly.
      You have to find balance within both. Negative things happen, bad things happen. Even "evil" things happen if you want to look at it that way, and they still will happen whether you choose to notice them or not. So if Janet thought this, which i'm not sure if she did, I would agree she was misinformed at the time and practicing with that mentality could hinder your magick more than help it.
